These salt and pepper shakers are charmingly decorated. Each tapering cylindrical body has a rich hand hammered surface in the Japanese taste. One is decorated with an applied mixed metal crane and lily-of-the-valley floral bush, and the other is decorated with an applied mixed metal bird and a goat playfully eating the leaves from a bush. Both also have a ground of applied silver granulation. These scenes are artistically rendered and create a dynamic scene against the sparkling silver surface. Both have plain, detachable cap lids that have been beautifully pierced in a starburst and anchor motif. Each shaker is stamped under the base with the identifying marks of the Gorham Manufacturing Co. the words Sterling& Other Metals, and pattern numbers A92 M and 11 EX, each lid is also stamped with a number. Both measure approx. 3" high, and are in excellent condition overall. This lovely shaker set would make a striking addition to any table, and are a wonderful example of the eclecticism of the late 19th century. WEIGHTED REINFORCED and the number 3020. They are lightly weighted and weigh 111.5 grams on my jewelry scale. The shakers are in excellent antique condition. But one has a couple of bruises on the bottom rim and also a bruise on the side. The other is perfect(except for tarnish) They can both use a soft polish. Antique 1913 Bavaria Porcelain Salt and Pepper Shakers w/ Gold Dome
For Auction: This item is a wonderful pair of antique Bavaria signed Salt and Pepper Shakers. The shakers measure approx. 3 inches tall by 1 1/2 inches in diameter. The shakers are very beautiful and has a main ivory colored body with a hand-painted gold floral vine design and above that is a light pale blue color. The shakers are then topped with a soft gold dome at the holes area and is bordered by a small row of raised dots. Both shakers have their original cork stoppers. Both shakers are marked"Bavaria" in green on the bottoms. One shaker is also marked by the original owner"B.P. Steenburgh 1913" in black. Both shakers appear to have salt still contained in them in a semi-solidified clump. In excellent condition!

This is a gorgeous old set of 2 tall shakers. Estate find! Beautifully colored pink. Blue, yellow, green chintz pattern(all-over floral) These are pretty large: 5" tall. The holes in the top of the salt shaker are quite large.perhaps meant for sugar? not salt? not sure. Very good vintage condition: no chips. No cracks, just crazing throughout in keeping with age. Crazing does not detract from the appeal of these lovely shakers at all. Pls. see all photos for best description. There is a cork"plug" on bottom where fill-hole is. Up for Auction is a rare find. An impressive looking group of six Antique/vintage Maling open salts, each in the same pattern but in 6 different colors. Produced by C.T. Maling& Sons in Northumberland, UK. Each is on a footed pedestal and looks like an oblong egg cup. They measure approx. 3" wide and a bit over 2" high. These have an attractive transfer floral pattern and with the following exceptions are in excellent condition. There is a small crack on the lower base of the brown salt and a small chip on the lower base of the blue salt(see pictures) If you look on ebay, these are generally available only 1 at a time, usually with an ask of like $30/each and there are not many of them. The family were Protestant Huguenots who fled their native land in the sixteenth century to escape the threat of religious persecution. They settled in England and prospered in a variety of business enterprises including coal. Shipping and timber. Somewhere over the centuries the name was anglicized by the addition of a final"g" The pottery was founded at North Hylton near Sunderland in 1762. And transferred to Newcastle upon Tyne in 1817. Increasing business allowed the Maling family to build two further potteries. Each bigger than its predecessor. The last of these occupied a fourteen acre site, and was claimed by Maling to be the biggest pottery in Britain. Little is known about the pottery’s output for the first fifty years. This is the most interesting piece of chalk ware we have ever seen. It is colorful. Hand made, sound and without chips or cracks. It has a wonderful wear pattern on the base. We think it could be from the first half of the 19th Century, perhaps earlier. It measures 9 inches long by about 2¼ inches wide by about 2¾ inches deep.
