Being offered for sale is this wonderful American Classic Empire Flame Mahogany Petticoat Pier Table circa 1840. This fine 19th century table measures 36 1/2 in height. 35 1/2 inches wide, 16 1/4 inches in depth(front to back on the top) and weighs approximately 65 pounds. We believe this table to have it’s original finish and has all of the time-worn character that one would expect from of pieces from this era. The lovely large solid mahogany table top provides beautiful display possibilities and rests on a conforming serpentine flamed mahogany apron.A scalloped flame mahogany valance is found beneath the apron just above the original mirror. Substantial flame mahogany scrolled legs with applied roundels at the base connect the lovely large table top to the stepped flame mahogany base which rests on scroll carved legs with the original casters ... moreintact on all four feet. Additional display opportunity is found on the square plateau located in front of the original mirror just above the elegant stepped base. This 19th century pier/petticoat table does have its original mirror which shows some silver loss spots and cloudiness as commonly seen in mirrors from this period. The top surface does show wear to the finish and surface marks and scratches from years of use. The base sides do have some minor veneer chipping nothing major in my opinion but just thought I would mention it. These 19th century tables were referred to as Petticoat Tables because the ladies would use the mirror to check the hem of their dresses to make sure that their petticoats were not being exposed. The classical lines of this table make it a piece that is easily incorporated into any decor and would be a wonderful foyer/ hall table. In the pics you may notice that the center leg is not in the center of the table. It will move to the center. I didn't want to force it across the uneven ground. The top is over two leaves set on a foliate carved standard. Raised on four leaf carved legs ending in the New York style feet, set on steel casters. The legs and the feet are in excellent condition. Here's a stunning and very rare piece of American antique furniture: an American Classical Empire Federal Period Mahogany"Rent" or Center table. Probably from Philadelphia, circa 1825. It stands on three hairy paw feet on casters, on three carved legs, with a highly carved center standard leading up to an octagonal top with a sunburst type alternating flame mahogany inlay, with four real drawers and four faux drawers. Drawers have their original turned mahogany knobs. The entire top turns. Restored several years back but is still an antique so there a few tiny marks and flaw as you'd expect with a true antique. It is styled after the Empire period This is a 16 sided(hexadecagon) table mounted on a graduated. Octagonal pedestal. The table top is solid cherry wood. The top has a 16 piece Bird’s-eye Maple apron that is 2 ¾ inches in depth. The pedestal is mounted on a 4 sided. Serpentine curved platform The pedestal. Platform and scrolled feet are covered with a flame mahogany veneer with a rich surface patina. The table was at some time. Probably in the 1950’s, cut down to coffee table height. Antique American Empire Large Game Table Harp Base Mahogany (?) Swivel Top
PLEASE NOTE: This is available as local pickup only(in Warwick. NY) I do not have the experience to ship such an item as this. Presenting a gorgeous. Large, 19th century American Empire swivel top game table on a lyre(or harp) base, in lovely antique condition. The table is solid and sturdy. I believe the wood is mahogany, and the finish to be original. The table top is hinged so that it can be lifted, folded back and swiveled to make a full-square table, albeit with scalloped edges. Another way these tables are displayed is with the the top opened 90 degrees and the back half up against the wall; alternatively, the table can of course be left closed, also against the wall. When opened. It shows its true Empire period beauty, with a lovely sheen. The finish does show age but it is an antique and the patina could be respected as such. When ... moreclosed. It could be argued that the part of the top that then shows could be refinished, although there are no cracks or gouges, just the age of its finish showing, more so than the fully opened top. It seems this table was generally displayed with the top closed, so the wood on the inside(which, when opened, would be the topside) has been protected. The table appears to be all original and with only the small imperfections to be expected in almost any genuine antique furniture. The most egregious flaw is the crack at the bottom of the harp base(see photo) The table measures: 28-1/2" high 37" to 37-1/2" wide(considering scallop edge) 18-3/8" to 18-5/8" considering scallop edge) closed) Approximately 37" square when opened.
