Vintage Roseville Spongeware Glazed Crock Cover or Bowl Lid. It measures 8 inches in diameter and approx 1 inch thick. The inside unglazed rings are slightly different measurements of 6 1/4 inches on one side and 6 1/2 inches on the other side(perhaps to universally fit different crocks) This is an an oldie. But goodie if you need it for your old crock. There are a few extremely hard to see shallow fleabites on the edges, yet they can be felt. No cracks, but I can detect some very, very fine crazing if the light shines on it just right. This is a stoneware American pottery bottle from the California gold mining days. Two color glazed jug with Mercury blue stamp and a label from Ballard's. By Quicksilver Products, Inc. San Francisco/Los Angeles. Mercury was used to separate gold from the raw ore in the mine. Mercury was responsible for illness and death as a poison to miners and it's usage was stopped early on. An early salt-glazed Connecticut Crock or Cream Pot with cobalt accents. Ca.1850. Fine Semi-Ovoid form with applied lug handles and Albany Slip interior glaze; 2Gal. capacity. Both handles have accents on the terminals. The impressed stamp is very crisp and cobalt-washed, reading: M.C. WEBSTER& SON, HARTFORD. This is the mark of Mack and Charles Webster; they ran this Front Street pottery 1840-1857. Incidentally, when Mack died in 1857, Charles teamed up with the well-known New York potter, Israel Seymour(Webster& Seymour) There is a tight. T-shape hairline near the base that extends vertically, and a shallow chip on the rim; otherwise excellent- completely sound and rings true. It has subtle ribbing the whole length of jug and varying colors of cobalt blues and some brown as well. Found in early homestead in Putnum county Virginia. Jug is peppered throughout and has blue rings around top and bottom. Near mint condition no chips. Cracks, hairlines or repairs. measures 14" tall 8" at widest point and 5" across bottom and holds 2 gallons. Has manufacturers hole near bottom(see pic) and was probably corked. A true antique crock. I'm selling the old pottery piece for my friend. She's 92& asked me to list it. The crock came from her home place. In Bybee, Tn. where she was born& raised. She moved from the family farm in 1960. She remembers the crock as a small child. She was born in 1920 so this crock is definitely an antique. Great condition. No chips. A couple very light. Glaze hairline cracks that you need extra light to see& doesn't take away or cause any issues. The stoneware crock is 6" tall& 5.75" across the top. Two tone or two shades of brown. For your consideration is a hand-turned salt glaze 3 gallon crock made by North Star Stoneware Company. This crock is unmarked. But I have been led to believe that stoneware pieces with upturned hand drawn leaves were manufactured by North Star Stoneware Company. This company was located in Red Wing. Minnesota and existed from 1892 to 1896. The 3 and the upturned leaf are hand drawn by the slip cup method and are in black. This crock has an Albany slip glaze on the interior. This crock has the"ear" type handles. This crock is approximately 10 1/4" tall and the bottom is approximately 9 5/8" in diameter. This crock has one minor chip on the interior of the rim; this chip is approximately 1/2 of an inch wide and less than 3/8 of an inch tall; this chip is approximately halfway between the side and the back. Almost directly ... moreabove the 3 is a crack approximately 7/8 of an inch long; this crack is obvious on the interior. But cannot be seen or felt on the exterior. Antique Stoneware: Early Redware Measure w/ Manganese, New England, ca.1830, NR
A scarce New England Redware Measure with a capacity of 1-Cup. Ca.1830, perhaps earlier. Features a Lead-Manganese Glaze inside and out, pinched pouring spout, and applied strap handle. There is a tight crack about 1.5" to the left of the spout that runs into the base; and age-appropriate wear on the rim and spout. I have only seen a handful of these measures over the years; all having damage and/or repairs. See photos for details and close-ups. Measures approximately 4-3/4"W x 2-1/4"H overall. The base and rim diameters are 3" and 4" respectively. A rare addition to complement your early Redware collection. Offered with No Reserve. Up for your consideration is this wonderful Alberta Potteries Ltd. 2 gallon stoneware crock. The maker's mark dates this to the original Alberta Potteries which was in business from 1935 to 1938, in Redcliff, Alberta. Alberta Potteries was Medalta's only competition at that time. This 2 gallon crock stands 10 1/2 inches tall and is 9 7/8 inches across the rim. The only issue I noticed is a 1 1/2 inch area of crazing on the rim. Of course there are imperfections from the maker of this crock, such ... moreas air bubbles in the glaze, a few areas where the glaze is missing- mostly along the top and bottom rims and inconsistencies in the glaze, including drips. There is a mis-placed piece of clay on the inside bottom that was glazed over. Of course these imperfections are what gives this crock it's appeal. I think there is a signature on the bottom, but I am not able to make it out. Please be sure to inspect all the pictures for condition before buying. As always. This special crock has the well known crown. We believe this crock may be from ca. 1915 to 1925. Or approximately 5 years after the Ransbottom merger. The Ransbottom Brothers Pottery Co. was founded by Frank Ransbottom and has been in operation since 1900 in Roseville, Ohio. Frank learned the potters art from his father Alfred, who operated the Bluebird Potteries on farms in Perry and Muskingum Counties, Ohio during the late 1800s. Frank and his brothers purchased the Oval Ware and Brick Company in autumn of 1900, beginning production early in 1901. Up for auction is a vintage stoneware crock. This is a two-toned crock with a brown and cream finish with a beige stripe through the middle. No chips or cracks on this one other than original surface imperfections from the glazing process. Piece has great character and a nice patina on it. Antique Blue White Salt Glaze Stoneware Yellow Ware Daisy Trellis Butter Crock
As identified in the Collector's Encyclopedia of Salt Glaze Stoneware. This auction is for a common pattern Daisy And Trellis Butter Holder. It measures 6" wide by 4.75 tall. Mint value $125- $175. There are six large daisies on a close trellis background. This is missing a lid and a bail which it held at one time. Bail holes for this mold were not made to go through to the interior. There is one fine hairline crack on the interior of bail hole placement that extends from top down approx 2.75" it is not visible on outside surface. The opposite bail hole has an old chip on the ear approx 1/2" long. Please refer to pics as details of description of condition and ask any questions before bidding.
