Antique 18th 19thC Woolwork Lady Goat Social History Silkwork Sampler Tradition This is a particularly charming antique woolwork dating to the very late 18th century or early 19th century Georgian or Regency era. Antique textiles are particularly special due to their fragility and the social history or'herstory' that is behind them. In all likelihood this piece would have been created by a young lady as an accomplishment and'sensible' recreational activity to keep her focused on'ladylike' pursuits. This sweet piece depicts a young girl tending to a goat. It is in fair condition for its great age and still has some good colouring although it will be a little faded from its original condition. Which has been worked in wool thread The original thread is a faded red and green The background has been joined and EXTENSIVELY darned and repaired- patchy and quite large hatching. These repairs are truly not the work of a professional but probably a member of the family who inherited this handwork In a light silk. They are not invisible The alphabet. Worked twice in capitals at the top of the panel, correct for the period, missing the J(and the U? has sections inked IN This practice of inking in is continued most noticeably across the number section- some of the numbers are in stitched in blue but most have been painted in as have the red numerals The sampler then opens out into larger letters. Several different crown motifs, a deer, and the signature has been so darned that I am not able ... moreto decipher all the letters.Elizabeth.the date is still quite clearly visible on bottom LH corner- 1783 This is not a museum exhibit but clearly someone cherished it. Maybe as an heirloom, maybe just as a decorative wall hanging They lovingly repaired it. Framed, for at least 100 years I might dare suggest that it has become a more resonant example of folk art than when first created because of the wear. The embroidery thread is missing in very few places, and the linen has held its color with minor stains and one stain the size of a quarter. Measuring 15" by 19" This is a lovely 1800's German house blessing sampler. It is a blessing motto for a home that in olden days was very common to hang in the entrance or hallway of homes. I do not know what it says. It was stitched on a fine punched paper There are Edelweiss and ferns surrounding an angelic celluloid Cherub. The stitching is beautifully done in burgundy tan colors. The paper background is a soft tan color. I was having difficulty photographing the details of this sampler due to the glass over it. The photos with a tan background are the true color. I am pretty sure this is antique just by looking at the frame and mounting with nails. Though I am not positive it is pre 1930. Very nice condition, not much faded, under glass in wooden frame, about 14x12 inches in frame. If you win and only want the material not the frame and glass the shipping could be much less(if you wish to remount yourself) but it is in nice shape both the frame and glass. Weighs 2 pounds before packing, but I will insure it because of the glass. The poem is actually the first verse of a Charles Wesley hymn from the late 18th century I believe. Probably meant for hanging in a child's bedroom.

Offered is a vintage or antique AUTHENTIC MINIATURE KILIM RUG SAMPLER TAPESTRY TEXTILE showing several different weave shapes. Including areas where woven bands of color are separated from one another(see photos) Colors are taupe beige, maroon burgundy red, coral, turquoise blue, and green. I think it is Turkish Caucasian, from about 1930's. It was definitely all woven by hand. Made from wool with cotton warp threads. This flatweave measures about 9 1/2" x 16" 24cm x 41cm) including the fringe. One end is not quite as wide as the other end. I would rate it as being in quite good old condition commensurate with its age. But there is some age toning, and a few small, light spots. In my photos you'll be able to see these details. Antique Alphabet ABC Sampler- Circa 1830 A classic antique and fine example of early 19th century needlework. This alphabet sampler was likely a practice sampler for a young Victorian girl. It is simple and was worked in black thread cross stitch on plain linen. The alphabet was repeated several times. With different lettering styles. One alphabet does not have the letter J and the simple border suggests this may be a transitional or cross over sampler and was probably stitched sometime around 1830. The frame is a simple black and grey wood frame. Pictures taken under glass. The paper backing was taped to the frame; I don't know what the mat is. Measures about 17 1/4 inches x 18 1/2 inches; the opening is about 17 inches x 18 1/4 inches. Condition is excellent for this type of needlework although I have to mention there is some darkened ... morearea of the fabric near the top(too light to photograph well) Re-matting onto acid free paper should correct any further darkening. This is a large and stunning antique Dutch cross stitch sampler. Showing religious symbols, flower vases and a deer, embroidered in colorful silk stitches. The sampler dates from somewhere around 1800. I have seen a similar deer on a sampler that was dated 1797. It measures approximately 18 3/4 x 19 inches or 47.5 x 48 cm. The embroidery is in good condition. Considering the age of the sampler. Some light colored stitches have been lost(for example the light stitches of the deer) but this is not very visible. The colors are still very vibrant for a sampler of this age. The fabric has some very minor staining on it. Has one small hole in it(near the mouth of the deer) and one repair(near the small deer in the bottom right corner) Some of the dark stitches have run a little bit. Fixed to linen with board backing. The sampler is worked in a silk-like thread on linen ground. In cross stitch throughout. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case in four fonts. Verse reads'Tho plunge in ills, and exercised by Care Yet never let the noble Mind despair For blessings always wait on virtuous deeds And tho a late. A sure reward succeeds' Meandering floral border with a good set of motifs, including birds, flowers, fruit trees and potted flowering plants. Colours dark green. Antique Framed Needlepoint Sampler Picture * Little Girl with Umbrella & Duck
