A beautiful rare children's(small child) victorian chair. According to my reseach about it. This is an antique from around the 19th century. It has been restored and reapolstered with velvet material. The chair has hand carved flowers and other details on it and is made of mahogany wood. There is only one section at the top of the chair where the wood is damaged a bit. The rest of the wood has only minor ware and is in good condition considering it's age. see photo's for good details. This is a rare find. But I am not an expert on antique's. I have a matching Catt table which will be listed in my store in the next week or so. The table will be on-hold until the chairs have sold. Provenance and Background Info A set of SIX 6 Catt swivel chairs made in Canningvale. Western Australia. Most or all these chairs have the original Catt label from the 70’s under the star-base. These chairs were part of the President suite designed in the mid-1970’s. This would be the most comfortable dining chair I’ve sat on in years. I could easily use one as a desk chair for the rest of my life. The curves and angles are spot-on but to top it off the cushioning is spongy and the chair also swivels. ... moreThese chairs are also extremely durable. They’re about 35 years old and I can’t see any reason why they won’t look like this after another 35 years. The bases are solid Jarrah with an internal steel support and the internal construction under the upholstery is also amazing. The seat shape has been created from metal and timber. If these chairs were upholstered in beige leather and put on the floor of Space Furniture today they would fetch $1200 each($7000+ for the set) I believe in leather they’d be better than most of what Space Furniture has on offer in this price bracket. Catt Furniture has many entries in the State Library of Western Australia. This company attracted much success in their day and deservedly so. This chair design helped Catt Furniture win the coveted Good Design Award in 1976(beating out competition from Sydney and Melbourne) State Library photos show carpenters making a table that went with this chair design. There are many archived photos that showcase their designs but it’s the photos of their workshop that drew me in. Every photo shows people making Catt Furniture BY HAND with pride. The base has a carved stretcher with excellent detail, and the chair stands on squat, carved legs. Simply stunning! This fantastic armchair has gorgeous handcarved detail. With depth and tone. The tapestry is superb! Handworked in wool, with finer stitching on the face and body of the figures, it features a battle scene with deity sitting in judgement. It has a lion on the seat. The tapestry is multicoloured, with beige, blue/grey and olive prominant. The chair is finished with individual studding, and the seat is sprung and webbed, making it very comfortable. This piece oozes quality, age and charm. An impressive piece, indeed! The armchair is big. It measures 123cm in height. And is 67.5cm at its maximum width. It is 59cm deep. The actual frame of the chair is in wonderful condition for age. With no splitting. The upholstery and tapestry are in very good antique condition. This is a genuine original wishbone chair. Designed by Hans Wegner in 1949 and manufactured in Denmark by Carl Jensen and Sons. The original label from the 1950s has the indented number 2, which I am led to believe is from the 2nd production- so a very early example. The chair is in fantastic condition, with the original paper cord seat intact and solid, without breaks, and joints solid and without movement. The paintwork however has started to peel, and has been touched up in places. Sold as is. A genuine original, not one of the many replicas available today, a rare find for the collector of authentic mid century furniture.
