Circa 1790 Item# 130002IRP01 This is a wonderful English Chippendale ... morePeriod Carved Ball and Claw Foot Antique Game Table. Late 18th Century c. 1790. It is a piece upon which no expense was spared in the production. As every design embellishment commonly associated with the period was executed on this piece. The mahogany top has a nailed quarter-round rim applied on both levels, opening on original brass hinges and untouched screws to reveal a replaced felt surface bordered by mahogany. It projects softly over the frame. This being covered in vertically grained mahogany veneers not just on the front and on the sides, but also along the entire back. This added expense of finishing the back leg surfaces and adding the thick veneers is typically superfluous and considered unnecessary, as the table would remain against the wall- this detail certainly hints this was a commissioned piece for a home of means. The frame is dovetailed pine, as evident when opening the rear gating-leg, the drawer blades likewise dovetailed on either side as they stretch horizontally beneath and above the drawer. The facade of the table has a single broad drawer in the center. The edges framed in tacked cockbead molding(absent on the right side) around the dovetailed oak secondary woods, the bottom crafted of five untouched oak boards nailed perpendicular to the face. The cast brass bail pull handle is absolutely gorgeous, an entirely original and entirely hand forged work of art still retaining it's original backplates, pins and nuts. The underside of the apron has applied gadrooned molding. Nailed every few inches from beneath with short iron nails, carved to match up with the outward flowing acanthus scrolls of the knee returns. The workmanship in the carved knees is exacting, the crisp flowing rococo lines simply sprawling over the sharp knees and down the leg as a natural outgrowth from the gadrooning. Antique Louis the 14th Rhone Valley Walnut 3 Drawer Chest
I am offering this early 18th century Louis the 14th chest of drawers. This 3 drawer chest is completely hand cut and pegged walnut. It was assembled entirely with dovetails and pegs by a 18th century French cabinet maker. All the original hand cast hardware remains as well as the original key. The piece is heavy with the drawer sides and fronts measuring 1 inch thick. The construction verifies it's age by evidence of hand cuts. Huge dovetails and pegs. The overall measurements are 49"W x 36"H x 24"D. The top is a solid piece of walnut with a knot in the wood as evidenced by the photographs. There are a couple of places where the wood has developed age cracks from being 300 years old. I consider this a validation of the age of the piece and part of it's character and history. There is one imperfection on one corner ... moreof the top(visible in a photograph) that was probably caused by a heat generating light source at some point in it's lifetime prior to electricity. I have seen one other example similar to this in an antique shop in Charleston SC. It had a similar imperfection in the same area as this one. The price on that one was $24,000. When Purchased. Was advised that this was 17th or 18th C. probably Spanish gold treasure chest in heavy metal with wrought iron hardware including pole brackets and hasps. Hinging lid shows hand wrought rivets and remnants of metal around the perimeter, bottom constructed with hand riveted metal cleats, interior with metal divider. The previously owner had the chest sand blasted, and some parts were removed, but can be easily restored. Some deterioration however, chest very good overall with a wonderful old. Offered for sale is this Early Pennsylvania Walnut Tall Chest-circa 1770! This chest was restored during the centennial era at which time the feet were probably changed as ogee bracket feet should be correct. The feet were most likely worn down or broken hence the restoration. The top was also enhanced with the addition of a broken arch treatment. During that era of restoration strong Chippendale influences were the rage. The work itself is very well done. Those cabinetmakers of the Victorian era had no way of envisioning that the early American furniture they were restoring would be more valuable in a pure state. The back ... moreis original and the hardware is correct in fashion. But replaced recently. Rosehead nails abound the back boards. The finish is also recent, but care was taken not to strip the bare wood. All things considered the chest is beautiful and more dramatic than original. It also isn't $6,000 as is an original. ANTIQUE 1780's BLANKET CHEST COFFER INTRICATE CARVINGS This is an absolutely beautiful blanket chest coffer. It is a phenomenal piece of history. It dates to about 1780's. It features intricate carving on the front. Chamfer back paneled, HANDFORGED heart shaped handles, hand wrought rosette nails and square nails, dovetailed joints, wood peg jointed which is all typical for the period. The top has some cracks. It has some newer flat head screws in the top(still older screws) It appears to have been cut down and looks a little uneven when I look at it. Overall this piece is still super solid for the age! Up for auction is a beautiful and unusual 1700's Chippendale style. Two drawer blanket chest refinished and ready to use. This is a beautiful primitive piece with raised storage and two pull out drawers. Wonderful antique details such as the original hinges and the cut Chippendale style legs. This is a wide plank pine chest with Chestnut drawers. Very unusual solid large boards where used from a time when pine could be harvested in this size. The hinges are hand hammered. Knot holes are tin covered to keep mice out. This piece measures 41 1/2" high x 39 1/2" wide x 18 3/4" deep. Here is a beautiful primitive piece with a lot of character. This chest has been shown to the top pilgrim century experts in the country and the consensus is it is the only recorded chest with pentagrams incorporated into the front carving. The pentagram during that period was used by spiritualists to protect against evil spirits during the renascence 1400-1700. And is a well known symbol of the free masons. And of course was incorporated into the American flag representing the first colonies. There was a split opinion about whether it is american or English but it is american pilgrim. Antique Primative 18th Cen. 6 Board Blanket Chest Green c.1790 Rose Head nails
PICK-UP ONLY! A rare. Old, authentic six(6) board blanket chest found in South Carolina. Based on the construction and the rose-head nails, the chest(blanket box) has been dated at around 1790. The boards are made of pine and in surprisingly good condition. There are a few signs of wear. Such as some of the trim is missing from the bottom and top, the locking mechanism is missing and one of the strap hinges is not attached. Also, the till is missing. The hinges are hand made(forged) individually by a blacksmith. The original nails are also individually made by a blacksmith, there are some other nails that have been added later, some for the purpose of attaching some sort of lining, possibly, most of the original nails are in place, I took a photo of 2 of the rose head nails that were in the bottom of the box, one of them appears to be for ... morethe loose strap hinge. There are at least two modern screws that I found. One was put in one of the hinges and another was put on the bottom board to help secure it. The chest is very sturdy and strong. not rickety at all. You can sit, or even stand on it(not that I would) I am asking a fair amount for this very old work of art and important piece of Americana, but I will entertain all reasonable offers. As for shipping and delivery; I am not prepared to ship this large box. With a width of over 42 inches(height and depth are both around 17 1/2" I do not want to try shipping this. I am listing it as; for PICK-UP ONLY. I will try to work with you as best I can. And might be able to meet you half way, if its within a couple hundred miles of Fayetteville, NC I'm not sure if the hideous green paint is original or not.