Antique Needlepoint& Frame Little Girl with Umbrella& Duck This is an antique needlepoint picture of a little girl. Walking in the rain with her umbrella and a little duck at her feet. The frame is also antique Tramp Art and is triple layered(wood, metal and velvet) and has the original, wavy glass. In the frame. This piece measures approx 12-1/2 inches long, 10-3/4 inches tall, and 2 inches thick. The needlepoint is absolutely precious! It appears to be in EXCELLENT condition. The colors are all still beautifully vibrant. The stitching is EXQUISITE! It is covered in the back with a heavy paper backing that is actually tacked to the wood frame. I have NOT removed the backing to examine the needlepoint because the backing is in poor condition and would surely disintegrate. The gold color frame is made of wood. Metal and velvet and ... moreis in its original condition. The glass is wavy and has a scratch across it. On the back, there was a very fine wire for hanging but it is broken. The frame has many chips to the wood and the paint but is still nice and solid. The second layer is gold color metal and has many places where it is discolored. Antique miniature book, Great Exhibition souvenir, sampler patterns, circa 1851
A miniature book with decorated card covers consisting of sixteen squared off patterns. Folded in a concertina, for samplers. Probably sold as a souvenir of the Great Exhibition of 1851, which took place in London's Hyde Park. Some are emblems. Some are different fonts and some are patterns. The last four. Which are printed in green, consist of one entitled: The Crystal Palace Exhibition 1851" and a picture of the palace. The next is entitled"Souvenir" with a graphic pattern below, then one with a central cow and rural objects. The final one with the Prince of Wales feathers and a squared off thistle. Rose and shamrock for Scotland, England and Ireland. Condition- good. With the expected wear and appears to have lost two ties which would have been secured from the back inside cover. Sweet Primitive Simple Antique Sewing Sampler M.R. 1901 I’m still listing some items from last week’s estate sale and auction. And I had wonderful luck at this weekend’s flea market- some really really unique items, you don’t want to miss! You know. I don't know alot about linens, especially samplers, but I'm calling this a sewing sampler in my title because that's what it appears to be, to me. Measuring 12 1/2" by 13 1/2" it is done on linen with a comvination of machine and hand sewing. The only colors of thread used are a navy blue, and a cream that is the color of the linen. As you can see in my photos, there are 9 squares on the piece seperated by stiches in the blue thread. The center square has the hand embroidered message, M. R. 1901. The second and ether squares have patches of the linen hand sewn onto the base ... morepiece. The eighth on has an almost"L" shape stitched in the center. The sixth square has a pretty blue and white check material sewn to the top of the base material- it has zig-zag stitching all around the border. Now, in all the other squares- I have no idea what to call the little rectangles in the centers. They look like little rug patterns to me. For the life of me, though, I can't figure out how they were made- were they machine stitched? Please supersize and see what you think- I bet you know more about this piece than I do. It is in excellent condition overall. It's been folded for a long time and could use a good press. There's light carmel colored marks all over the piece- like foxing on the pages of a book from age- not sure what you call them on linen, but there's small spots, and larger areas of it. It's easier to see them from the back, so please supersize photo 17, and I'm showing you a close up of one lager area in photo 18. They are light enough, that I wouldn't touch the piece, but I know some of you know how to get these out. I think it is just such a sweet old piece with a story to tell. Totally ready for your frame! Early Antique Sampler dated 1856
Check out my!Be sure to add me to your! Thank you for stopping. This sampler is dated 1856. It also has in the center IHS. There are also some letters underneath. It is in excellent condition and the only flaw I see is seen in pic#5 which are 2 small discolored dots on the back edge. I see no loss of threads and the colors are bright and clear. The material appears to be linen and the thread appears to be heavier possibly wool. I have seen this type of material before and I have seen it on German stitcheries. The edging has been meticulously folded over and has 2 handstitched rows of hemming. Very tiny stitches. I tried to get a photo of it.It is absolutely beautiful with all the designs. Vintage Antique Cross Stitch Sampler, Framed Under Glass
Vintage Sampler. Cross stitch, Framed under glass. This is a very old cross stitch piece framed in a dark wooden frame. The frame is wooden and has either flowers for shamrocks carved around the edge and has a couple dings. The cross stitch piece is in brown, black, blue and pinks and says The Glory of the House is Hospitality. It is done free style– not from a pattern. The back says“Mother Jewell, made by her around'80, which would be 1880 by the look of the piece) about $55, old in frame” some of it is hard to read due to fading.
