Up for bid are 2 S mall, R ound“ Drip by Drop” Apothecary bottle s The tops are ground to fit like a glove. They have two grooves and a beak for dropping liquid. On the neck of bottle there are two grooves– one for liquid and one for air. When grooves on the stopper meet the grooves on the neck. Liquid can be dropped. IT WORKS AMAZINGLY WELL! If stopper is turned and grooves don't match protrudes bottle is closed(locked) and liquid can not be dropped. The shape and type would allow for a tiny drop to be poured out of the bottle without removing the cap. The clear bottle is 3 ½ inches tall. It is in very nice condition. It stands 14.5" tall and 6" in diameter at the base. It will hold 128 liquid ounces(or 2 gallons) What has come to be a decorative item. The technique of wrapping the wine bottles in wicker actually came from necessity because early versions of wine bottles produced in Italy were quite fragile and thus wrapped in straw, wicker or leather baskets to protect them during shipping. There is a slightly drippy applied top and a smooth base. This amber color has an orangish tint to it. Nice early blown open pontiled decanter with applied rings. The glass is very clear with only a couple small superficial scratches. Very light and not long. The rings on the neck are typical for applied glass. Have lines, but are not cracked. No chips, cracks, or repairs that I can see. I do not see a water line or residue. The decanter has a rough pontil scar in the center of the base. Two strips or rings of glass were added to the neck and carefully tooled and attached and there is a broad. Well rounded rim, it is ground on the inner neck, with the stopper fitted. Nice early decanter that I am told is attributed to Boston and Sandwich Glass. Circa 1820s-40s. Condition; very good except for one open air bubble on top rim. SIZE: decanter alone stands 9-3/4 inches tall with the stopper in place. Blown Flint Glass 3 Ring Pint Decanter Bottle Thomas Cains Boston Sandwich NEGC
This listing is for a rare antique footed pint decanter with its original ground-in waffle sunburst pattern pressed glass stopper. It has a ground and polished pontil. And good base wear. The stopper has a very nice clean snap-off at the bottom, and the"grated" or"waffle" center pattern has horizontal lines on one side, and vertical lines on the other. It is relatively crudely pressed, and what looks like an inch of loss to the one edge is actually due to an incompletely filled mold- it does have a small chip on this rough edge, and a tiny nick a bit lower(both probably original, due to the rough mold seam) The bottle itself is amazing, and has only a few light surface scratches. The glass is incredibly clear, and is nearly free of bubbles or inclusions. It measures 9.1" to the top of the stopper, and 7.2" to ... morethe top of the rim.
