The top section has the name of Elizabeth. Aged ... more10 In the Year of Our Lord 1815 and the words"My God My Father and My Frend do not forsake in the end" followed underneath by a row of the family's initials. The top right hand corner has a floral basket and the letters LLGRA underneath. The central section of the linen has some really charming motifs- a casket with the intials GR in it for the king and a crown above it, a really sweet little house, stars, trees, floral motifs, two fabulous deer(stag& doe) and a sailing ship. Beneath these is a superb tree of life with Adam and Eve on each side and more family initials beneath. The linen has overall discolouration consistent with its age. Darker around the edges. The colours of the silks are good- the pastel shades being paler as seems to be the norm. There is an area of damage to the linen on the top right corner which can be seen on photo 2 and there are some small areas of black stitch work by the doe and the bottom right corner which may be repairs but I can't be sure. Condition, Pictorials Prev Stop Play Next PLEASE SUPERSIZE PHOTOS FOR BEST VIEW AND CONDITION I have sold many excellent samplers from my collection over the past few years and I rarely. If ever, describe any as"MUSEUM QUALITY" It is not a phrase I use lightly but t his exceptional needlework. Finely worked and dated 1725, cannot be described in any other way. It's an extraordinary work of art that combines the BEST FOLK ART imagery with an exceptionally early 1700's date and phenomenal condition, color& contrast. The sampler is worked in three panels in fine wools on a light colored linen ground; the linen background is closest in color to a very light gray. The upper panel includes a stylized tree with paired birds. 2 bright red floral motifs in the upper corners, ... morea small square geometric motif and the most wonderful black& white spotted dog chasing either a fox or a cat- it could be either a domestic or hunting scene. The dog has a lolling bright red tongue and a long curled tail. The middle panel contains the most whimsical imagery: a central house or building with three crosses. Two ladies within, their?pet bird in the rafters, many floral and flying motifs(my favorite is the bright pink tulip on the right) a rooster and a hen on the ground on either side of the house, two birds on the pitched roof line and above the house a terrific scene of a white cat chasing/catching a brown mouse. The lower panel is filled with a variety of motifs- birds. Floral, geometric, etc. and includes a line of numbers, initials(undoubtedly the needleworker and/or her family/teachers, etc. a large bold geometric medallion lower left and the date"1725" worked in red above a short double sawtooth"underline" The number string runs 1 through 12 and is followed by the initials: SI, PS and KS. The date 1851 is embroidered on the left edge. See pictures. It is worked on a linen material. The colors are bright. The top is alphabets and numbers. This auction features this beautiful antique Punch Paper framed"God Bless Our Home" in great condition! It measures 25 x 14 and is in an old walnut? shadow box frame. It features no missing thread and is stitched with golds/browns and white variegated thread. There is a very small random water stain above the B in Bless. Very solid frame; very beautiful piece; nicely framed. I took close ups so that each word can be looked at. Supurb Antique Child's Needlework Sampler dated 1829 by Jane Denton, Aged 10
Up for auction is a wonderful antique needlework sampler. Worked in wool on a linen ground. This piece was made by Jane Denton, aged 10, and is dated 1829. Jane's sampler is ornately worked, and features in the foreground a shepherd with his dog, a shepherdess, and a flock of six sheep all in a grassy field. At the end of this field is a red house and a windmill, and behind these is a picket fence with trees and shrubs along the fence. In the top area of her sampler Jane stitched a large urn of flowers with two little birds perched on it, and various blooming plants. In the middle section Jane stitched the poem: Our souls shall draw their heavenly breath, While Jesus finds supplies, Nor shall our graces sink to death, For Jesus never dies. I believe this is a passage from a hymn written by Rev. Isaac Watts around 1820 or so. Three little ... moreangels flank her poem, along with a heart and some flowers. The perimeter of the sampler features a lovely winding border of leaves and red