You are bidding on a beautiful antique dining room table from the mid-late 1800's. I believe this is a mahogany dropleaf table from the Empire period(circa 1860) Measures 29" high by 40" long. There is a leaf that hangs on each side each measuring 15 1/4" Each leaf is held up by a wooden swing arm that folds out from the center of the table. Table is on a 20 x 22" pedestal base with metal wheels. When leaves are closed. The top measures 40" x 22 1/4" actually 23 3/4" with the edges of the leaves) or 40" x 52 3/4" when open. The table is in excellent condition with only a small chip on the base near the floor and a small crack underneath the bottom of the pedestal base. It comes with two long drop leaves that are 16 inches long and all original condition. It is truly a period table from the 1860s. The table when it is closed up is 40 inches long. 22 inches deep and 29.5 inches high. When you take the two 16 inches leaves up and flip them up in place it becomes 52 inches deep and 40 inches long. The finish on the table is original believe it or not and shows minor ring marks here and there from plant pots. On the empire diamond column traditional jelly roll footed base with the ogee molded edges on both ends. It has solid mahogany leaves. One side is unbelievably straight given the age and the other side has the typical bow or curl to it where it is warped slightly on the leaf and is very useable. When it is flipped down you will not see it and that is how most people use this type of table. It is in the old original finish and has never had any refinishing done on it. The finish is amazing for the age. There are edge marks of veneer missing that we will touch up. It will cost $285 to have this drop leaf table shipped within our normal shipping zone. BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE WALNUT DROP LEAF DINING TABLE
This is a really elegant. Sturdy, and functional antique walnut drop leaf table with turned legs and beveling along the edges. It is 61" long when both leaves are extended and 40" wide and 28 3/4" high. Quite a heavy piece. There are leg stabilizers(see the last photo) that have been added underneath each leaf to keep the legs from shifting or leaning, though the table is very sturdy. My family has owned this table for at least sixty years and it has seen many family dinners. Discussions, laughter, and sorrows. But I MUST downsize, sadly enough. BALTIMORE, MD C. 1820-35 In the manner of John Needles(Baltimore. 1786-1878) crafted of solid mahogany over reeded legs Item# 120009RUW29 The present example is a very fine solid mahogany full dining table. Capable of seating six people comfortably when it is fully opened. The mahogany leaves are single solid boards with reeding along the edges that mirrors the legs, each hanging on original hand forged iron hinges to easily swing up and down. A flamed mahogany veneer completes the apron of the table. The table has six legs, an expensive feature that was time consuming and reserved for a more affluent client. It allows the table to remain firmly rooted while the leaves are extended, truly making it a fully functional dining table. The legs swing over knuckle joints formed of solid oak. In unison ... morewith the exterior of the table frame, this surrounding what appears to be pine secondary wood making up the inside of the table frame. These thick secondary woods are remarkably strong and allow the leg to remain in nearly untouched condition after nearly 200 years. The table rests over turned double-rings over sharp reeding, to terminate again in double ringlets over tapered feet. This is a very attractive example for collectors of American forms. Crafted in a distinct manner to that of John Needles. Needles is well known as an artisan with significant output in the Baltimore. Maryland area during the height of the American Classical period. Labeled and documented works by the shop of John Needles are typically accompanied by unusually strong and nearly triangular reeding on legs or pillars, typically in tables though also found in large cabinets and sideboards. He was most active in the years of 1810-48, where the majority of his twenty-four surviving documented forms are crafted. The table was made with excellent craftsmanship and is very sturdy. It's 8 Legs are held together with 24 hand-carved mortise and tenon joints. The table measures 29.5" tall. 36" long, and 16.5" wide with the leafs folded down. The leafs hinge up and two pairs of legs swing out to reveal an elliptical table top measuring 47.75" in length, 36" in width. An antique 19th century primitive drop leaf table in walnut with turned legs. It measures approximately 28-3/8" tall and 41-5/8" wide. With the leaves folded down. It is about 20.5" long. Each leaf adds about 15.5" so with both leaves open, you will have about a 51" long table. We believe it is American and we do not know the maker. There are plenty of dings and scratches found commonly on antique furniture, and this piece has a particularly distressed, dry old finish. Pegged construction. This table was obviously completely refinished. It has very nicely executed turned. Tapered and reed carved legs on swivel brass caster wheels. It is made from very select cuts of solid cherry possessing very nice figuring. We believe its origins are New York but we have seen these made throughout Pa. While a question remains on its origins we are certain its a very sound table that a large investment was made in its restoration and refinishing. These specimens are very scarce with our only seeing a handful each year. It is 49 3/4" long with its leaves locked up, 21 1/2" with the leaves down, 39 1/4" wide and stands 29 1/2" tall.
