This is a relic of the True Cross. Vraixe Croix. It measures 1 1/2" long. Including the bale, and 1 1/8" wide. On the front is written SANCTUS CRUCE DOMINUS JESUS CHRISTE, Latin for Holy Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ The wax seal and threads are perfect. On the back in black ink is written 326 and 1923. 1923 is the year. And 326 is an identification number. This rare relic comes from the estate of a French Archbishop. Who had an extensive relic collection. The family requested that his name, Diocese/city NOT be made public, although I will give this information to the relic's new custodian, along with a short biography. Beautiful folk art cross with a hidden compartment in a box at the center. I believe it may be from Mexico.But I am not certain of this. It measures 9 1/2 by 7" and the box,which may be silver,is 1 3/8" The cross is black clay or ceramic I believe,but it is hard like stone. It is inlaid throughout and the box also has a stone. The box,which is empty,could have been made to hold a relic or other religious object. The condition is excellent,although the box is tarnished. Antique Italian micromosaic cross slides open for relics. This exceptional piece is from Rome. Italy circa 1900. In addition to having exquisite mosaic work, it also slides open to reveal a compartment for relics. It opens by unscrewing the loop at the top of the cross.There are two holes in the mosaic where a crucifix was most likely attached at one time. This is a vintage Catholic Reliquary Crucifix with cloth relics of various saints. Including one of Pope Pius X, in very good condition. It’s metal with black wood inserts behind the Christ Figure. The metal. Wood, Figure and Titulus Crucis(INRI plaque above Figure) all show ware consistent with its age. There are numerous tiny hairline scratches thoughout the surface. They may not all be noticeable in the photos due to the reflective surface. Also some tarnish and tiny nicks. Inside are relics of six individuals under paper labels. The labels read as follows: Conradi a… may have more letters after the“a” but if so. They are not in view) Viktoriae Ursula Benedicti… may have more letters. Not in view) Pii Pp. X. Around these are decorative gold-gilt paper“buttons” as well as beads and paste“stones” in clear and red, mounted in the same type of gilt bezels as the relics. These are all visible in the photos so please look closely as the photos are part of the description. The backing material behind it all is a red cloth. In the center is a scalloped-edge bezel, gold-gilt paper, filled with wax. There may have been something stuck on top of the wax at some time but it is now missing. The screw that holds the Crucifix closed at the bottom is a little bent(see photo) but it doesn’t interfere with screwing/unscrewing it. It is unmarked. Most of these. RARE GERMAN ANTIQUE CATHOLIC RELIC RELIQUARY CRUCIFIX CROSS WITH SEVEN SAINTS Description A wonderful antique German reliquary crucifix. The crucifix itself is silver plated on brass with applied black wooden panels to the front cross arms and the body of Christ in brass. Swivels open sideways to reveal the relics and names of seven saints. Stamped GERMANY to back of crucifix. Obviously a piece of great age; silver plating has mostly worn away and there is a vacant hole to the top where I believe a screw fitting was once applied. Stays closed fine but easily replaced if desired. Measurements: 2.5" by 1.5" Weight: 26.08gms.