flowers. All in all, Jane's stitches are uniform in tightness, and her composition is pleasing. This beautiful sampler is in remarkably good condition and it still has great color. There are no color runs or stains. There are no holes or tears in this piece. Except on the very outer edge of the border where it meets the frame. This pretty sampler is framed in its possibly original, birds eye maple veneer frame with a gold gilt liner and wavy old glass. The frame is in very good condition, although there are a few spots where its veneer is chipped. It's hard to notice, as the wood underneath is the same color. This sampler is the perfect size, measuring 11 1/2" by 16 1/2" not counting the frame, and 15 1/2" by 20 1/2" counting the frame. I have not taken the sampler out of the frame, as the back of the frame is sealed in old paper. Thanks for looking at this pretty antique sampler and good luck bidding! Please note. 1766 WONDERFUL! ANTIQUE DUTCH SILK ON LINEN CROSS STITCH SAMPLER STAG ANGELS
This is a wonderful and very old antique Dutch cross stitch sampler. Showing alphabets, crowns, a flower vase, angels and a stag, stitched with silk thread on linen fabric. The sampler has blue and white striped fabric attached to it. Which is possibly 19th century, as it seems to be attached with a sewing machine. The sampler is dated 1766 and is signed'E P' It measures approximately 15 x 10 3/4 inches or 38 x 27 cm(without measuring the striped fabric) The colors are still very bright. There is hardly any difference between the front an back of the sampler. The fabric has a few holes in it. Some tiny ones and one a bit larger. There is a stain near the top left corner. The sampler was repaired near the bottom edge, but this seems to have been done a very long time ago, perhaps even near the year that it was stitched. Antique 1852 Amish Pennsylvania Dutch Child Needlework Art Sampler Tree Hearts
From an old barn sale in Lancaster County.Pennsylvania Dutch country,while visiting Lancaster County,we happened upon a barn sale,lots of Amish items were for sale,including this wood framed needlework by 9 year old Amy,dated 1852,making this needlework 161 years old.Coloring may seem different in pictures due to room lighting at the time of photographing,but true color is in pic# 1,taken with camera flash,other pictures not taken with camera flash as to try and catch the detail of the needlework. Apparently the piece was placed in a dark green color wood frame at some unknown point in time by an unknown former owner with saw-tooth hanger on back of frame.Tape is also on the back with staples in the back of the frame to hold the needlework piece in.Needlework depicts a tree.Perhaps a family tree,with hearts,leaves and tree.See all pics for ... moredetails. This is an outstanding c1840 American dry oxblood red painted primitive frame. Beautiful original dry. Dark red surface with great patina. Excellent condition w ith great pai nt retention minor wear and a slight loss to the inner site edge at bottom left(very old loss) Slightly canted molding with a raised. Flat outer edge. Canted molding with a flat top edges. Painted sides and solid, square nailed two part frame construction with the inner frame lap jointed. Solid, well constructed frame. Unusual slightly larger size that measures 18 1/2 x 20 1/2 with a 14 1/2 x 16 1/2 rabbet. Would be amazing with a sampler that has some red in it. The colours are fabulous and that is even though they have faded over time. You only see. Just how bright they once were, when you turn the sampler over. The work has a fabric depiction of St. Eugene. Which is appliqued to the centre, with the needlepoint surrounding it. It is dated 1895 and was completed by a girl by the name of Anais Chenault. The name was once in a pink wool but it has faded to ivory over the years and is now difficult to see. It is situated at the bottom underneath St Eugene's name. The work was once within a frame because you can see the marks from where it was framed around the outside edge. It is in really great condition for its age but it does have one or two little ... moregaps in the stitches and there is a faint stain on the bottom left as shown in the last photograph. ANTIQUE FOLK ART SAMPLER BEADED NECKSTRAP RIBBON SASH OHIO 1835
