THANK YOU. Here is a stunning and very desirable approximately 150 year old antique Japanese small Choba tansu. Or merchant's chest, dating from the Meiji Era around the mid to late 1800's, featuring a lock bar in the center and classical safe compartment at the bottom right. It boasts a natural light colour with a rich honey patina, beautifully shaped hand forged iron hardware, wood peg construction and 8 drawers of various sizes that provide versatile storage options including a full width drawer at the top. It is in excellent overall condition for it's age. But has a little lock issue: as there is no key and the top drawer lock is in the closed position with the drawer open it will not shut all the way. The safe compartment has a tendency to swing open by itself since there is no key to lock it. The lock issue does NOT affect the lock bar which slides in and out of place properly. Please read the description and examine the photos for more details on the condition. Locksmiths and larger antique dealers will own sets of multiple keys to fit a broad range of locks so you should be able to get the drawer unlocked easily enough so it slides into place. With a little patience you could also find an antique key that fits right here on ebay(I can recommend a seller who regularly stocks this type of item) Other small issues worth noting are a small repair in the bottom corner of the smallest drawer just above the safe compartment. The larger top drawer is stiff to open and close due to age and needs a tweak, and one corner plate in the back is bent out of shape. Given it's age there is some wearing off of the blackening of a few small spots of the iron, and a couple of small nails are missing. This is an antique storage box. I purchased it at an estate sale. There were wheels on the bottom. But they were broken, so I took them off. My guess is that this piece was a storage box for beneath a bed and then the wheels made it easy to pull it out. The measurements are as follows: 28" L x 19" W x 9" H Lid that lifts measures: 28" L x 15" D Interior measurements: 25 1/4" L x 16 3/8" W x 7 1/4" D The pull handles are tight. The hinges are tight and the lid is secure to the hinges. Weighs 26 pounds. Finish is original. I believe. It is stained a very dark walnut. I believe the wood is pine. You are bidding to purchase an amazing primitive antique steamer trunk that is unmarked. But reminds me of the Louis Vuitton ones. And covered with a textured substance that reminds me of leather. But I’m not sure that’s what it is. I appreciate any information you can provide about this well-traveled piece of history. It is wooden and has rounded corners and measures approximately 33 x 21 x 13 inches and has leather strap handles on the ends for easy carrying. One end of the strap is secured to the trunk and the other end will slide back and forth to a metal stop so that the leather handle will lay flat when not in use and pulls out for a comfortable grip when moving it. This case features a rounded wooden trim with metal(possibly brass) guards on the corners. It has 3 metal hinges to hold the lid in place and a metal trim band around the ... morelid and along the front side corners. There are several labels or stickers on this case. Some of them read: On the right end: HAMBURG-AMEWRIKA LINIE D. DEUTSCHLAND(I believe this is the Hamburg-American lines) Another one also reads HAMBURG AMERIKA LINIE A third one on that end is worn but is also from Hamburg America Line(per the logo) A forth one on that end says OBERSEE-GEPACK-NR. With a number that looks like it may be 23803 followed by S. DEUTSCHLAND HAMBURG-AMERIKA LINIE(THE LAST LINE HAS BEEN WORN AND IS MOSTLY ILLEGIBLE) The white label on the other end has a number 9. And the text is illegible but looks like it might also say Hamburg. The label on the lid is the amazing oval paper orange label that has a steam boat on the upper portion of the label. Just above the logo HAMBURG-AMERIKA LINIE and at the bottom of the white square it says NEW YORK and has a place for name, vessel and date. The outer area has text and says PRINTED IN GERMANY. The name written in ink is faint and I cannot determine the name– it looks like ANN… and the last name looks like it starts with an H. I cannot tell the name of the vessel or the date. Antique / Vintage 19.5" Dovetailed Wooden Chest / Box
This is an Antique/ Vintage 19 1/2" Dovetailed Wooden Chest/ Box. The chest has a hinged lid with scalloped edges. The base of the box measures 19 1/2" x 10 1/2" x 9 1/8" The body of the box exclusive of the base measures 18 1/2" x 9 1/2" x 6 5/8" The depth of the box on the inside is 8 1/2" The corner joints are curved finger joints. Often colloquially called dovetails(dovetails have a triangular profile whereas finger joints have parallel, horizontal edges) The box has a dark finish on the outside with a nice patina of age. The inside is unfinished. We do not know the type of wood. Perhaps you can tell from the appearance of the finished outside and the unfinished inside. The bottom of the box is made from a 1/8" thick sheet of plywood. On one photo of the inside you can see some wooden strips ... moreor shims. It is possible that the bottom was damaged and replaced and these were part of the repair. But we do not know for sure. The box has a lock but. As found, there is no key. There is what appears to be the remnant of a paper label on the back inside