George Baker(b. 1781) and his wife Barbara Hollinger, as well as others mentioned in the records, are buried in the graveyard at The Mummerts Meeting House in Hamilton Township of Adams County PA. This Church of the Brethren meeting house is a little south of East Berlin, PA, just off Route 194. George Baker(1749-1805) was the son of George Baker. Who was one of the original residents of East Berlin. The elder George willed his 285 acres to his three sons, John, George and Daniel on 8/3/1770. George Baker owned 309 acres of land in Berwick Township and had named it"Baker's Garden" This land was acquired on 5/31/1766. I only opened the Bible. Just enough, to see the inside first few pages to make sure it had no writing or markings and to see the date. I found no writing or markings to the pages. I do find a light red mark on the front cover near the right edge. I took a picture of the mark but you can just barely see it in the picture. It may come off but I did not try. The mark must have been on the Bible when it came from the publisher because there was no hole in the plastic and it was there when I slide the Bible from the plastic. That charter was the center of many violent attacks. But under it Cambridge printing became so firmly established as to withstand the jealousy of the medieval London stationers and the dangers inseparable from the changing political and religious views of successive sovereigns. The ... moreissue of the Authorized Version of the Holy Bible in 1611 was not immediately followed by the printing of this famous Version at Cambridge. For awhile Barker. The printer to the King, was responsible for every copy printed, and his first folio edition of 1611 was looked upon as the only available standard of the text as it came from the Translators. But this first folio of 1611 was known to contain many serious misprints, some of which were corrected in the second folio edition of the same year; and in this second folio a number of fresh errors occurred. It became quite obvious as time went on that if the production of Bibles were left to a printer uncontrolled by any learned body, however excellent such printer might be from the purely technical point of view, the risk of degrading the work of the Translators would be very great. At Cambridge, steps were taken to collate the various issues and, with the aid of scholars of the University, some of whom had probably taken part in the actual work of the 1611 translation, to set up a new and authoritative standard of the Authorized Version of the Bible. 1860 HAND PAINTED ILLUMINATED FRONTISPIECE LEAF from a FAMILY BIBLE. This frontispiece leaf was hand painted and illuminated on a blank prelim page of an 1802 BIBLE owned by the HARDY FAMILY of Hampstead. England. The leaf measures 5.5” x 9” It has been disbound but is still sewn at spine together with the 1802 Bible’s title page and a few pages of the Bible’s Preface. The names. Dates, and information on this gorgeous one-of-a-kind leaf are(some words painted legibly large, some almost hidden in the lovely painted ribbons and decorations) JOSEPH HARDY/ Born May 16. 1788; MARY CLARKE SOUTHARD/ Born May 29. 1790; JOHN FORBES HARDY/ Born at Hampstead Oct 24th 1816. But overall the illuminated leaf is gorgeous, and the gold stands out tangibly. The backside of the leaf and the facing title page of the bible are stained and darkened from where the paint bled through. JOHN FORBES HARDY is a relatively obscure ARTIST from HAMPSTEAD. ENGLAND, who was active as a painter from 1847 to 1874. One of his better known works is believed to be of a view of“Hampstead Heath” I do not know.