Up for your consideration is this very early antique beaded ribbon or neck strap in a dated sampler form. It is made of very tiny multi colored beads. It is dated OHIO May 2 1835 and it has many symbols like trees. Chairs, houses, birds and numerous others. Also has what appears to be initials(WTVSR III) The dimension of the item is 53" long x 5/8" wide and has 8" cloth ties on the ends. It is in very good condition. There are no repairs that i can see. An unusual and early piece of beadwork. I would categorize it as a beaded sampler and it would fall into the more general category of folk art. Given the size of the piece it’s hard to say how it may have been used- too large for a hat band- it could have acted as a sash for a dress. The beads used are known as“seed beads” and are a variety which were traded with Native Americans ... morealthough I believe this to have been made by an Anglo. The style is pictorial in beadwork terms. Meaning that there is some story telling going on, was this person a furniture maker, or carpenter? Looks as though the work may have been done on a bead loom. A very intriguing and beautiful bit of work! Many early Wampum belts were monochromatic. black. Or a color with white, this piece is somewhat reminiscent of that type of beadwork. The item has been appraised at $600 retail. It would make a great addition to any collection. The sampler is unusually large, measuring: Overall. Including the original frame = 32 ¾” by 31 ¾” by slightly over 1” deep Sampler on wood stretcher = 26 ½” by 25 ½” I removed it from its frame and very lightly cleaned the frame. Which revealed some subtle painted decoration on the inside bevel. It hung in an upstairs bedroom and had remained untouched and undisturbed for generations. Geometric flowers. Colorful birds facing off one another and the alphabet created three times, combined with a delightfully folksy, somewhat naïve rendering of a lady wearing a snood, makes this sampler many times more cheerful than your average, run-of-the-mill stitchery I normally come across. You’ll like it because it’ll make you smile. Four layers of old brown paper fell away after I carefully slit it around the inner edges of the frame. None of it adhered to the frame. But remnants of two layers remain stuck to the stretcher. I did not even attempt to remove them. This is a wonderful antique romantic'love' poem sampler with a complete train also stitched at bottom. I would date it to mid 1800's. It is framed in a 19th frame under glass. Overall there are no tears or repairs. There is some thread loss possible from moths. It is all cross stitch on linen I believe. Overall the frame measures 23 1/4" x 29 1/4" The sampler itself measures 18" x 24" It is very unique having the train. Her lover was probably an railroad engineer. Antique 1793 Cross Stitch Sampler (6 1/2" x 13") Professionally Framed
This antique cross-stitch sampler. Dated 1793, includes the alphabet and numerals 1-20. Between the letters and numerals is what looks like"Q M 1777" perhaps the birthdate of the girl completing the sampler. The sampler itself is 6 1/2" wide and 13" tall, and framed is 9" x 15 1/2" It was professionally framed by Swasey's in Berkeley, California. There is a lot of wear to the lower portion of the sampler, including several holes, which fortunately doesn't affect the embroidery.

Antique Burrows Equipment Seed,Grain Probe Tester,Sampler Set,Leather Sleeves
What you are viewing is an original Antique Burrows Equipment/ J.G. Zett Seed.Grain Probe Tester,Sampler Set with there original Leather Sleeves. Pieces have some wear and aging to the sections and the leather sleeves but all displays well for there age. Some of the metal testers have rust and patina to the metal. Largest piece is a little squished on the top but could be repaired with the proper mandril and rubber mallet if you wish. top section has the name Burrows Equipment but the other two sections have G.J. Zett so I am unsure if its 2 sets that someone made into one but is still a great collection. Set measures 1 1/2in X 1 3/4in X 11 1/8in and is a nice displayable size. This lovely needlepoint sampler has been in my collection for years. It is dated Dec 12 1801 and the December is abbreviated Dez leading me to think it is european. But I don't know that for a fact. it has n alphabet, two buildings, a dog chasing a rabbit, the date, more alphabet and then a capital letter K surrounded by flowers. Alos the brown you see surroundeing the sampler is more needlepoint. It looks like a mat but it is not. Colors are wonderful. It is framed and that was probably done around the 30's to 50's. It is quite wonderful and displays beautifully. colors are true. Good Luck!

