GLOVEBOXES& HIDDEN SLIPPER DRAWER We are delighted to offer this high quality late Federal period marble top dresser with mirror on turned& carved columns with gloveboxes and hidden slipper drawer in a super thick bookmatched radiating flame mahogany veneers. It stands on four wonderfully made vasal formed legs with original wooden caster wheels. This is a wonderfully rugged& heartly built super early 19th Century chest that has been well cared for and professionally maintained from the furniture collection a fine Connecticut estate. We attribute it to one of four New York City cabinet making shops circa 1827. The glove boxes have their working locks and keys. Each original lock is hand mortised into the drawers they came on. We did shoot a full set but they don't look anything close to how truly nice this is. It has all its original chamfered drawer panels and frame work. It has had split pine panel professionally repaired about 25 years ago along with a new back leg block. This estate had its own handyman with a great shop. He loved and cared for a super collection of 40 pieces of New York City 1820-1830 Federal furniture over the last 40 Years. This dresser is 42" long. 21" wide(deep) 40 1/4 tall at the marble top work surface, 45 tall at the gloveboxes and 72 1/2" tall at the top of the mirrors incredible frame. The mirror has its original finely casted thumb screw pins that finely thread into inset brass channels on the mirror's frame. It has many features consistent with his craftsmanship and style.He was regarded as one of the finest cabinetmakers in the United States. It is quite remarkable considering the state of our country at the time regarding slavery.He was African American, also known as a free man of color by historians.To be such successful entrepreneur and distinguished cabinetmaker was very rare, considering all of the societal norms at the time. Mr. Day served some of the wealthiest clients including two governors of North Carolina.Word spread quickly about his amazing craftsmanship and quality. This 7 drawer chest has fantastic grains throughout.The entire chest was hand made, no doubt by an early American craftsman. A rare feature is the style of the curved drawer front of the 2 upper drawers on the lower chest(photo) It features incredible precise hand cut dovetail joinery on all 4 corners of each drawer. The drawers also feature hand planed(chamfered) drawer bottoms, with no evidence of machine tooling.The drawers have solid brass inlaid keyhole escutcheons. Here we have a very Rare Empire Dresser for your consideration. This is a very fine Wishbone Mirrored Dresser with side wig curio cabinets. These dressers have always been the Cadilac of Empire Dressers. But this one is one of the finest we have ever seen. The burled or Flame Mahogany is fantastic. The colors are just beautiful. We do not have the exact history. But the party we bought the dresser from, told us that this dresser was saved in Katrina from the Huricane in New Orleans. It was transported north and sold to raise money for the people who once owned it there. We bought it from the next party who purchased it. The dresser is of such fine quality, and has all original parts. The only thing it may need is some new screws in the back when the wig cabinets mount. At the moment it is all assembled and they were not needed. But when the ... moredresser comes to its new home, that is one addition we would suggest is new screws in the back area. The wood on every side is pristine on this piece. The only thing you would find is normal wear from a dresser of such a grand age. All that is needed is a nice polish and this piece is ready to set up and be displayed with pride. The dresser is 77" tall by 43" wide by 21" deep. The mirror attaches on each curio side with wooden screws and original knobs. The drawer fronts have the carving at the top and bottoms and the matched grain of the wood is outstanding. This piece could be by the famous cabinet maker Thomas Day. As even the sides of the dresser have fantastic matched graining. The hand made dove tails and brass locks, are all top notch and fine quality. The marble top inset is beautiful thick Italian Marble with nice grain and detail. There are no chips, nor cracks on the marble. It could use a polish from a marble professional. But the patina and wear only adds charactor to the piece. layaway available on any of my listings should anyone have an interest in that. up for auction is the nicest empire vanity i have seen in all the years i have been messing with antiques. i bought this not long ago and have it in my dining room as there is no where else to put it in my 20 room house. i have another one in a bedroom upstairs that i will list shortly. hopefully it will sell and not this one as i want to actually keep this one. anyway. I have seen a dozen or so of these, but none this nice. it is serpentine, heavily carved mirror harp, pedestal, feet and wings, along with carved roping surrounding the vanity top. the mirror shows some fog, which does not bother me, i can have that corrected for about 100.00 should someone want that accomplished. it is free from damage or repairs as far as i can ascertain. i think the knobs on ... morethe two serpentine drawers are original as well. this is a wonderful empire piece made around 1860 or so i think out of the most wonderful flame mahogany as you will find. the piece has wonderful patina and is gorgeous. the pictures do not do it justice. it stands 49.5 to the top of the mirror, it is about 30 inches to the vanity top and 22 inches deep at the widest point of the serpentine top. it is 44 inches wide at the back of the top and 38 inches wide at the front of the top. shipping will be the buyers responsibility. you may arrange a carrier, or i will do it for you, or you may pick it up at my home. if the carrier requires a crate, i will build it for the cost of the material and will not charge any labor. the material will cost about 50.00 for the crate, if required. i need to sell one of these vanities, don't have room for both. i am starting this at probably all it is worth, but if you want the best, this is for you! i bought it because it was the nicest one i have seen in years and years. i doubt you can find another one like it, and if so, it will be expensive. i will be glad to answer any questions or supply other pictures upon request. good luck

