Wooden Eagle Pediments Pair of 2 Antique Architectural Federal Era Hand Carved
For your Early American Eagle collection or architectural restoration project we have a Pair of Two Wooden Eagle Pediments Antique Architectural Federal Era Birds that are Hand Carved in the early 1800's. These were recently mounted on iron stands for display. Using the original holes which go through from the top to the bottom in two places on each pair to host the iron rods that they are now fixed onto. Fairly substantial in size, each of these facing eagles actually measures 10" high x 13 1/2" wide x 1 1/4" deep(thick) and are ready for display on these stands that bring them up to 13" tall. Together they weigh 8 pounds 3.5 ounces including the iron stand. They show their age from alligatored varnish and a deepened patina to the wood. These look like they may have been painted over at one time. And have been dry ... morescraped to remove the paint. They have age cracks to the wood, including one that goes straight through the neck of one bird, yet have retained their aesthetic historic value and decorative appeal. The wood these are carved from is a very dense, hard wood. Hand carved eagle figures are still considered the epitome of collectible American folk art pieces and are generally associated with the Federal style era in architectural design. Which is a period that ranges from 1780 to 1830, appearing most commonly on frames, furniture, building ornamentation, and as motifs throughout the making of textiles and American advertising ephemera. To continue, Federal-style architecture is the name for the classic architecture built in North America between c. 1780 and 1830. And particularly from 1785 to 1815. This antique over door came from a local estate. It is a wonderfully crafted iron panel with round curves and a rounded top. The piece has age: it has oxidation on most of the parts as part of its charm. It looks very good over a large entry as a décor by itself. VINTAGE(circa 1890-1900) GOTHIC STYLE CHANCEL SCREEN: This is a beautifully carved section of a heavy oak Church chancel screen. The piece is made up of a wide base rail. With a vertical section at each end, that has been joined with a dentiled top sub-rail section. The Gothic style shaping and carving is of high quality. It is very easy to see that the chancel screen was built with great care and high levels of workmanship(please note that the joints between the top section and vertical balustrade end sections did not originally match.These joints were purposely left with shims) Each side of the piece is similar in construction and finish. The heavy wide bottom rail has three hand carved oak leaf bosses on each side of the piece. The wood used to make this screen was very heavy and dense'old world' oak. VINTAGE HAND CARVED EASTLAKE DESIGN CREST: Very nicely carved Eastlake crest. The two pieces of this mahogany crest were found two years apart. Unfortunately one small section of the bottom of the shield could not be found. The overall design of the crest is a very good example of Eastlake style carving with gold enamel inlay to highlight the carved areas. The two original finials are in place.The center panel on the shield is of a lighter color than the main body of the shield. Which is mahogany in color. Primitive Antique Door Panel Insert Architectural Salvage St. Matthew Chicago Ooooh. Got very lucky this week at one of my favorite flea markets. I have just about everything, from the very old and primitive to the very unique with some fabulous folk art thrown in too! I’ll be listing all week, so keep checking back! loveLoveLOVE this one- and it's brother. Which I will be listing next. Last year, I purchased one of these panels from an elderly gentleman who goes to the flea market every once in a while, in an attempt to clean out a garage that he says is packed. I have not seen him since my last purchase(and sold the other one) so was thrilled when I stumbled upon him again last week, and bought both of the pieces that he brought. This listing is for the piece that you see in my photos(one piece) and I will be listing the other one next ... moreso be sure to check that one out, too. According to what the man told me, he and his brother were in the door business- they sold new, and also reclaimed doors. He told me that this panel came from a door that was removed during a remodeling of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Chicago on 21st. St. He said that he really wanted the doors, but they were too big for him to be able to store, so what he did was remove the panels from the inserts, used some, and has kept the rest for years. Now, I found the church's website, but could not find a date that it was built. I'm guessing in the mid to later mid 1800s, as the church's address is 2108 W. 21st, and I also found the school which is 2101-2107 21st. I did find a date for the building of the school, which was 1882. This is a beautiful, rustic, primitive solid wood panel that has hand carved detail and a beautiful worn rusty-brown painted finish. The carving in the center looks like a daisy or flower to me- see what you think. You can see the unpainted, 3/4" perimeter of the panel where it used to fit in the door- the wood have a very dark patina and shows lots of wear. The back is not finished- I'm assuming

Small Fancy Primitive Antique Carved Wood Architectural Pediment Piece We traveled an hour and a half South into central Illinois for a football game this week. And I took the opportunity of going treasure hunting in the cornfields. I found a surprising variety– there’s something for everyone this week! Here is a lovely small antique wood pediment piece for you. It's fancy. Yet primitive shabby at the same time. In excellent solid and sturdy condition, it has very worn and chippy paint- you can see white under the current coat and honestly, it's so dirty, it's hard to tell if the current coat is tan, or if it's white and just covered with dirt and dust- please see my photos and what you think. It really needs a good bath, and I do not clean or mess with as found patina in any way. It measures 5" wide at the base, 4" ... morewidest at the carved wood top, 7 1/4" tall and 1 1/2" deep at the sides. It weighs just over 1/2 lb. It's solid, carved wood and it's beautiful. As you can see in my photos, the bottom is not painted on the front and back, and the sides of the base were never painted either. You can see one small hole on the front left- I am guessing it's from where/how it was mounted. The paint is very chippy and crackly and worn all over- yummy! I believe they are made of tin as they are very pliable and can bend and also be unbent easily. The tin is mounted onto a same shape piece of wood behind it for stability. This is a matching set of 3 although one of them has the center medallion piece missing. Each valance is mounted on 1" thick wood behind it with the hardware to attach it to the walls. They are not in perfect condition. They need a little bit of unbending and moving about a bit and then 2 of them will be pretty close to perfect antique condition. Description This is a great piece that was salvaged from a Philadelphia Victorian Home. It is made of oak and is currently painted white. It was originally the crown to a built in wardrobe. The shelf at the top is trimmed in reel and bead molding. The breast has repeating festoons with flowers. It measures 63.5 inches by 8 inches and is 3.5 inches thick. Overall it is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good scrubbing but will clean up nicely. The right side has return moldings. The left side does not.