Birds hearts etc. The text at the top is: Time darks the Sky; Time brings the day; Time glads the heart; Time passed joy away; Time builds a Kingdom; Time overthrows nations; Time writes a story of its Dissolation; Time makes man rich; Time makes man poor; Time has an end when Time shall be no more. RARE ANTIQUE QUAKER SCHOOL SAMPLER, MARTHA MEREDITH 1824 , AMERICAN
A RARE AND INTERESTING EARLY 19th CENTURY SCHOOL SAMPLER THAT FOLLOWS MANY OF THE QUAKER TRADITIONS. THE SAMPLER IS WORKED ON A NATURAL LINEN WITH THE ALPHABET IN THREE STYLES AS WELL AS NUMBERS 1 TO 9. IN THE BOTTOM CORNERS WE HAVE TWO UNUSUAL BLOCKS OF BLACKWORK. A PATTERN USUALLY FOUND AS INFILL ON ELIZABETHAN TEXTILES. In the middle of the bottom we have the sewers name MARTHA MEREDITH and the date 1824. This is flanked by two black birds. The only other colour on this sampler is another bird on the left hand side and two small blocks of pattern. On the back a pencil inscription of 1907 as well as 1998 John Becher Meredith Capobianco Las Vegas NV. This may give some help identifying the sewer. This is not an English sampler. "God Bless Our Home" Antique Sampler-RARE
This is an antique motto sampler with"God Bless Our Home" It is very old. And I believe it to be Pre-1930's. The frame is in great condition and the glass is very old. There is a small bubble in the glass where you can tell how thick it is. The sampler is in very good condition, however, there is a slight yellowing on the left corner which is barely visible to the naked eye. The back is original and is wood. Under the wood, you can tell that there is newspaper. I have no idea if this is authentic or not, and don't want to mislead, but the dates on the newspaper are all from the 1800's. Delightful 19C Antique NEW ENGLAND SAMPLER, A. Farrar, WHIMSICAL FLOWER BASKET
Delightful New England Sampler circa 1830. By A. Farrar, Best Folk Art Flower Basket Please super size photos below for best views& condition report" Charming small New England school girl sampler. Dating to the 2nd quarter of the 19th century, signed simply"A. Farrar" see notes below on the Farrar family) The whimsical depiction of a small striped basket or flowerpot is the highlight of the needlework and is reminiscent of the fanciful flowers on the Canterbury, NH, group of samplers. The sampler certainly had its origins in Northern New England, most probably New Hampshire. There are a number of Anns, Annas, Abigails and Alices in the Farrar family who were born in this area in the early decades of the 19th century; it would be difficult at this time to attribute it to a specific girl. Miss Farrar stitched a delightful ... moresampler with four complete alphabets covering seven lines- each worked in a different color- and added her name"A. Farrar" at the end of the seventh line. Immediately below is the whimical floral arrangement and at the very bottom a charming"row" or border in a polychrome flame stitch design. The sampler is conservation mounted with acid-free materials and spacers have been placed in the frame to hold the fabric away from the glass. Total framed size measures about 13.25" square with a viewing area of about 11.75" square. It's interesting to note that the linen background is actually two pieces that were joined together to make the sampler. The join is horizontal. Across the middle of the sampler, and is stitched with the yellow threads from the alphabet line above. I've included photos that show front and back so that the seam is visible. A real example of"make do" when larger pieces of fabric weren't available. Farrar Family: The Farrar family were among the earliest European settlers in the colonies. Antique Paper Punch Sampler Motto Print Leaf Decorated Frame Textiles
Up for auction is an original folk art antique paper punch motto print recently found at auction in the Lancaster County. PA area. It is found in good used condition and comes in a carved walnut leaf decorated frame. The piece is embroidered on a piece of paper, and is framed in an antique frame, leaf decorated in each corner and with a gold wood liner. The motto reads as follows, I Need Thee Every Hour" It measures approximately 21" x 8 3/4" in size. The glass appears original with antique wavy glass. The wood backing is probably original as well.
