Very useable although has marks which would be commensurate with its age and use. The tripod base and table top are carved from oak. With a rich, dark color and patina. Naturalistic, deep floral carving on the legs and rim, with barley-twist central column. All buffed to a natural sheen. Table-top is beautifully inlaid: Dark Squares in Burr walnut and light squares in Maple. Decorative stringing inlay forms the border and further veneer is inlaid around this finishing to meeting the decorative relief carving around the table's edge. Excellent condition: Strong. Well built and in great shape. All surfaces are in excellent condition. Antique 19th. Century English Regency Oak Games Table 1800’s Trick Track Chess This antique English Games Table is in fair condition. Showing signs of age, use, and wear. The table measures 29 1/2 inches tall(74.5cm) x 25 inches long(62cm) x 18 inches wide(43cm) I believe the table to be constructed with Oak wood and has a secondary wood of Mahogany. The removable Chess Board(31cm x 31cm without border) seems to have been striped at some point, removing much of its' original finish. The body of the table shows surface scratches and some abrasions, especially at the corners. The table has a spring hinged side molding that does not latch(see photographs) which would keep the removable Chess Board secure. The Trick Track Felt board is in disrepair, and shows wear as well. The single drawer shows some disrepair as well, missing original hardware, ... moreand has a chips missing on one corner, splits on the fronts, and one Tudor Rose pull is missing its' collar" The removable legs are in fair to good condition, showing normal wear, but one of the support blocks under the table has a split and will need to be glued for better stability. A project undoubtedly, perhaps a good candidate for restoration. Having just been restored by my very experienced restorer(50 years) it is consequently in excellent condition and is ready for immediate use in the home or for retailing in a prestigious showroom or fair. The second thing that strikes you about this table is the colour and patination. The cabinetmaker that made this table chose some very good quality timbers for the job. This has resulted all these years later in a table with a gorgeous soft rich warm colour and patination that can only be attained by walnut of this age and quality. Thirdly are the proportions. The design of this table is just right and the table benefits from having a good balance. Meaning that it“sits” well with a real“presence” Now we know everything on ebay is“fantastic” glorious” superb” brilliant” magnificent” greatest” resplendent” superior” etc etc but when we say this is a very good table we mean it.
