It is 47 inches tall. 7.5 inches square at the base and 6 square at the shaft. Overall. It is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. BEAUTIFUL SALVAGED VICTORIAN HARDWOOD ( WALNUT ?) NEWEL POST 34 INCHES
This is a gorgeous victorian newel post that was in the basement corner when I bought my home. I live in the victorian art museum area of center city Philadelphia and many of our larger homes had beautiful newel posts like these. Most of them were ripped out in the 1950s when everyone wanted to modernize. This was still in the basement along with a railing. As you can see in the photos. It has a rich beautiful patina. I think it is walnut or maybe mahogany and measures 34.50 inches high. Because it is so big and very very heavy, I am only offering LOCAL PICK-UP. NO SHIPPING! Wonderful antique newel post in walnut. Salvaged out of Ft. Madison, Iowa, and dating from the 1870s. The newel is crowned by a turned upper section, with an octagonal post below with gadrooned panels. Below, round rosettes encircle the newel and sit atop a squared off base. Highly Carved Antique Victorian Oak Newel Post Cap in Original Condition
Here's a very ornately carved cap to an oak newel post which must have come from some impressive Victorian building. This would look stunning either built into a stairway of a Victorian home or as an interesting accent piece. There are a few chips. Bumps and nail holes and it is also quite dirty. But I'll leave any cleaning to the new owner. Although beautiful as is. The original quartersawn oak finish would certainly benefit from a little oil and wax to bring out the grain. It measures 21" tall by a maximum width of about 9 1/2" and weighs in at a hefty 17 pounds of solid oak. Shipping is $16 within the US only and pick up in person is free. Good luck!

This is a sale I wish I didn’t have to do however I can no longer store them and they need to go. The condition and wood types vary. Walnut Oak and Mahogany were used. The creative reuse projects for newels are seemingly limitless. Apply a weather-resistant finish. And plant one at the end of your driveway to serve as support for a mailbox or as a signpost on which to nail your house numbers or hang a shingle. A matched set of salvaged newels can be attached to either side of an old door to make a one-of-a-kind headboard. You could also use a pair to prop up a countertop that extends beyond base cabinetry on a kitchen island or peninsula to create a bar-seating and food-service ... morearea. A single newel that's been sliced down the center can function as a pair of pilasters to flank either side of a passageway or as decorative stanchions secured to the wall to break up a long run of wainscoting. A few of the oldest and heavyset ornate newels, are almost a foot thick at the base and around 4 1/2 feet tall! Some were turned on a mechanical lathe. Producing elegant beaded shafts embossed or built up with applied carved panels. Hi this piece measures 47" tall x a base diameter of 7 1/2" Made of red oak it has a solid weight of 25 pounds. Hi for sale I have an antique old Newel Post. The post is made of red oak. Has a nice primitive look but it could be cleaned up to look better. The stain has scratches on it. The bottom has a chuck out of it. This is where it was removed from the original stair case. Hardwood newel post we believe to be walnut and from the 1880s. Its original dark stained finish is in good shape. Has very nice turnings. It was notched at the base and attached to the floor joists. Antique Solid Oak Architectural Carved Victorian Newel ? Post Column Pillar
Solid oak post or column measuring about 23 1/4" tall. The diameter of the plain end measures about 5" and the other end where the carving is measures about 7" in diameter. Some areas of the column are straight cut oak while on 2 sides there is tiger oak grain showing. This piece is unfinished. The end with the carving is flat on the bottom while the other end is concave.There is a small piece of the turned ring near the carved portion that is missing. Also there is a tight age crack extending about 2" long from the end of the plain side and some dark spots on the turned ring on the bottom. Thank you for viewing. ANTIQUE 1880's ARCHITECTURAL SALVAGE STAIR NEWEL POST Offered here is a salvaged antique newel post. Left over from a staircase I installed close to forty years ago(see bottom images) My guess would be that the wood is Chestnut. There are nicks and scratches, as well as some nail holes where handrail attached. The post measures 25-1/2" in height x 5-1/2" x 6-7/8" at square side widths. The turned parts are 5" dia. at the top and the smallest diameter is 3-3/16" Three faces have identical designs. Fourth is where railing attached; one small square broken nail remains. The piece will clean up nicely. But will require a little repair where the top is chipped. SHIPPING WEIGHT: 10 lbs. This piece was not needed to complete the work seen here. The understated body of this box newel is crowned with a dome which features a beautifully carved foliate pattern; the repeating design is also found on a convex band around the newel's midsection. This is a wonderful antique boxed newel post in walnut. Dating from the 1890’s. The newel begins with a cap with a flat top. Below, the newel post is accented with roundels, followed by a bead-and-reel pattern on the corners of the newel. The sides are ornamented with simple fluting. This box newel post is in very good antique condition, with one crack on the back of the post(pictured) and some very minor chips and dings. The newel is 56 ¼” tall and 8 ¾” wide. Antique Carved Oak Newel Post Architectural Salvage Plant Stand This is a great antique oak stairway piece out an old mansion. We think it was salvaged in the early 70’s and has been stored in a garage. It has fantastic carving and details. The Newel Post that is 26 ½ inches tall. Base is 9 ½ inches across and the top is 6 ½ inches across on the largest side. There are a couple of chipped places. One is at the very top and is about 2 ½ inches and the other is 1 ½ inches on a top rung. This newel post is quite heavy weighing 26 lbs unpacked. It is also very tall@60¼' tall. You can see by the cut outs at the bottom and by the placement marks of the prior railings. That it was installed where the stairway turned. This post could be used in another stairway that is shorter by cutting off a section at the bottom. I have shown the measurements alongside the post in the photos below. I have also shown a small section where the natural wood shows. Vintage Antique Pine Newel Post Cannon Ball Old Varnish Finish 4 3/4" x 40"
For your consideration is a vintage pine newel post. The post is 4 3/4" square x 40" tall. As shown. The post retains the original varnish with paint spatters here and there. The original configuration had hand rails coming into two sides of this post.so like an"L" There are nail holes and no varnish in these areas. There is a small chip in one of the turned rings on the ball top, as shown in the last photo. Estate fresh and in as found condition, there are dings and scratches as should be expected.
