Montgomery County Millstone
Montgomery County Virginia in the 19th and early 20th centuries was one of the primary sources for millstones in America. The millstone shown here is typical of those quarried on Brush Mountain with an aggregate of tiny quartz pebbles which reported gave it great strength and durability. I have read that these stones were all shaped with hand tools and not with machinery. The diameter and thickness of this stone can be seen in the photos with the adjacent ruler. The stone appears to be in excellent condition. I have not weighed the stone but it is quite heavy though I have been able to roll it from one location in our garden to another.

Victorian Gingerbread Spandrel, 5' x 20"
This is a beautiful old Victorian gingerbread spandrel that measures 5' across and 20" long. There are some glue spots on the back side where it has been repaired(see photos) But this is easily covered with gel stain or paint. One of the spindles appears to be darker(see photo) This piece has been stripped and is ready to paint or stain. Overall, it's in good shape.

It most likely came from a boat or a building where space was at a premium and access between level/floors had to be kept to a minimum. The staircase os made of cast iron and has ten steps with wood treads. In addition to the center pole, there are ten vertical supports each with a gilt metal ball finial. The staircase measures overall 85-1/2"h with a maximum diameter of 32-1/4" Each step measures 16-1/4"w with an outside depth of 9-1/4" tapering to an inside depth of 1-1/8" The piece can still be used for its originally intended purpose. BALTIMORE W. P. B. CO. BLOCK late 1890's to 1920's era Recovered from downtown TAMPA FLORIDA on Old Water Street before they built the Tampa Bay Times Forum Own a part of Tampa's history! Great overall condition for age. Only one small chip on the top and a small chip on the side. All 8 corners still have there edge(see photos) This block is in un-warn condition. Because back in the 1890's the city of Tampa knew the correct way to lay these blocks down, on there side with the writing not facing up. This practice has left this old paver in great condition. see photo#11 for example) Of all the southern states in America. Florida by far had and still has the greatest concentration of historic brick streets, Mainly because of our sandy soil. Unfortunately most streets have been paved over or removed. Downtown Tampa though still ... morehas miles of these streets and there are over 15 different paver companies used here. see photo#10, it was taken in 1906 on Florida Avenue& photo#12 taken in Hyde Park) This Baltimore block is by far the most abundant. Like stated above, Tampa originally laid these blocks the correct way, but that was only early on and is seen only on Tampa's oldest streets in downtown. I figure the city could have stretched there block supply further by laying them with there writing faced up and they did. Except for downtown Tampa most other historic brick streets in Florida were laid face up. Ever wonder what those raised circles of lines were for? Writing face is in great un-warn conditon with only 2 small chips on top. The lower corner has a corner piece missing(see photo#3) The bottom side has been warn down by decades of traffic. This paver was laid down with the writing side facing down and was filled with tar(see photo#8 taken on 7th Avenue in Ybor City) This has protected the writing face. There is still tar present on the sides. This paver displays very well! It has a salt glaze that is only shinny in the middle which gives it a 2 shade effect. Very unique looking! Writing side has 3 chips missing and oth bottom side has some smaller chips. no wear. Displays well! Most big cities in Florida had used Southern Clay pavers for there streets. it is a common brick but most were of the other type. Not this type. I call these"inverted" See the diamond is indented into the brick apposed to the more common ones that were protruding out of the brick. This type of inverted paver was used exclusively in Dade City Fla and was the most common type in Sanford. You won't find many of these outside of those 2 towns. A scarce brick indeed! Antique Expanding Metal Chimney Scraper Tool not a Brush
Vintage chimney cleaner tool affixed to a rope. You drop it down the chimney. And the resistance and weight acts to expand it as you pull up, so it rakes the walls clean. Looks like it was not used very much, still in very good condition and complete. Gets into the square corners much better than a brush I would think, but this belongs more in a museum. The square plate you see near the bottom slides up to expand the cage to fit the inside of the chimney perfectly. Very clever design. I had never seen one like it before, but instantly knew what it was for. Very neat architectural piece with an unusual look. No markings on it that I can find. Length is 2 feet. The Magnolia Company bought out the Corsicana Brick Company. The Magnolia Company built its new headquarters in downtown Dallas using bricks from the Corsicana location.
