Stoneware 3 Gallon Cream Pot B.C. Milburn Alexandria Virginia Pottery 1840s
This is a BC Milburn Cream Pot# 3 dating between 1847-1867 from Alexandria. VA. It is a beautiful piece with cobalt floral decoration, slip and applied tab handles. The trailed flowering plant design bears 2 blossoms. Multiple leaves and a central blooming bud. Reverse decorated with 2 blossoms and multiple leaves, shorter stem. Both slip-trailed flowers extend from handle to handle. This piece is 8" in diameter. Slightly larger in center and 14-1/2" tall. There are some cracks in the bottom(3rd from last picture) And a couple of chips on the bottom(last 2 picture) and a chip on the handle. Beautiful piece though and they are hard to come by! In 1822 John Swann at ... moreage 33 hired BC Milburn when he was 17 at the Wilkes Street pottery. John Swann did not last in business through bad debts and was out by 1825. The next time we can place BC Milburn at the Wilkes Street pottery is in 1833 when he leased it from Hugh Smith. In 1841 he purchased the Wilkes Street Pottery from Hugh Smith. The ran the pottery business strong until the approach of the Civil War in 1861. BC Milburn had 3 sons that were also in the pottery trade Joseph. Steven, and William. BC Milburn died in 1867. While at the Wilkes Street Pottery BC Milburn produced wares for merchants Hugh Smith, Hugh Charles Smith, and JP Smith… and it was only after Hugh and Hugh Charles’ death that he let the information out that he had produced wares for rival merchant EJ Miller. Vintage Shaby Chic 1 Gallon Crock - Has A Couple of Hairline Cracks
Welcome! Up for consideration today is a Vintage 1 Gallon Crock that has some damage. This crock was a basement find as I have been slowly going through my childhood home and clearing items from various places where it has accumulated over the years. This crock along with another one I recently listed were both sitting in the dark in a long forgotten corner- I have cleaned them up and having no use for them(I have my own crocks) I am putting them up. This crock has two hairline cracks that start at the rim and some minor chipping at the bottom- I do not know if this crock would hold liquids as I have not tried it other than to wash it out. Another interesting and unique feature of this crock is the appearance of the glaze on the outside- I would almost hazard to say that it is crazing that occurred when the glaze was put on the crock however ... moremany years ago it was made- What is unique about the crazing is it makes the crock look like it is"shabby chic" Yet it is still very much primitive looking. Measurements of the crock are: Approximately 7 inches tall and almost 8 inches in diameter across the top. this is a super nice vintage crock pitcher. It is a green color as shown in the second picture, my wife didnt get the light rigne and some of them look yellow but it is green. it has some stress cracks in it from the age and use, has one smalll tiny chip on the upper left corner of the pour spout. this is a super nice collector item and would be a plus to anyones collection

There is a spider crack on each crock/dish on the inside bottom and they do not appear to go through to the outside.There is a spider crack on one of them that goes down the side and about an inch along the bottom. And it does go through to the outside. I put water in it to see if it would leak. It does have a slow leak. So if you were to plan on purchasing them for a dog or cats dish, that one would be good to put it's dry food in that one. And water in the other one. Stoneware Jar APPLEBY& HELME This antique stoneware jar comes from the snuff manufacturers Appleby& Helme. Who operated out of Helmetta, New Jersey in the 1860s-1870's. The jar is 8 inches tall, 7 inches across at the bottom, and with an opening of 4 inches across at the top. The jar has the following impressed near the upper rim: APPLEBY& HELME? WATRE(sic) ST. S.E. COR. PINE The jar is in fair condition. There are chips and fine cracks. But the jar is still structurally sound and very attractive. It is a wonderful display piece. There is a big chip on the outside of the upper rim with a corresponding smaller chip inside the rim. There is another small chip about a third of the way around the rim from the others. There is a spot around the bottom edge where the glaze was thin or missed completely during firing and is discolored ... morenow with a small chip. There is a 3 inch long fine hairline crack from the rim down through the printed logo. There is a 1 inch fine hairline crack on the bottom edge. Antique Hamilton & Jones Greensboro Pa 1 gal Crock Stoneware Decorated 19thC VTG
