To the left of the desk is a tall shelf area with four adjustable shelves for storage or acting as a bookcase again having fine ornate wood carving over the glass door front. The ornate carvings on the front of the fold-down desk and upper glass door appear Victorian. Work is needed for refinishing this piece to bring it back to its original beauty. Some wooden back pieces shown in front. Need to be fixed to the back of the desk area and one more missing piece to make the back complete. Each glass column is wrapped with thin round wood rods, giving each column the appearance of fasces lictoriae. Between each column are five(5) inwardly bowed, concave doors with a geometric pattern on each door front. The cabinet doors have no visible hardware; door pulls are carved into a curved recess on both sides of each door. Two outer doors open to reveal three(3) finely crafted sliding drawers, with recessed, carved circular knobs. Giuseppe Terragni is widely considered one of the greatest Italian architects of the twentieth century. He was an original founder of the"Gruppo 7" in Italy in 1926. An Italian Rationalist design movement which sought to integrate concept, structure, and symbolism into form that embodied the character of necessity, with no superfluous ornamentation or decoration, and perfect proportions revealing the structural skeleton.
