I don't remember the name of it, but an old church was torn down in illinois, and just before the trash was to be removed from the property, a scavenger was allowed to pick through the debris, found and brought these to me. it was assumed that they belonged to the nuns as they were found on the side of the housing of the nuns. i have kept them all this time and it is now time to pass them and all their prayers on to the next caregiver. i had a neighbor help me see and describe them. As the stanhope are impossible for me to see. they are the stations of the Cross, Jesus falling with Cross. Passion of Christ. there are TWO stanhopes missing from this beautiful antique Rosary. i(we) see no other markings ... moreand the crystal beads are not cracked. this is a very rare Rosary. I can't explain how warm and Blessed this Rosary feels. it is very special. the second Rosary is wooden. there is writing on the back of the cross. And i do not know if the trim is silver or not. it is light weight and the Cross is very beautiful. the third Rosary is marked 1/20 12K gold at back of cross. And beads are glass and peeling. this rosary is also beautiful. the fourth Rosary is silver and crystal and marked. the beads are not cracked and the details are quite humbling. the last item is either a bracelet or chaplet and was not from that church. Antique 1800's Rosary: Cocoa Bead from FRANCE: Needs repairs
The rosary is a fixer upper from France. Very old the beads are havy and have a wonderful feel in the hand. Carved Our Father beads. Several beads need rewiring or respacing, the connector is unusable and will need replacing. The crucifix has been cleaned and oiled but was once rusty and has a stain on the back that reflects this. The crucifix is not attached correctly. With a little wire work on the beads and either cleaning the crucifix more and adding a new connector a rosary repair person will have a beautiful antique piece from France. Antique Late 1800's Nun's Rosary: Wire & Cocoa Bead from FRANCE
The rosary is very long. And was worn tucked at the waist.Made from mesh metal with carved Our Father beads.The crucifix and connector medal seem to be silver. I have tried to clean around the corpus but needs more cleaning I did not want to ruin the old patina. Perhaps use a little toothpaste and a tooth pick. The chain was rubbed with WD-40 and is supple and strong, moves well. This was a well used rosary and is in excellent condition for the age, except for the few spots of rust. Please see the pictures. The rust spots darken the chain. Notice the area above the first bead after the crucifix. I have seen this rosary offered on some antique websites for several hundred dollars or more. DESCRIPTION: Rare antique genuine carnelian and pomponne rosary. Circa 1830. I bought this rosary and some others who are in my shop at auction in a castle in the west of France. This rosary seems to be italian, it was offered to the Countess of LaRoche Macé by an officer who had just returned from Italy. It has 5 decade separated by a large caped bead. And small faceted pomponne or ormolu beads, it has only 56 beads, I suppose 3 beads are missing, but I am not sure because this type of rosary is unusual. The beads are strung on a cotton thread. The thread should be changed but I did not because it leaves the choice to put a clasp and wear it as a necklace, it would be beautiful. This is museum worthy. Almost 200 years old! Antique Rosary Miniature Ladies Victorian mourning rosary (Civil War)
I've tried to show how tiny this dainty little antique catholic rosary is. About 10 1/2 inches long with tiny beads. I placed a regular sized rosary and a dollar and a quarter for scale. Rolled up it is about the size of a quarter. I was told years ago that this is a Victorian ladies rosary and the reason it is so tiny was so that she could tuck it in her clothing during her lengthy"mourning" period"and/OR" it was so small because metal was scarce during war time(Civil War? WWI? If anyone knows for sure if this is circa Civil War; I would love to know. Thank you. Tucked inside is a worn but beautiful old St. Francis Xavier prayer card, and a tiny travel St. Joseph Statue. The Rosary is marked Sterling Di Roma on the back of the crucifix. Is in good shape, the corpus has some worn areas and tarnishing from years of prayer. The large Our Lady of Mt Carmel medal is marked Sterling as well. Antique guilloche enamel rosary locket case chatelaine pendant sterling silver
Gorgeous and perfect antique rosary and locket case features a guilloche plaque enameled in a pale blue with pink roses. The case is sterling silver stamped on the inside. The back has an engraved monogram"EMR" or"ERM" Inside is nestled a rosary; It seems to be sterling as well but there are no stamps or markings that I can see. The enameling is in perfect condition with no damage whatsoever. The case is also perfect. No dings or dents, just gentle wear consistent with age. The jump ring at the top also seems to be original to the piece. Locket measures 1 1/16" high and 5/16" thick. Rosary is 20 3/4" long. I try very hard to describe my items accurately and give plenty of detail so there are no surprises. The rosary measures 21" from top of loop to end of crucifix. The rosary has a 6" drop. The gold tone crucifix measures 1 3/4" long by 1 1/8" wide and is marked Czechoslovakia on the back.
