Hi. Here is another beautiful multi reliquary from the estate of a French Archbishop who had a huge relic collection. This relic contains 2 importand relics: EX VELO BVM- The Veil of Blessed Virgin Mary-OSS S. ANT PAT- Oss relic of Saint Anthony Padua also called Patova The reliquary itself is fire gilded with 24K gold. This was a process done mainly in France where the base metal was heated up then gilded with a mixture of pure gold and mercury. The mercury would evaporate. Leaving a rich gold gilding. This was a dangerous process for the guilders, as they usually ended up with mercury poisoning. Don't worry, the mercury is all gone, and this is safe to wear. From the style of this reliquary. This is another relic from the estate of a French Archbishop's extensive relic collection. This is a relic of Saint Joseph's staff or walking stick. The relic is labeled: S. Joseph Sp BM. Saint Joseph, spouse of the Virgin Mary There are no first class relics of Saint Joseph. Ancient church tradition says he was assumed into heaven. Like the Blessed Mother, but this is not church dogma. There are 3 different relics associated with and venerated for Saint Joseph; his cloak. His staff and his belt. This relic is from his staff. The main relic of his staff is encased in silver and kept in the Hermitage of Camaldoli in Central Italy. The staff St. Joseph holds comes from an apocryphal tale. According to The Golden Legend. This is an unusually large Agnus Dei. Measuring 4 1/4" inches long, and 3 1/2" wide. This Agnus Dei comes from the reign of Pope Pius IX, and is dated 1853. On the fromt is the Agnus Dei, the Lamb of God, with the latin words ECCE AGNVS DEI QVI TOL PEC MVN ` PIVS IX PONT MAX 1853, translating to This is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, Pope Pius ix, Great Pontiff 1853. The way it is set up, the red threads hold the sacramental to the frame, but one is able to easily remove the disk to handle it or to turn it over and display the other side. The frame is made of metal, and silk backed board. There is a stand so the relic can stand on a table. The label AGNUS DEI is hand written in a scroll like manner, and it is covered with a layer of shellac or old shiny glue. This has preserved the colors remarkably. It shows only a flower. When open. one side shows a likeness of the saint with a blue background. The other side is the relic itself. This is a piece of clothing worn by Mother Cabrini during her lifetime. Around the relic are the words"Relic, St. Frances Cabrini. It is in its original Cellophane wrap from where it was assembled in Italy. Included is a 38 page book of biography and prayers. Mother Cabrini did much of her work and died in Chicago. Antoni Maria Claret i Clarà; Spanish: Antonio María Claret y Clarà; December 23. 1807– October 24, 1870) was a Catalan Spanish Roman Catholic archbishop and missionary, and was confessor of Isabella II of Spain. He founded the congregation of Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, commonly called the Claretians. Antoni Maria Claret i Clarà was born in Sallent. In the County of Bages in the Province of Barcelona, on December 23, 1807, the son of a woollen manufacturer. He received an elementary education in his native village, and at the age of twelve became a weaver. Later he went to Barcelona to specialize in his trade, and remained there until he was twenty years old. This card has a small piece of cloth touched to the remains of St. Marguerite. It measures 1 1/2 x 2 1/4 inches The back has a seal that is from the Congrégation de Notre-Dame De Montreal. The relic is in good. Pre-owned condition but does have some creases. I am selling it as I found it- with a picture of a little girl pinned to it. On the picture is a small fragment of cloth. There is no indication as to who the little girl is or any other information about her. This is a relic of Saint Anthony of Padua. The Wonder Worker. also known as Saint Anthony of Lisbon, as that is his birthplace. Patron of the poor and of finding lost things. This relic measures 1 5/8" x 1 3/8" It is labeled s. Antonii Pat. The certificate is dated 1920 in Roman numerals. MCMXX. The relic is dated 1920 above the wax seal. The wax seal matches perfectly with the raised embossed seal on the document.please note.the Document is from the Roman Curia.the printed coat of arms is papal, Pope Pius, hence the Keys of Saint Peter and the Tiara)the embossed seal is the seal of the officiating Cardinal who signed the document. It looks like Phillip Vic* or Nic* but either way, the document and the relic match up beautifully, of interest might be the ornate framed hair relic with the same wax seals, dated 1921, of Blessed Mary ... moreof the Divine Heart of Jesus, which is listed in a separate auction. The document measures 9 1/2" x 12 1/2" A few areas. Pictured, looks like they were splattered with iron gaul ink, which can be corrosive. I tried to take pics, but it is hard because they are so small. The filigree work in this reliquary is incredibly detailed. There are four red stones, I think they are glass on the front. The reliquary has a little hook at the top. The back comes off to reveal a very well cared for relic. The wax seal and the threads are in place. It measures 1 1/2 inches x 1 1/2 inches. GLASS Relic Reliquary SAINT AURALIA Petronella Martyr 1700s St. Peter's Daughter
This is an extremely rare type of reliquary with a substantial relic of Saint Auralia. Martyr. There were 2 Saint Aurelias who were martyrs, but when I obtained this relic from the estate of a French Archbishop, the family had an inventory, hand written by the Archbishop. He had this reliquary listed as"Ste. Aurelie Peyronelle. Saint Auralie Petronell was said to be Saint Peter's daughter. But, if you scroll down and read her biography, you will see current church thinking. She was martyred in the 1st century. This reliquary is made of hand blown glass. Surrounding the holy relic is white wool. The relic is labeled S. Aurely M. It stands 4 1/2 inches tall and 2 1/4 inches in diameter. The reliquary is sealed with parchment. Huge GOTHIC Relic Reliquary Cathedral Altar Theca SAINT JULIIUS Veteran SOLDIER
Hi. What an incredible reliquary! Containing a 5" section of Saint Julias. Veteran Soldier. Please see below for more information about this miraculous saint! This was part of a French Archbishop's major relic collection. In his hand written inventory. He listed this as a" cathédrale reliquairy de l'évêque. Beziers, St. Jlias, Vet. M. or"Cathedral bishop's alter relic. Beziers Cathedral, Saint Julias, Veteran" also known as" Cathédrale Saint-Nazaire-et-Saint-Celse de Béziers" whose bishophricate was terminated in 1800's. That means that while the cathedral remained. It was no longer the seat of a bishop. Many such"demotions" occurred after the revolution, not as a punishment or true demotions, but more as a reorganization under the new order. It is not unusual ... morefor a Cathedral relic to be removed and to change hands during this time. Not all Catherdral relics were truly owned by the Cathedral which housed it, but oftentimes"lent" to the Cathedral by an ecclesiastic or bishop. Who had the rights to remove the relic and/or gift it. This gorgeous reliquary stands almost 16" high. It is made of brass gilded with 24 karat gold. Inside is housed a HUGE relic of saint Julian. Soldier, Martyr. Arm. The relic is sealed with a wax seal on the top, and also on the underside of the reliquary with 4 red silk threads and a perfect wax seal. The entire relic is covered with a bell Shaped crystal cover. The relic is marked, and written S. Julian, Maytyr. The relic itself measures 5" high. The entire reliquary weighs 6.3 pounds. It has a"roof" and cross which is removable to access the relic, although the relic is completely sealed 2 times. You can touch the actual relic, but not remove it.