panel as seen. The front inside panel also had some sort of paper covering and there are remnants of this at several place. The chest was purchase in England. We assume it was probably made there. But we do not know for sure, nor do we know specifically what its age is. This is a great looking antique/ vintage chest would be a great piece of decor. And it could also serve a variety of utilitarian purposes as well! Condition The chest is overall in nice condition but there are several issues to be noted: The bottom panel may or may not have been replaced. With attendant inside support repair, as discussed above, and the box is offered as found/ as seen/ as described with respect to this issue. The box is offered as found with respect to the missing key for the lock There is a crack along the base panel on one end as seen. Marked with several arrows. ANTIQUE CARVED WOODEN CHINESE DRAGON OR LION SCULPTURE CHEST STAND SET LEGS
I believe these are to put a chest on. These are very old and look to be a Chinese Dragon but could be a lion. The top carved head and the whole top piece is one piece of wood. The legs were added, but show no screws or bolts, but are on very solid. The front leg is also carved, but the back leg is not which makes me think you would not see the back legs in whatever use these were for. They measure about 28" long and stand about 9 1/2" high. These have some wear here and there which is typical for age, nothing major, otherwise are in nice condition.These just came out of an attic and could use a good dusting. Antique Blanket Chest (wooden hinge) hand crafted, hand forged nails? 6 plank
I am not an expert in antique furniture and I will try to describe the little blanket chest to the best of my ability. The measurements are 31" X 16" X 17" The exterior of the piece show wear with nicks around the base. The top was originally a solid plank but has been repaired in the past to keep the plank from cracking more. What is so unique about this piece is the wooden hinge system it has. Clearly this piece was handcrafted. On the inside you can see the panel has been tooled maybe by hand? The pins and nails used(with the exception of the newer repairs) appear to be hand forged. The bottom is removable in two pieces not sure if the two pieces were originally joined together at one time. The piece has been oiled and no other attempts have been made to restore this. I do not know the date of this item nor do I know the ... moretype of wood used in making this chest. If anyone knows more about this piece I would love to find out more information. I acquired this at a local antique store about ten years ago and have kept it on display ever since. It is made mostly of wood. With some metal rivets and leather straps. I'm not sure when it was constructed, but it is definitely of significant age. It measures approximately 34" long by 21" wide by 24" tall. The trunk is obviously old. So it isn't in perfect condition. One of the metal buckles has come loose from one of the leather straps, for instance. SMALL ANTIQUE WOODEN TRUNK RED OFF WHITE CREAM COLOR PAINT, DESCRIPTION: We are selling this great little old trunk with red painted top and old white or cream color painted body. The piece is 9 1/2" high with the body being 19 1/2" long. 13 1/2" front to back; the lid is 20 1/4" long and 14 1/4" front to back. The inside is 6 1/2" deep and has an opening that s 16 1/4" long and 10" front to back. It has 4 old porcelain wheels attached to the bottom underside frame; the underside of the bottom panel has some printing on it in black which leads us to believe that this was a homemade piece. The underside edge of the apron has some old red paint as does the outside of the apron where the lighter paint has worn away; leads us to believe that the piece was repainted at some point but we are not sure when ... moreand the light paint definitely has some age. CONDITION: The base has some crackled paint on the bottom trims. Some scuffs and some yellowing to the off white/cream color paint. The lid has some roughness in the top back lid, the front edge has some worn/broken off pieces and lots of little holes, like something was tacked onto it, while the side edges of the top each have 2 larger holes the top inside of the lid has a few places where the lighter paint from the base is stuck to it. The paint has some wear spots and some areas of darkening, inside and outside. The original hinges are gone and there are recessed areas where they were; they have been replaces with smaller old hinges. Some areas inside have a reddish tint, could have been repainted at one time; there are also some drippings/runs of the lighter paint coming down from the top edges; we are also not sure if the lid was repainted but the paint is in good condition for the age of the box. Antique vintage wooden trunk box storage travel carry case hinged lid luggage
A small vintage travel or storage trunk measuring about 16" tall. 14" wide, and 13" deep. It has a removable wooden tray on the top on the inside, and the inside is lined with fabric. It is in good condition overall, though there are some scratches and dings to the finish, particularly a scratch on top near the handle. The latch has a hinge underneath which you have to push in to close it(so that one does not close it and lock it inadvertently) Some wooden slats have been added to the bottom, perhaps to protect it from wet surfaces.