Up for auction is this 1 gallon stoneware crock made by Hamilton& Jones Greensboro Pennsylvania in the mid to late 1800s. It is a putty color stoneware with a clean rich color inside. It is 9 1/2 inches tall. 5 3/4 inches across the top and 6 1/4 inches across the bottom. There is a slight hairline that starts at the rim and is hard to see, starts at top and is 2 1/2 inches long and is inside also. The other is what appears to be a glaze stress line on the back of the crock. As I have tried to show you in last two pics, this hairline or stress fracture starts 2- 3 inches from the top and spiders down like a lightening bolt, as you can see in last two photos, it is not inside the crock. It does reach to approx 2 inches from the bottom of the crock near where there is a chunk chip out of the bottom. Overall this crock is a great piece. ... moreThese imperfections are not noticable. I didn't even see what Im calling a stress fracture to the glaze until just now. I list all imperfections because I want you to know what you are getting. This auction is for a Fantastic Antique Robin's Egg Blue Salt Glaze Butter Crock with its original lid. The crock has a neat block shaped pattern around the top and bottom and is beautifully colored in a Soft Blue Salt Glaze. The crock has two side holes for a handle. Both the lid and the crock are in very good condition. Especially considering their age. There are no chips or cracks. Which is rare for crockery of this era. There are several condition issues from th e manufacturing process. Such as glaze drips and roughness around the edges. There is also a firing line around the lid handle(see last photo) It is not a crack as it doesn't go through to the other side. Up for consideration is this Antique Garden City Pottery Number 12 San Jose. California Crock. Information can be obtained from"Potteries of California" No it isn't in mint condition but it will still pickle a very large batch of olives or cucumbers. Provenance information; this crock came from the same house in San Jose that the windows that may or may not be listed came out of. The home was turn of the century. The crock is in fair'as found' condition. There are chips around the top rim(see photos) but there are no cracks that we can find. Now this is something you just don't see everyday! This is an unopened pottery crock of Richelieu Brand English Style Brandied Plum Pudding. Manufactured by Sprague Warner& Co. sometime prior to 1942. Sprague Warner was a large Chicago foodstuff provider from 1909- 1942. In 1942 they were bought out. Still has the original wax seal in great condition. The original labels, including the instruction label are in excellent condition also. Lovely glossy turquoise green pottery crock and lid with a floral motif manufactured by USA Potteries, 1741. Measures 4"H x 4.25" at the widest. Although this item could date anywhere in the 1909- 1942 date range. My educated guess is that it is from the 1920s' 1930's, based on label style and crock color& style. Very unusual! Excellent condition. Free of use wear and damage. Such ... moreas chips, cracks, nicks, or scratching. There is some crazing which is shown. The glaze is smooth and glossy. Up for bid is an old Salt Glazed. Stoneware, Canning Jar, Crock. PATENTED FEB.11. 1896 The crock measures 5- 3/8" inches tall and the base is 4-7/8" inches in diameter. Due to age and use there are some imperfections. There is a good sized chip on the outside, top, edge(picture 5) chip with a hairline crack top edge(pictures 6) and a small chip on the inside edge(picture 7) There are also a hairline crack in the body of the crock(picture 3) and a small chip where the handle inserts(picture 4) The crock also has some crazing. SALT GLAZE HEINZ VASE - WESTERWALD POTTERY
This salt glaze. Wheel-thrown, kiln fired vase was made by Westerwald Pottery in Scenery Hill, PA. It measures approximately 7-1/2" high and 4-1/4" in diameter at the base. It flares out around the middle to approximately 6" in diameter. I believe it was made in 1993. Although it is dated on the bottom it is difficult for me to read(see photos) It is also stamped with a potter's mark on the back side and signed by the potter on the bottom. It's never been used so it is in"out of the box" condition. I did notice a small pock mark on the right side of the front of the vase on the stem.
