The wood is solid oak finished to a dark brown. It would work very well as a fireplace mantel-just trim out the bottom and add a top board. It can also work beautifully as a wall mounted bed headboard. Especially trimmed out with curtains, etc. There are many other possible uses as a shelf, crown, pediment or window box valence. This piece is in excellent antique condition with no damage of any significance. We have several other cabinet tops similar to this in different sizes and styles. Its overall lenght is about 22 1/2 inches-the widest part is about 8 inches. The leather is basically gone although all the riverts holding it in place are still there-the wood parts are in pretty good condition although there is a crack on the back side from near the handle to the center air intake hole. the metal blower end has surface rust but is still in pretty good shape. We think at least from the middle of the 1800's. We know some of the history of these items. They came from the homeplace when the fireplace was refurbished and an fireplace insert was put in place. The hearth crane was removed and these andirons were no longer needed. We think it was made by the original owner of the land and builder of the main part of the house. The fireplace was part of the original cabin. The house has been built onto over the years and remodeled by multiple owners. We think the original cabin was built by a man name Leonard Dangerfield born in 1804 and he was a gunsmith. His son Thomas. Who died in the Civil War was also a gunsmith. Between the two of them we think they possibly made this set. We thought about not selling these but we are in the position that if we don't need it and don't have a use for it.why keep it? We are definitely not going to put it back in the fireplace. We would rather keep the insert stove instead. Use the fireplace crane to hang a planter on the porch? My mother said, no" Too big for a small porch. So for someone this is a really good set of a hand forged wrought iron Antique fireplace crane and andirons with a history. The crane was built into the fireplace and swivels. The arm on the fireplace crane is 21 inches long. The height is 18 inches, the attachment arm is 10 inches. The andirons are about 6 inches high and 7 1/4 inches wide. VERY heavy. There are no returns but we like happy customers so please contact us with questions or concerns. Up for auction are 3 antique/vintage cast iron claw feet for furniture. I am not a subject matter expert. they come from the estate of an elderly couple and could have belonged to one of their parents. Not sure of their history! They are claw shaped and have a glass ball. Each measures about 3 3/8" long and 1 1/8" across the opening. There is one hole on the side but no screws. They are a rusty orange color. not sure if that is original or they were painted that way. there is some of that color on the glass balls. Up for auction is a beautiful pair of antique brass andirons. I would like to first point out that there is a piece missing on one of the andirons- it's the piece that goes into the hole in one of the hinges. This piece does not effect the way you use these andirons. Nor their ability to stand. As you can see in the pictures it is not really something one would notice unless you're looking for it. They are a beautiful addition to any fireplace. However, due to the missing piece, I am selling these andirons at a very inexpensive price. I will be honest. Professor Hale was a graduate of the University of Rochester and a leader in civic and religious activities in Rochester, NY. He served as President of the Board of First Baptist Church for many years, was an active Republican and know widely throughout the area for his extensive library. He died in February, 1925 at the age of 81. The top portion of the fireplace is about 72 inches wide and 24 inches deep. Antique Mantle Wood Early 1900's Not Refinished
I am selling an early 1900's Wood Mantle as shown in above picture. It is competely authentic and not re-finished like some of the others you see. I am pricing this piece to sell as soon as possible because frankly I need the money and it's taking up a lot of space in my garage. I haven't taken measurements but it's taller than me and I'm 6'3" I'd estimate about 6'8" tall and 6' wide. This thing is huge and was a pain in the butt moving. It is heavy that's why I am selling cheaply and as PICK UP ONLY. Compare the price on this to some of the others. I have been selling on ebay for over 8 years now. But I've never sold anything like this and not anything nearly this big. It came out of a home built in 1898 that I own. The shelf is curved- very cool. It is made of oak and is painted white. It measures 60" wide. 47.25" and is 11.5" deep. The firebox opening only is 41.5" wide. By 35.5" tall. Overall. This is a rare French Provincial Style clock.So it's very formal and could go in almost any room. This gorgeous piece can be a tall mantle clock or go on any table or nightstand or chest of drawers. The face of the clock is gold and very ornate with Roman Numerals and thats where it's marked Louis XV. There are no other maker's marks that can be seen. This gorgeous piece is 11.5 inches tall at the tallest point and 5 inches wide and 3 inches deep. I don't see any scratches on the clock or glass face. Fine condition. Here we have an amazing cast iron fireplace surround complete with frame and door. It came from a home built in 1901 and mantle it was with was dated 1901 on the builders label. As you can see it has an incredible Outdoor Scene with deer and a 12 point buck and other very ornate detail. These REALLY look like brass. But a magnet sticks to everything, so I am assuming it is cast iron. They are at least from the 70's, because they were in my Mothers house for at least that long.
