Antique Art Nouveau Helman majolica border tile. Circa 1900. Hand-painted with a crackle glaze. The Helman mark is on the back of the tile. It is in used, but good condition. There are tiny chips on the edges and a very light amount of grout on the back. The tile measures 6" x 3.

Set of 4 Antique Encaustic Floor Tiles made in England. Size- Each tile is about 6 inches by 6 inches Square These 4 tiles are in EXCELLENT condition and I have photographed the minor chips in the edges I can see. These tiles DO NOT appear to have ever been set as the backs are clean. This is a set of 4 each matching tiles- made by The Campbell Tile Co. Stoke Upon Trent: The partnership between Colin Minton Campbell and Michael Daintry Hollins ended in 1868. It produced a split in the famous Minton company. With Campbell in charge of china production at Minton's China Works, and Hollins producing tiles of various types at Minton, Hollins& Co. Campbell also started to produce tiles, but it was not until he took over an existing tileworks in 1875 that production of encaustic and mosaic floor tiles began. This business was originally ... morestyled the Minton Brick& Tile Co. though a lawsuit brought by Hollins forced Campbell to drop'Minton' from the name. The sale is for this antique tile. It is a dust- pressed tile measuring a little more than 4 1/4 inches square. It was most likely designed by the noted ceramicist Herman Mueller and was made by the American Encaustic Tiling Co. to commemorate the dedication of its new factory in Zanesville. Ohio on April 19. 1892. It is in very good condition while noting that the lower left and upper right hand corners are very slighty"rubbed" This tile is featured in the book called“American Art Tile” by Norman Karlson(what I consider a bible of tile collecting)

Hand Painted, De Morgan?,Tiles
These tiles are something of a mystery to me. They are on 5" Minton blanks and when I bought them I was told that there was a possible link to William de Morgan. Since then I have visited Blackwell, the Arts and Crafts house in the Lake District, where the Inglenook in the Dining Hall has virtually identical tiles, except that they are blue. Apparently all the tiles in the house were supplied by de Morgan, so are these two rejects from that project? I don't know, perhaps someone does. Both tiles have some damage so please look at the photographs carefully, I have not taken them out of the frames in order to retain their integrity. c.1900 PILKINGTONS Art Nouveau MAJOLICA TILE- Embossed Trefoil Leaves& Lilies Click to see supersized image Click to see supersized image Click to see supersized image Description: A super Pilkingtons majolica tile with embossed symmetrical pattern in the form of four overlapping trefoil leaves and four lily flowers at the corners. It is predominantely pale green with yellow flowers and centre boss. The back is embossed with a"P" in opposite diagonal corners. Condition/ Defects: The tile is in very good clean condition; it has a tiny chip to the glaze at one corner. Minor rubbing to a few high points, and crazing in the glaze all over. The back has one small patch of residual adhesive, and a pencil annotation. Please supersize the photos to see better. Art Deco Terra Cotta Brick Glazed Facade Tile Chicago Northwestern Terra Cotta
Offered for auction is a great vintage piece of Chicago history. This fabulous tile façade brick was made by the Northwestern Terra Cotta Co in the 1920’s. This company provided terra cotta bricks and tiles for many of the famous architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright and Louis Sullivan. Many of the landmark buildings in Chicago have decorative elements provided by this company. The brick is classic Art Deco with a fabulous incised design. It is glazed a red terra cotta color with flecks of black and gray. It is glazed on all sides but the glaze has been rubbed off on one edge. The tile is in very good condition. It has minor scrapes here and there with a large chip on the backside of one end. Both top and bottom. This would not be visible with installation and does not affect the ability to use the brick. Anatolia to Central Asia. 11th- 13th Century I.Iridescent Seljuk Star Tile 1.The Sejuks ruled from Central Asia, through Iran, Iraq, Syria south to Mecca& eastern Anatolia, during the eleventh to twelfth centuries. Several dynasties of Turkish origin created unique Islamic art forms now referred to as Seljuk art. Amongst their achievements was production of cobalt blue& luster ware potteries. Characteristic amongst tiles were the“star” shaped tiles, as this in very early example. 1.In order to illustrate certain characteristics of the tile, the images have been“enhanced” with image contrasting tools to highlight the design& iridescence. 1.Characteristic 8-pointed star-shaped tile, utilizing cobalt-blue for the decoration and for the border elements. 1.Another way to show more details is to wet the surface of the tile, thus showing ... moremaking the surface more translucent and revealing more of the colors& the pasterns below the surface. 1.Although not very apparent, the tile is likely decorated with floral motifs executed in turquoise, cobalt-blue and luster glazing. 1.Size: ~ 20.3 cm(8" Stonepaste(fritware) White& clear glaze(with possible overglaze of luster designs) and under glaze in cobalt blue. 1.The tile varies slightly in thickness: ~ 11 mm(Note the turquoise glaze on sides) 1.This tile exhibits iridescence(the rainbow-like effect) when viewed at different angles& is determined by the angle of incidence of the source of light. This is a nice example of an antique architectural advertising tile. It is a miniature roof coping tile. Presumably a salesmans sample. It is stamped The National Terra Cotta& Brick Company Kansas City Mo. It is made of unglazed red clay. It is 3 1/2" wide by 2" tall by 1/2" thick. It is in good condition. There are some small chips along the edges. This and other tiles I have for sale were excavated from a site that was the refuse area for a tile store or tile setter in the early 1900s. This site was in the northwestern Chicago suburbs.

Description This Art Nouveau Tile was made in France at the Choisy le Roi Factory. The makers mark" H-ie Boulanger& Cie, Faiencerie de Choisy le Roi, Seine" is on the reverse. The Tile shows the"Grand Palais" in the Champs Elysees, Paris surrounded by a floral Art Nouveau style border. The Grand Palais was built to host the 1900 World Fair, I imagine the Tile was made to commemorate this. It is one of Paris' most recognizable landmarks thanks to its magnificent glass-domed roof. The Tile was probably part of a series as it is numbered 111. It is in good condition, there is some light crazing and discolouration, there are two small nibbles to the top corners, no other damage or restoration.
