Nice large napkins each measuring 21.5" x 22" trimmed with lace and decorated in one corner as shown. Elegant cutwork, embroidery and just above all the lovely handwork is a tiny initial embroidery"ILL" They are freshly laundered and ironed, good condition except for minor breaks in a couple of the lace edgings, very minor and a stitch or two will correct. A Lustrous ALMOST UNCIRCULATED Italian Gold Ducat struck in Venice for Doge Alvise III Mocenigo(1722-1732) He was the son of Cecilia and Alvise Michiel. From a young age Alvise Mocenigo. The third by that name to rise to the staves, entered the Venetian navy. As a young man he was an officer in the wake of the famous Francesco Morosini and participated in the campaign in the Mediterranean 1684- 1690 and then to that of 1693-1694. After the death of the famous Doge proved to be one of the few Venetian skilled commanders, and even if it could not avoid some losses to the country during the last war against the Turks, during the four years 1714- 1718, he was still respected and admired in military circles. In the following years he was one of the protagonists of the Peace of rights to these, so that the boundary line between Turkey and Venice ... morein Dalmatia established in 1721, was named its line Mocenigo. Elected doge August 24. 1722, continued the policy of neutrality of Venice.
