This grand arch once graced a fine estate during the late Victorian era. It favors a large central medallion type crest. Acanthus leaf with leaf and rose carved swags that are divided by bow ties. This huge piece was a focal point of a double parlor room as it separated the opening between the rooms. Very large and very heavy. Some damage is seen with minor losses to applied trim and rose blossoms. There is also fine white paint splatter, loss to a bow and an old age crack down the crest. The thickness on this piece is almost 4" Stunning and fabulous my dear. Belongs in an antebellum mansion like the one it came from. Wear is consistent with age. Well worth the price. The uprights go right through the rails. Some are broken but easily replaced with ones from leftover sections, and there are some loose parts. Nice for display use, or to wrap grapevines or other vines to grow in the garden. It would be enough to enclose a small front yard. Gate is secured to column with spring harware. Selling an antique round cast iron string holder. The patent date is Nov. 26 1872. This string holder is in excellent condition with a great patina that still exhibits portions of the original golden bronze finish. The holder and the footed base both display beautiful lacework cast iron. Most string holders from this time period have solid bases or no base at all. The top half of the round portion has a push button latch that allows it's removal. This piece is as sturdy as the day it was manufactured. On the North West corner of Houston Street, facing Houston Street to Mercer Street was designed by the famous McKim, Mead and White firm in 1892. The building is a 9 story 200' by 100' 129' tall structure which was the power plant for the Metropolitan Street Railway Co. Metropolitan Traction Co. Cable car) line on Broadway. I have a copy of an 1894 Scribners magazine article on this railway and a Scientific American issue from 1897. With photos and line cuts. I also have several stereo view cards I scanned. One from 1894 and I have one from before the Cable Building was built- St Thomas Church can just about be made out in the distance- both taken from a block South on Broadway at the Metropolitan Hotel. Thus far I have not found one photo or even one article about the actual construction of the BUILDING and I find that very unusual given it was a McKim. Mead and White design, it was a main power plant for a then very new mode of transportation, and the building itself had to have it's foundations dug to an unusual depth- 40 feet in order to isolate the heavy vibrating machinery from the office building itself. It had(4) 1.000 Horse Power steam engines and 18 boilers in the basement, the engines had a 32 foot diameter driving drum and was the largest steam powered plant of it's kind. Looks like bracket swivels left and right. Brass Swan neck with green painted end with Porcelain burner end. The end unscrews- green part stamped'NICO' Could all be polished/ clean up. Could be converted to Electric? Approx 27 cm tall and 29cm from wall to light edge. Nice old period item. Lot of 50. Reclaimed, century old, Victorian roof shingles available. These Victorian era Church Arch style tin shingles are over 100 years old. Measuring approx 9" x 13.75" each. Made around 1902 from Cortright Metal Roofing manufactured in Philadelphia and Chicago. They can easily be joined together to make rows. Little or no rust. Some dents and slightly curled edges from removal(easily pounded or straightened out) and nail holes from where they were attached, some(not all) have a little roofing patch on them. They are dirty, sharp and historic. Use these for crafts. This is a lot of(3) panels. Each panel is 23 1/4 inches long by 10 1/8" wide. Some of the panels have cracks in them some are in good condition for the age. A finely crafted electric doorbell. Tested and working, Nickel plate is gone on the steel parts, but remains on brass parts. I find no maker's mark other than'No, 803' and'Pat Mar 1897' Has a serious ring to it.
