New York: American Bible Society, Instituted in the Year 1816. 1849. There is an inscription. It was given by an aunt to her niece in 1849. I am not even going to try to tell you the names. As I cannot read the aunt's handwriting. I can read the inscription: May this be your guide through life. And hopefully it was. It is in bad condition. The cover has badly bumped corners. Click on the image for a detailed view. This is a leaf of early printing from a Biblia Latina. Book of Isaiah Chaopters 37-41. Printed at Lyons by Joannis Crispini in 1539. This is a close copy of Jacques and Jean Mareschal's Lyons Bibles of 1525. It is also closely related to Jacob Sacon's Bibles. Crispini, originally of the French/ Netherlands province of Artois printed for a time in Lyons before fleeing religious persecution and opening a press in Geneva in 1548. He died of the plague in 1572. The leaf measures 340 x 240 mm. in totality and contains 70-lines of gothic type printed double column in Latin with 4-line historiated letters beginning each chapter. It is a Royal Octavo Stereotype Edition Vol. II published in 1833 by B. Waugh and T. Mason for the Methodist Episcopal Church, New York. This 1015 page bible shows cover wear.
