19thC framed antique sampler in silk & wool by Sarah Ann Love
This is a very pretty 19thc sampler in silk& wool cross stitch on linen by Sarah Ann Love aged 10. Mostly the colours are very fair but a couple of lines are at present illegible as they have faded- notably the first few letters after the age 10- where you would hope to find a date- at a guess it is around 1830/40) perhaps they might be a bit clearer on the back but it is framed& we did not wish to take it apart. The sampler amazingly clean& with just one slight discolouration to the top right on the letter' Z' There are flower baskets. Crowns, lions& peacocks on trees on the bottom part& a full& readable alphabet& numbers to the top. A nice collectors piece in an antique frame which looks like rosewood but could be faux grained- the glass is also antique with the usual lovely little bubbles& imperfections& ... morethere is a gilded slip. The there are some old filled woodworm holes& a few dings to the frame but it is still a nice period piece that is ready to hang. Apologies for postage cost but could be unframed& sent without it for less costly alternative. Size approx. 15.5inches x 14inches incl. frame. Unusual 19th C alphabet & pictoral banner antique sampler
Offered without reserve is this rather uncommon antique sampler that is unsigned and undated and. Insofar as I can tell, made with both silk and wool threads. If I had to guess I'd say mid to late 19th C since that seems to be the vintage of the frame. Uncommon, of course, are its dimensions: Framed she measures 29 3/8" by only 6 3/4" wide. And the frame does appear to be original to the pice(notice some small loss to the veneer at the bottom two corners) Again, there is no reserve but buyer pays $14 for domestic USPS shipping(and wile I will guarantee the sampler, and will do my est to protect the glass, I cannot guarantee the glass on such a long piece)

Beautiful Antique Victorian Berlin Woolwork Sampler 13"X22" / 33X56cm
I found this in a thrift store in Billings. Montana. It was in a nice frame with cardboard backing. There was a sticker on the back from a framing shop in Denver, Colorado. I know little about this sort of needlework but my best research tells me it is a Berlin Woolwork sampler probably dating from between 1850 and 1900. From my smoke-free home. Please ask questions and I'll reply as quickly as I can. I will do my best to answer your questions to your satisfaction. This auction is for the sampler as-is as portrayed in the attached photos. There is some staining to the fabric and there are a few places where the stitching is loose. There seems to be one hole as best as I can see. JEAN PIRRIE 18th CENTURY SCOTTISH BAND SAMPLER dated 1792 Antique needlework
A classic late 18th century Scottish band sampler worked in fine coloured wools on a natural linen ground. We have a total of four alphabet styles worked over12 bands with each starting with a capital flat toped A. Between each band a border or stitch pattern forming a line. The bottom of the sampler has the sewers name and date JEAN PIRRIE 1792. Above this a large number of pairs of initials representing her family the main ones being AP& IP either side of IC probably her mothers maiden initials. Above these are a series of crowns. It is difficult to make out the name of the child that finished it but it looks like Janet Haldane but I could be mistaken, It is in a modern frame. It is worked in shades of red and green. I can see no holes or damage to the canvas. Some of the stitch detail has worn away with age. It has the alphabet in large and smaller letters, the numbers 1 to 10, trees and flowers at the bottom it has what appears to be Janet Haldane and the date 1799 It is clean without staining and the colours are bright. 15.00 Here is a fantastic early 19th century finely stitched framed needlework sampler. The stitches are so tiny and fine and include a lovely motto surrounded by trees. Flowers, birds, butterflies and dogs. All are encompassed by a spectacular complicated border and are executed on linen. This rare masterpiece is signed by Sophia Ringrose Aged 10 years and is dated Sep. 27 1809. The wood frame is at least vintage and probably antique and is professionally framed by Boots framing dept. of Boots pure drug co. L.T.D. The condition is very good to excellent considering the age and fragility of the piece, with very minor discoloration and a few tiny and hard to see holes or moth bites. No reserve. This is really beautiful. 1800's Antique German paper punch needlework sampler. This has a religious saying although I was unable to make out all of the words. It is beautifully done with Christ in the midst of the sampler. This appears to be all original right down to the tag on the back of it. The frame is made of wood and is still in quite nice condition. The needlepoint portion of it is in remarkable shape as well. The back is original but may need a few tacks to put it in tight again. I did not dare want to touch it as it is such an old piece. Please note photos for overall condition. This will need a new wire for hanging. Antique Sampler by Catharine Miller 1852
Estate sale find. Up for auction is this beautiful sampler by Catharine Miller done in 1852. The piece is framed and has been for some time which has preserved this item very well. I suspect the frame is Victorian and as you can see it is in need of some repair. The piece itself does have some damage along the bottom for which I have provided photos. Please note I have not taken this piece out of the frame nor have I cleaned the frame. Items such as this are better left to the buyer to handle. I took the photos outside in natural light so you can see some shadowing. I had an opportunity to speak with the great-great-great granddaughter of Ms. Miller who didn't know much about Catharine accept that she did this piece before she died at age 27. ANTIQUE VICTORIAN SCOTTISH WOOLWORK SAMPLER - BERTHA ESSON 1898 - THISTLE BORDER