This auction is for a Tiger maple miniature blanket box with a till. This is an exact reproduction of a tiger maple blanket box right down to the till that is hand mortised in. This box is 100% tiger maple. The only thing that is not are the little glue blocks under the base which are pine. The box and base are all hand dovetailed together. The lid is attached with antique brass hinges. The hinges are hand recessed in and held with antique flathead brass screws. There is also an antique brass escutcheon which is hand inlaid. There is no lock present. The bottom in the box is hand chamfered tiger maple as well. The box is all aged properly inside and out. Also has an antique smooth finish. The chest is 45 1/2' long x 18 1/4" wide. It is 20 1/2" high. It has a 15 1/4" high interior and stores quite a bit. The wood has a nice patina and a lovely feel. We do not have the key. This auction is for a Sheraton Style Solid Tiger Maple Miniature Blanket Box with Till(also solid tiger) The entire box is mortis and tenon construction with square wooden walnut pegs holding the box together. It has two all hand-dovetailed drawers with chamfered bottoms. The drawers have hand-turned tiger maple knobs(wooden knobs are much more authentic. As very few people could afford metal hardware back then) I used hinges from antique furniture that could not be repaired. This box has an inlaid Brass Escutcheon With chiseled out cut out for lock. The lid is also chiseled for the lock catch with screw holes for attaching lock and catch. But no actual lock. This box also has an antique-smooth finish. An attractive George III Sheraton inlaid mahogany cellarette with pot cupboard. Resting on square tapering legs terminating in original brass castors. The dome top is inlaid, veneered in a beautiful flame mahogany and opens to reveal six bottle compartments still with most of the original metal linings intact. These compartments will take bottles of up to 5 1/4" diameter and up to 10" in height- this was made for the early mallet shaped bottles of the period so would be ideal for a bottle collector. The front of the cellarette is inlaid and fitted with a later decorative brass keyhole escutcheon and original brass lock with George III coat of arms, though we do not have a key. The sides are fitted with original brass carrying handles. Beneath the cellarette is a pot cupboard, the door inlaid, veneered in flame mahogany and fitted ... morewith a decorative escutcheon matching the one on the cellarette. This is an old oak chest that has'Black Watch' also'H.F.F. Murray' written in black lettering on the lid. It's been a much used chest in it's life and is covered with scratches. Dents and many marks but it's an item full of interest. I have owned it for many years and it used to go in my cottage lounge where it looked perfect with a large lamp on the top. If you know an HFF Murray or maybe someone that does…that may have been in the Black Watch then this old box will find it's proper home! The box is aprox 33" in length, 20" in depth& 19.5" high. Beautiful Antique circa 1750's 18th Century Carved Elm Dough Bin Beautiful Antique Circa 1750's 18th Century Carved Elm Dough Bin A fine excellent example of a Georgian Dough Bin and Proving Table In excellent solid condition. And with spectacular carved detail. History of the Dough Bin Baking used to be an important weekly task in many households. Bread was a staple food in Europe and North America. People depended on having plenty of it: not just medieval peasants with scant resources. But 19th century middle-class families too. A family of ten needed“three pecks” of flour for a week’s bread. Three pecks is roughly 27 litres The flour was tipped into a dough box or trough to start bread-making. It held the flour more tidily than a bowl. If the trough was on legs it didn’t need to sit on a table. And could be moved to a part of the ... moreroom where the temperature was right. The flour had to be warmed in winter if it had come in from a cold barn or cellar. And a dough box was a good place for that. Once the yeast was added the mixture had to stay quite warm for the dough to rise into a nice“sponge” which would make light bread. You could knead the dough thoroughly in a box-shaped trough without spilling much flour. The box’s position near the fire was important. The lid was good for keeping in the warmth. And it protected the dough from mice, ash, or other horrors: especially useful if the dough was left to rise a long time. Overnight was not unusual. Slow rising generally improved flavour and texture, and did not require temperatures near to blood heat. The lid offered a surface for shaping the risen dough into loaves and then leaving them to rise again after being handled. Large antique oak coffer blanket box chest mid C18th An attractive oak coffer/ blanket box in oak. This dates from the mid eighteenth century and is in surprisingly original condition. It stands on stile feet and has a three panel front which does not have later carving as so many do. The lock and striking plate are intact. A good large size. This coffer is very solid and sturdy and will give many more years of use. It has age related marks of use and old splits as one would expect. It has the original floor and back.
