Here's a family Bible that has a copyright date of 1870. Beautiful tooled leather covers. Measures 12 1/4" tall X 10" wide and 3" thick. 5 raised bands on spine. The name SUSAN M. CONVERSE was once gilded on the front cover. Gild has been removed and covered with dye, just the shadow remains. Names are written in family pages. There is a 3" tear to upper rear hinge(4th picture) both covers have been reinforces with book take on the inside and they open and close easily. Many beautiful full page illustrations throughout. It is really old Bible however it is not marked with the age in it. I am guessing the late 1800's to early 1900's due to it has gold gilting on top of the pages. It is pretty good shape with some wear on the covering. And the binding is starting to get loose on the first couple of pages. It has over 900 engraving in it they are really nice. It was has been inscribed on the front cover to someone's daughter named Agnes as a gift. This a really good heavy bible. Up for bid is a vintage music box that holds your family's BIBLE. The box measures 11.25" long. 7.5" wide and 2.5" deep. It will hold a BIBLE that is 9" high, 6.5" wide, and 2" thick. The key to wind up the music box is in great condition and winds easily. The tune it plays, however, is unfamiliar to me. The box itself is black and is embossed to make it look like leather. It's raised trim and writing is gold and three sides are made to look like book pages. The inside is purple, felt-like material.

This bible is from sometime in the mid 1800s but we are unable to put an exact date to it. This is the pictorial dictionary of the bible. And has several hundred engravings of maps and plans on wood and steel. Printed in Philadelphia by John e potter and company. The binding of this bible is beginning to tear but all pages still atached, some of the pages are fringed and have water marks, it shows it age. However, it is still absolutely beautiful and they just don't make them like this anymore!

NEW YORK: AMERICAN BIBLE SOCIETY 1863 The American Bible Society distributed over 5 million bibles to soldiers. Slaves, civilians and prisoners of war during the years 1861 to 1865. They wanted to make sure the Union and Confederate Armies had free access to scripture during a desperate time and would make them pocket size. So they could be carried into battle. Soldiers, who were faced with their own mortality day in and day out, would lean on religion to get them through the horrors of the war. There are stories where the leather bound pocket bibles would serve as"bullet-pullers" and save the life of the soldier by hitting the bible instead. This bible was owned by Lewis Germain ... morewho joined the army as a private. Company D. One Hundred and Forty-sixth Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry. Germain was promoted to First Lieutenant and discharged at the close of war on July 8. 1865. Lewis Germain married Mary Adaline Stone on March 29. 1859 and he rented a farm in Gardner, Illinois. He owned a dry goods and grocery store for a time, and after the war went into buying and shipping stock and grain. He then served as Constable and Deputy Sheriff and was active in the Republican Party since its founding. Lewis died November 10, 1921 at the age of 86 years. The family genealogy written in this bible records the marriage of Mary and Lewis by the Reverend D.P. Hartman in Goodhope. Indiana. There is no publication date but many of the illustrations were copyrighted in 1904. There are well over 1400 pages with both Old and New Testament. There is a presentation page and an"initiation" page as well as several other pages for family sacraments. And all of them were left blank and the bible has no writing at all. I believe it to be in overall excellent condition although I may have missed a small tear/rip or stain. The binding. Front and back covers are intact with just some wear on the front cover. No major rips or tears. No visible damage just typical signs of age. There are a few spots of discoloration on a few pages. But is overall clean. Vintage/Antique Solid Wood Family Bible Book Holder Table Top Flip up Stand
This is a piece I previously bought at auction to use in my library. My move to Florida is causing me to reduce many of my collections. This is a solid wood quite old book stand. As I acquired it used and know little about the history. I'll not some points: Measures 16-3/8" wide; 11" high. Maximum of 4" when folded(can stand on its back easily) Corners are joined by mortise and tenon. The arm-since it moves to adjust to the notches-is attached by a screw. The two large pieces move by two brackets. The wood is dark. I don't think it is mahogany.it seems more like a walnut. There are a number of notches to change position.6 of them are the most practical The sides have a scroll design.as the the portion where the book is held The wood is in the same state as I bought it.just been dusted. Has some family history belonging to name of Lamb recorded on inside pages relating to marriages and deaths. This bible weighs a lot so is heavy. Antique Swedish illustrated family bible, 1905, lithograph art religion european
This HARDBACK antique bible is beautifully illustrated with black and white lithographs. Around 190 lithographs in total- 150 In Old testament; 40 in New testament. Published in Sweden by Fosterlandets Forlag in 1805. 1895 or 1905(can't determine because print is faded) Contains the full old and new testament books in Swedish. The illustrated pages are in good condition. As is the text. The pages have aged beautifully, giving the bible an added charm(please see pictures) PLEASE NOTE: Due to it's age the bible is in a delicate condition. The binding holding the pages together is relatively strong. With a few loose pages at the front of the book. However the Hardback cover is completely detached from the spine(Picture 5) I t is possible to reconnect it to the pages with archival binding tape. Antique German family Bible, 1866 vintage RARE!
Up for your consideration is a small family Bible. Printed in German. The copyright date is 1866. There are numerous notations and dates on the inside covers, typical for old family Bibles. Important dates were often noted in Bibles, such as marriages, births and deaths within the family. Please use the numerous pictures to judge the condition for yourself. I am not an expert on grading antique books. For a 150 year old book, it seems to be in excellent condition, but experts may find fault with my assessment. It is a rather small Bible, measuring approx 5 3/4" in height, no reading glasses are included, but will be needed if your eyes are like mine! It appears that the Dunlap family took over the bible after Williams death in 1902, Henry Dunlap somehow took possession of the bible and records his marriage in 1917 to Pearl McCants after crossing out all the Beattie data.