This is a really wonderful piece-solid cherry on top and sides. With flame mahogany veneer on the drawers, thick brass circular hardware(typifying the Federal period) and really great carvings at the bottom, finishing off with scrolled feet. There is minor nicking to the veneer. Other than that, it is in amazing condition. The drawers are smooth and the wood is beautiful. Looks like it was refinished a while back. Estimated to have been made in the 1850s, is gorgeous. The dresser's mirror-image crotch-grain mahogany is absolutely beautiful, a hallmark of quality in fine furniture construction. Very Nice Antique Empire Style Dresser with hand carved columns, flame mahogany
Hi. And thanks for looking! This listing is for a real antique empire style dresser. This is a good sized piece, 47 inches high, 42.5 wide, and 23 deep. There is three drawers on the bottom and two up top, all with hand cut dovetails. I think the bottoms of the drawers as well as other parts are all one piece of wood with no seams. The front has beautiful flame mahogany veneer which is in fairly good shape except on the top drawers, which have slight curve. Along each side of the front are greek colums with hand carved details top and bottom. The top of the dresser is two boards that have been painted to look like wood grain. There is a gap in between them, due to age I suppose. All the drawer pulls are clear glass, I don't think they are original, but they are old, and some don't match exactly. A very nice antique. Circa 1830's, Empire Period solid mahogany chest of drawers, with the drawer fronts in flame mahogany veneers. The columns are veneer wrapped around, with carved capitols. Case is on four ball feet. The drawers and secondary wood is pine. The top is of three mahogany boards. The sides have recessed panels. Chest measures 53" tall by 50" wide by 24" deep. Very good plus condition: original unworn finish, flame veneers very fine. The lock to the top center drawer is missing, four other drawer locks present. The Chippendale style brass escutcheons are old replacements for the Empire style originals. Minor chip to edge molding around the top boards. Back boards with shrinkage cracks masking taped over.

It came into our west coast warehouse off the last container. It has the beautiful finish. Which has always been for the Beidermeier that we hand pick. This wonderful seven drawer chest has a very unusual, besides the stunning match veneer fronts as you can see in the photos, it has the detail claw foot with toe nails also carved in, instead of the scroll or block feet. It is in wonderful condition with the typical age cracks on the plank sides and it has a stress crack across the top of the crown molding(on the very top) that is not visible unless you are standing on a chair. The finish is really nice and the escutcheons are all there. There is a key, but we do not guarantee the locks to work as they always need to be cleaned, oiled and adjusted, but they appear to be working currently. The seven drawers represent the seven days of the week for the men when they went to sea. On Sunday, it was their best day, so it is in the deepest drawer. These drawers never had handles as the key was used to unlock that days attire and open the drawer. The chest itself is breathtaking. Look at the selection of the flame mahogany that adorns the face of the hand cut dove tail drawers! The simplicity of no handles is a very stylish move. It has a clamshell molded top and ends with a bun foot that shows signs of the old European wood borers that used to b u rrow into the wood and they are all gone. But does show signs. It is all good and bug free! The only thing I can see wrong with it is that there was a little chip on the right hand side that the warehouse has professionally repaired and I can’t even see it in the photos. The drawer fronts are butterflied flame mahogany veneers, the drawer interiors in maple. The drawer undersides are chamfered. The solid mahogany case sides have recessed mahogany panels. Chest measures 58-1/4" tall by 45" wide by 24" deep. Excellent condition: original finish, some chipping to claw feet, minor veneer chips at top edge of two long drawers. Made in England circa 1860 Beautiful flame mahogany See description for full condition report Graduated drawers All brass handles, This exquisite antique chest of drawers was made in England during the Georgian period. Circa 1860. Recently, a third generation furniture maker in England hand restored the chest back to its original luster. The result is a stunning dresser in superb condition. This is a wonderful example of Georgian artistry and craftsmanship from the bow front shape to the splayed bracket feet. The drawers are a two over three graduated drawer ... moredesign. This means the drawers get slightly deeper as they go down. The all-brass plate back handles wonderfully accent these beautiful drawers. Both the top and drawer fronts are rich flame mahogany. The deep luster of the mahogany is extremely eye catching. This chest is in good condition having just been restored in England. There are locks. One slightly recessed, are present but no key. Above the locks