A wonderful large Victorian Scottish sampler embroidered in coloured Berlin wools by Bertha Esson when she was 12 years old. Because of her unusual surname I have been able to find Bertha's records which tell us she was a farmer's daughter born in Strathdon. Aberdeenshire. Her birth year was 1886 which means that she completed this sampler in 1898. She embroidered alphabets, family initials and many colourful motifs, surrounded by a border of thistles. The sampler is in good. Clean condition with a little fading to the colours(see photo) There are nail holes around the edge which will not show when the piece is framed. REMARKABLE 18th CENTURY ANTIQUE SAMPLER ELIZABETH BREGLES 1746 WESTAUINGFIELD
A remarkable Mid 18th Century band sampler in very fine coloured wool. That includes at the bottom a pictorial panel of a bird in flight with numerous flowers against a patterned panel ground. each flower worked in a different stitch to give texture to the image. The sampler shows so much more than this though. It starts with a variety of border patterns in different stitch types followed by the alphabet in both capital and lower case letters, we then have details of the sewer, although all does not read well. Each word is worked within its own box and although some( few letters) have some stitch loss not can be read with certainty. Sorry to say her surname and where she lived do not seem right to me. ANTIQUE SCHOOL SAMPLER - ALICE WEVERS WEAVERS 1839 - WALSINGHAM NORFOLK DIALECT
A charming primitive early Victorian school sampler embroidered by Alice Wevers or Weavers when she was 11 years old in 1839. Alice lived in Walsingham in Norfolk and has embroidered her S's back to front. The word"Solid" is spelled in an unusual way as"Solard" which reflects Alice's Norfolk dialect. I have traced Alice's records and found her on the 1841 census living in a household with no others of that surname. So her parents are unknown. She never married and worked as a servant and nurse, leaving over £300 in her will when she died in 1912. The verse is from a hymn written by Mary Masters in the early 18th century. Tis religion that can give Sweetest pleasure while we live Tis religion must supply Solid comfort when we die. It is also embroidered with two naive urns& tulips. It is English in origin and would date to the early 19th century and the Regency or Georgian era. The work is a depiction of a young lady in the Romantic tradition. She is by the coast and in the background you can see a ship sailing away from the port. This may suggest that the girl who made this work had a personal connection to someone at sea. Antique textiles are particularly special due to their fragility and the social history or'herstory' that is behind them. In all likelihood this piece would have been created by a young lady as an accomplishment and'sensible' recreational activity to keep her focused on'ladylike' pursuits. This Antique Grain Sack Needlework piece is in excellent condition. It is from an estate sale in Northern New Jersey and was found well stored in a trunk with other quilting material. The frame was falling apart and has been removed. This is a piece of rough cotton. With 4 yellow stripes up both sides. It has been stretched over a piece of cardboard and laced with the yellow twine from the feed bag. It measures 4" x 11" and has a Hand Stitched Sampler style layout. Antique Dated 1885 Stag Deer Cross Stitch Sampler Mat Bucks County Pennsylvania Estate A neat piece that we found from a Bucks County Pennsylvania estate. There's a stag buck in the center and it's dated 1885. 6 or other. Couldn't make out the last number. Also initialed by maker E.G. The work is done on a brown burlap type fabric or other. The cross stitching is blue and hand sewn. Has a scalloped crocheted edge in blue also. The back has fabric. It measures 37 x 29 inches. Not sure what this piece was made for. Either to hang as a wall display. Possibly a floor rug mat, something just for show or fancy they call pieces like this. It was folded for many years in a trunk. Along the fold line the fabric has worn and tears. Also part of the scalloped edge there's wear and some holes. It has an overall darkening from age. An early sampler possibly very late 18th or very early 19th Century by MARY VERNON from BRAILSFORD DERBY. Across the top we have the alphabet in first lower case letters followed by two different styles of upper case, the second with a flat top usually associated with Scottish samplers. We then have a short verse Come never seem to Mind it.followed by the sewers details across the middle. The bottom half has two wonderful large Parrots or eagles both apparently eating large red cherry's. Above these three panels of pattern work. Across the base flowers trees and small birds fill the space. The large central flower having another bird perched on top. There would seem to be a number of related Mary Vernon's living in Brailsford a small brick built village in Derbyshire over the period. Size 10 x 13 inches; 25 x 33 cm. Antique Sampler in needlepoint dated 1847
