Wooden Eagle Pediments Pair of 2 Antique Architectural Federal Era Hand Carved
For your Early American Eagle collection or architectural restoration project we have a Pair of Two Wooden Eagle Pediments Antique Architectural Federal Era Birds that are Hand Carved in the early 1800's. These were recently mounted on iron stands for display. Using the original holes which go through from the top to the bottom in two places on each pair to host the iron rods that they are now fixed onto. Fairly substantial in size, each of these facing eagles actually measures 10" high x 13 1/2" wide x 1 1/4" deep(thick) and are ready for display on these stands that bring them up to 13" tall. Together they weigh 8 pounds 3.5 ounces including the iron stand. They show their age from alligatored varnish and a deepened patina to the wood. These look like they may have been painted over at one time. And have been dry ... morescraped to remove the paint. They have age cracks to the wood, including one that goes straight through the neck of one bird, yet have retained their aesthetic historic value and decorative appeal. The wood these are carved from is a very dense, hard wood. Hand carved eagle figures are still considered the epitome of collectible American folk art pieces and are generally associated with the Federal style era in architectural design. Which is a period that ranges from 1780 to 1830, appearing most commonly on frames, furniture, building ornamentation, and as motifs throughout the making of textiles and American advertising ephemera. To continue, Federal-style architecture is the name for the classic architecture built in North America between c. 1780 and 1830. And particularly from 1785 to 1815. This style shares its name with its era, the Federal Period. The name Federal style is also used in association with furniture design in the United States of the same time period. And eagles are always associated with this style. The Federal style also broadly corresponds to the middle-class classicism of Biedermeier style in the German-speaking lands. This is recently salvaged cast iron Finial that stood on the top of a Philadelphia Building back in the 1890's. This cast iron piece has a few missing pieces. But overall a great garden display piece of early Americana Architecture! The size is 29 1/2" long and about 8" at the widest part. The bottom mounting piece is strong and present. Antique Architectural Salvage Victorian Wooden French pediment 46 1/2 inches
This beautiful French architectural woodenware is the perfect size to hang over a door to embellish an entrance way. Also pretty to use similar to a bed crown by handing above the bed and drape sheers or curtains from behind. Architectural Salvage Eastlake Pediment Carved /Appliqued Oak Vintage Decorative
This is an Eastlake-style pediment and my best guess is that it's off a dresser or a mirror. It is carved and the arch is an applique. The oak has no stain or varnish left on it and is quite lovely in that it's survived to find a new use as a decorative wall hanging. It is 22" long. 7" high and a little more than an inch thick.

Antique French Overdoor wall panel distressed iron architectural salvage
This antique over door came from a local estate. It is a wonderfully crafted iron panel with round curves and a rounded top. The piece has age: it has oxidation on most of the parts as part of its charm. It looks very good over a large entry as a décor by itself. It appears to be made of cast iron and is dark green in color with a spray of pink, blue, and white flowers across the top. It has rust spots in several areas across the front and back which truly add to the vintage, shabby-chic" style. It is approximately 7 inches high, 6 inches wide at longest point, and 1/2 inch thick across at the base. There are two holes close to the top where you can put screws or nails if you want to hang it on a wall. VINTAGE(circa 1890-1900) GOTHIC STYLE CHANCEL SCREEN: This is a beautifully carved section of a heavy oak Church chancel screen. The piece is made up of a wide base rail. With a vertical section at each end, that has been joined with a dentiled top sub-rail section. The Gothic style shaping and carving is of high quality. It is very easy to see that the chancel screen was built with great care and high levels of workmanship(please note that the joints between the top section and vertical balustrade end sections did not originally match.These joints were purposely left with shims) Each side of the piece is similar in construction and finish. The heavy wide bottom rail has three hand carved oak leaf bosses on each side of the piece. The wood used to make this screen was very heavy and dense'old world' oak. OK. Folks, this is a once in a lifetime yummy yummy element. I imagine it was the top of something- a door opening perhaps? Someone has rigged a wire at the back for hanging- OK, that's an obvious option. In the 2nd picture, I flipped it around upside down. Imagine it as the underside of a shelf, shallow or as deep as you like. It could be in an entryway, hung high, deep enough for setting several hats and with a hook or 2 for hanging coats. Hang it lower with a mirror mounted over it and you have an entry table. VERY upscale hung high in a bath for freshly folded towels. In a kitchen with grand hunks of copper pans or pottery or a stack of coffeetable cookbooks. I'd keep it myself, but I can add no more in this downscaled little place. Don't overlook the possibility of a shallow shelf with a great painting as a leaner. Soooo ... moreeasy to change your artwork when the shelf establishes the line. Primitive Antique Door Panel Insert Architectural Salvage St. Matthew Chicago Ooooh. Got very lucky this week at one of my favorite flea markets. I have just about everything, from the very old and primitive to the very unique with some fabulous folk art thrown in too! I’ll be listing all week, so keep checking back! loveLoveLOVE this one- and it's brother. Which I will be listing next. Last year, I purchased one of these panels from an elderly gentleman who goes to the flea market every once in a while, in an attempt to clean out a garage that he says is packed. I have not seen him since my last purchase(and sold the other one) so was thrilled when I stumbled upon him again last week, and bought both of the pieces that he brought. This listing is for the piece that you see in my photos(one piece) and I will be listing the other one next ... moreso be sure to check that one out, too. According to what the man told me, he and his brother were in the door business- they sold new, and also reclaimed doors. He told me that this panel came from a door that was removed during a remodeling of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Chicago on 21st. St. He said that he really wanted the doors, but they were too big for him to be able to store, so what he did was remove the panels from the inserts, used some, and has kept the rest for years. Now, I found the church's website, but could not find a date that it was built. I'm guessing in the mid to later mid 1800s, as the church's address is 2108 W. 21st, and I also found the school which is 2101-2107 21st. I did find a date for the building of the school, which was 1882. This is a beautiful, rustic, primitive solid wood panel that has hand carved detail and a beautiful worn rusty-brown painted finish. The carving in the center looks like a daisy or flower to me- see what you think. You can see the unpainted, 3/4" perimeter of the panel where it used to fit in the door- the wood have a very dark patina and shows lots of wear. The back is not finished- I'm assuming

I have had this for decades and hard times force me to sell very reluctantly as I know this is such a rare find. I was told by the widow that I bought it from. Which was in her garden at the time.that her husband brought it down from atop an old historic Chicago hotels very detailed front archway facade entrance during a remodeling. Sometime within the 1940's-60's. I don't know the actual production date of manufacture although there are many markings on it which might aid someone in narrowing down the artisans plant or kiln factory. They had removed each section.Piece by piece and he managed to talk his foreman into letting him place it into the back of his late 40's sedan car. It is loaded with Eastlake Spoon Carvings. Brackets, corbels and ornate moldings. It is a great decor item. It measures 46 inches wide overall. 43.25 without the end moldings. It is 15.5 inches tall and 3 inches thick. Overall it is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning but should clean up nicely.