on the first and third long drawers are repairs. There are a few cosmetic imperfections which can be viewed in the pictures. On the top of the dresser the back-right corner has been repaired. The front left foot has two minor split and moderate wear on all four feet. The top has light surface scratches and two minor age separations. There are a few wear marks throughout that the restorer has cleaned up and waxed over particularly on the sides. They now provide handsome character to the chest without being distracting. The result is a phenomenal antique dresser that will last your family for many years to come! Let’s don’t forget it has the wonderful carved claw feet that are original and hand cut top columns. The outside case is 44 1/4in wide, 23 1/4in front to back and 44in tall. LOTS OF SPACE! All drawers are dove tailed and hand cut, also you’ll find no circular saw marks in this fine chest, this is what dates it. The top two drawers, go in and out for style, and are 18 1/4in wide,18 front to back, 4 5/8in deep. This is prob. been made in the upper New England states due to the pine secondary wood. The three larger drawers are 37in wide, 16 front to back, and have depths of 5, 6 1/4, and 6 1/4in deep. The carved clawfeet are 4in wide at the bottom. A very fine antique. Circa 1840, Empire solid mahogany and flame mahogany veneers dressing mirror with three concave drawers. The mirror frame will swivel on brass pins, the glass original. The top surface has a rectangular patch that is original to the surface. Original finish unworn, mahogany solids without chips or cracks, tiny veneer chip to front right. Interior left drawer impress stamped: H. FELGATE. Mirror is without chips or cracks, no backing spots or cloudiness. The items measures 23-1/4" tall by 21" wide by 10-1/4" deep, the mirror frame 15-1/4" tall by 17-1/4" wide.

American Empire Thomas Day attr. Flame Crotch Mahogany Work Side Sewing Signed
I have owned this piece of furniture for several years trying to understand it's hybrid design of American Empire. I came to understand that it was called vernacular because it did not fit precisely into any style of the period. I had heard of the Freeman of color cabinetmaker. Thomas Day who worked in North Carolina and is acknowledged as America's pre-eminent craftsman working in the 1800's. I now know that he improvised traditional designs to reflect his own personal tastes. His craftsmanship was superlative with apprentices from both black and white journeyman. I also have come to understand that certain key points about his furniture helps identify itself. His choice of exotic and expensive veneers were masterfully matched. Being able to afford steam power equipment, he was able to produce veneers as thin as 1/16 of an inch. ... moreHis precise use of dovetailing to build drawers of cabinets. Nearly all of his furniture is not signed, most is acknowledged through attribution. This superlative example is particularly rare in that it is signed. The family history of a Mary Nye is written on the bottom of the top drawer probably in the hand of Thomas Day. The two drawer work table has letters inscribed in pencil on their sides: a"T" on both sides of the top drawer; a"D" on both sides of the bottom drawer. The letters match the script of the family history underneath the top drawer. Also. On the bottom of the table top is a large letter"D. The table is constructed with wrought iron nails. The dovetailing of the drawers are designed such that the drawer front overlaps the sides to prevent them from interfering with the action of the drawer. The drawers also feature hand-planed chamfered bottoms. The losses of some of the molding reveals a very thin 1/16" flame crotch veneer. The book matching of the veneers are masterful. The design and craftsmanship of this piece easily makes it attributable to Mr. Day. But to have pencil markings to additionally identify the table leave no room

We are pleased to be offering today this gorgeous seven drawer period Beidermeier flame mahogany dresser that comes with seven drawers to depicted the seven days of the week. Legend goes that this was designed a long time ago(you can find them nowadays coming out of Germany. Belgium and Denmark) This particular dresser represented the workers seven days of the week and he had the respective clothes with Sunday being the most special day, so it held the most clothes. They were never made with handles and the drawers are opened with the use of a key. Some people argue that the white escutcheon it is a plastic composite and other say it is celluloid. I just say it is very nice to keep it original. This particular chest dates from the 1850s era and is in wonderful condition. It comes with a large original key and all the locks appear to lock, ... morebut we never guarantee our locks to work as they always have to be peeled apart, oiled and maintained as they are very fussy. The chest itself is breathtaking. Look at the selection of the flame mahogany that adorns the face of the hand cut dove tail drawers! The simplicity of no handles is a very stylish move. It has a clamshell molded top and ends with a bun foot that shows signs of the old European wood borers that used to burrow into the wood and they are all gone, but does show signs. It is all good and bug free! The only thing I can see wrong with it is that there was a little chip on the right hand side that the warehouse has professionally repaired and I can’t even see it in the photos. It is all original with even the original chamfered back. It comes apart on top to the second drawer of the base if you want to make it a little shorter for shipping. It is 40 inches wide, 18 inches deep and 63 inches tall. It offers tons of storage in a very stylish and classic cabinet frame.
