Though the leather-writing surface is a little tired is has character, just like the oak which is of a good colour and healthy patina. The knob on cabinet door does not look original otherwise a beautiful piece Drawer is nicely worn on bottom slides with patina wear from use with burl wood accents. Dark oxidation on back wood, which we think is poplar, front dovetail with rear peg construction drawer, all of these are solid indicators of age and authenticity Some blocks were added on bottom underside corners to install caster wheels which will be included with purchase Lock needs key and we do not know if it functions. We estimate that this is from the mid 19th century. The box opens up to create a flat writing space which is covered with gilt trimmed leather and some little compartments. The writing surface lifts up to reveal more storage on both sides. If you know the secret of the box. You can make a panel pop out which reveals two small secret drawers. It is obvious that the upper compartment with the secret release has been reworked at some point in the past, and as a result there are some small pieces of wood and a metal band(spring? that go into that compartment to keep it functioning properly. The stand is an interesting addition to the lap desk. It is open when the desk is not present, and features a little pull out tray on two sides. The desk is made with a wood veneer and brass inlaid hardware. A wonderful antique. Circa 1890's- 1900's, Louis XV style writing table in mildly stripped mahogany veneers, the legs of solid mahogany. There are three drawers to one side, the other side with three faux drawer fronts. There are elaborately cast heavy bronze mounts, the leg corners with lady figureheads. The top has a single piece of black leather having stamped gilt borders. Table measures 2'6" 30-1/2" tall by 5'9" 69" wide by 3'1" 37" deep, the leather 5'1" 61" wide by 2"5" 29" deep. From floor to bottom of center drawer is 23-1/4" tall. Excellent condition: mahogany legs without chips or cracks, veneers all around are complete and original finish. Antique Renaissance Revival parlor table writing desk 1860
This unique parlor table is made of walnut and is in the Renaissance Revival style. It has some Neo Grec influence. The table is 42 inches wide. 24 inches deep and 29 inches tall. It has a brown felt top. There is a drawer in the front that comes out. It is made of dovetail construction. The table has decorative ornamentation along the sides and on the carriage underneath. This piece would have been used in a parlor as a table or possibly as a ladies desk. The piece dates circa 1860. The felt top may be a replacement as it likely originally had a leather top. The drawer is missing an escutcheon on the front. We have a key that can be used to open the drawer but it does not fit properly and will not lock the drawer.

This Auction is for an Antique 19th Century Approximately 1870's Victorian Walnut Kneehole Writing Table Desk- Nice Size Perfect For A Unique Functional Computer Desk. It measures 31 1/4" tall by 43" wide by 28" deep- it has five drawers with what appears to be its original turned wood handles- it has hand dovetailed drawers and is square nailed- the finish is either original or an old refinish- the leather top I believe is an old replacement- this is a chunky solid very well made piece of furniture- it has some minor use wear on the finish. Two of the drawer locks are missing, and the back corner brace came loose and needs to be reglued- other than those flaws it is in very good condition.

Featuring fabulous decorative ormolu mounts, this table is sure to get noticed wherever it is placed. Smothered with exquisite floral marquetry on an ebonised background set into kingwood. This really was thew work of a master craftsman. The marquetry is complimented by the fabulous gilded ormolu mounts which adorn this piece. It is serpentine shaped and finished on all sides so that it can stand freely in the middle of a room. And is offered in excellent original condition. Therefore, we brought it into the shop to hand strip, hand sand, hand stain and applied multiple coats of satin sheen lacquer. We even applied a brand new application of antique red color felt. The hand cut dove tail drawer pulls out with contour corners. The drawer has a maple interior and has a divided section for your pens or articles. The base is gorgeous with multi-turnings, finials, fluted, reeded, applied buttons, burl walnut raised panels and a 2.5” burl walnut border trip across the top. The finish is a medium walnut stain with a satin sheen lacquer. The overall size is 40 inches wide, 26 inches deep and 30 inches high. It is a fantastic looking writing table. It is an English antique that was originally made around 1890 featuring barley twist legs and stretcher. It is hard to believe all of the wonderful carved features in this writing desk. Each of the four sides is meticulously carved to great detail. These carvings are the most prominent feature of ... morethe desk. The next thing your eye is drawn to are the barley twist turned legs and stretcher. Using a stretcher between the legs allows the heavy desk to remain sturdy even after all these years. The table top is finished with a nice black leather that has gold tooling. This leather is not the original desk leather. The front of the desk has two drawers that work easily. Their handles are part of the carvings on the drawer fronts. The fully finished and carved back has two faux drawers so it looks just like the front. This antique writing desk is really in excellent condition. It is sturdy and strong and we did not find any repairs or breaks on the carvings. The black leather is near perfect. The table top around the edges shows some old minor signs of wear(tiny dents here and there as you would expect to see) Otherwise this desk has stood the test of time remarkably well and would go great in a variety of surroundings. This box is from the 1800's. The pre-electricity days. I believe this is Mahogany. Beautiful original finish and dark interior patina. Original brass hinges. Stamped metal wreath and feathers medallion. I'm not sure if this was something added at some point? There are added small nails along the back edge of the top. Antique White Oak Library Table Writing Desk Golden Oak Quarter-Sawn Quarter-Cut
LOCAL PICK-UP ONLY* Up for sale is this beautiful old library table or writing desk made out of quarter-sawn. Or quarter-cut white oak. The wood is cut in such a way to reveal the large flaking pattern found in white oak(Quercus alba) that has been quarter sawn. Once stained, the wood has a rich golden color as seen in the photos. The table measures about 26 inches wide, 42 inches long, and stands about 30 inches tall. There is a drawer on one side and a shelf across the bottom. There is a burn mark along the edge as shown in the 5th photo, but otherwise the table is in good condition for its age. The inside of the drawer seems to have been replaced with some plywood at some point in time. The drawer doesn't slide smoothly, but may be an easy fix.