This is a beautiful example of a mid 1800's sampler. It is mounted in a beautiful gold frame with new backing as shown. This is ready for your wall. This is rare in that the woman who spent weeks sewing it to honor her sister Charlotte who died in October 1847. Most are signed and dated by the artist.The actual date of creation is not exactly known but probably in 1850's. I found this at estate sale so will let it go with low start. Up for auction is a wonderful Sampler done by Elizabeth Eden. Dated April, 13, 1839. It is from my Father-in-Laws estate and hung in his bedroom for many years. hr was a collector of Shaker and Mission. The size is 14x17 and is nicely framed. There is the Alphabet and numbers 1 thru 7 across the top. In the upper middle is a wonderful prayer/saying: The Lord my pasture shell prepare And feed me with a Shepherd scare His prefence shell my wants supply And guard me with a watchful eye My noon day walks he shall attend And my midnight hours defend Across the bottom is Elizabeth Eden Dated April 13. 1839 In addition there are trees. Unusual set of 7 antique cream linen sampler doilies featuring silk embroidery in the form of stylized church buildings. A flowering tree and flowers. The embroidery consists mainly of crewelwork and satin stitch. There are initials at the top and the number 53. Which I am certain relates to the date of 1853, judging by the style and theme. These were found with a number of very old linens during my recent trip to England. In very good condition with a few old stains ~ one of the edges has been oversewn. This is an exquisite antique 19th century family crest handmade patch. it is very large and has wonderfully ornate detailing. the two center pieces are made from velvet but have worn over the years. it is also trimmed with gold leather that is still in tact. has nice gold thread and is framed with a newer gold gilt ornate wooden frame. it sits over a maroon felt. the patch measures 8 by 6 1/4 inches. the frame measures 11 by 13 inches. rare patch. ANTIQUE GEORGIAN SILKWORK SAMPLER 1826 - RHODA COOMBS - FROME SOMERSET
A fine antique Georgian sampler embroidered in fine coloured silks by Rhoda Coombs in 1826. Rhoda has embroidered a wonderful verse from a Wesley hymn: TEACHER. Guide of young beginners, Let a child approach to thee, Thee who cam'st to ransom sinners, Thee. Who diest to ransom me. Into thy protection take me, Full of goodness as thou art. After thine own image make me. Make me after thine own heart. It is also finely embroidered with a floral border and a scene of a farmhouse by a river. Rhoda is a rare name for the Georgian period so she was quite easy to research. Coming from a Somerset farming family. Rhoda lived, married and had a family in the Frome area. She was born in 1816 so was 10 years old when she made the sampler. It is in fairly good condition. The lettering being rubbed but still legible. There is also a neat cut in the ... moresampler above the words"young beginners" see photos) which would hardly show when mounted and framed. The edge of the sampler is worn which would be covered by a frame. The whole sampler measures 15 by 13 inches(38.5 by 33 cm. When framed the visible sampler will measure about 14.5 by 11.75 inches(37 by 30 cm. I guarantee that this is a genuine antique sampler. You can zoom into the photos for more detail. This is a very nice antique paper punch sampler that says What is Home without Mother. It is in very nice shape and measures 22.75 inches wide and ten inches tall. 1830 Adam and Eve Sampler by Margaret Pollard DATE Regency. Dated 1830 DESCRIPTION 1830 Adam and Eve Sampler by Margaret Pollard. Framed in a heavy old wooden frame with lovely patina and rippled. Old glass. Lovely old gilt mount beneath glass. Chipboard and brown paper backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering strawberry border. Colours greens, cream, gold, blues and browns. Verse across the top reads'These words spake Jesus and Lifted up his eyes to heaven And said father the hour is come glorify thy son that thy son may also glorify thee As thou hast given him Power over all flesh that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him JOHN chapter XV11. Verse 1.2 The verse across the bottom reads Its fragrance will depart And youth must lose its Strength And Joy And Freshness ... moreof the heart Then let our youth to christ our Lord In all its Prime be give And thou it Fade and die on earth He'll make it bloom in heaven' Signed and dated'Margaret Pollard Works finished October 9th 1830 In the 25th Year of her age' A good set of motifs. Including Adam and Eve either side of a tree laden with fruit, birds, a snake, large urns with flowering plants and intricate borders of motifs above and below Adam and Eve scene. CONDITION Generally Good. No holes. The gold threads in the middle section appear to gleam in good light. Some colour bleeding across the bottom. Pale brown patchy staining across the top and down left hand side. The lovely old frame has some wear commensurate with age but appears very sturdy and compliments the sampler and gold mount beautifully. Dimensions- 261/2 inches long and 22 inches wide.

MARY ANN OLDFIELD, REMARKABLE ANTIQUE SAMPLER by girl aged 6 C.1835
I personally feel any needlework completed by a6 year old girl is remarkable. And this antique sampler is no exception. Worked in a traditional band style she has worked the alphabet three times and numbers 1to 12 with a different stitch type between lines. after the last large Z we have a Robin bird(white breast) and a large flower. The last line having her details MARY ANN OLDBURY Aged 6 years. unfortunately she has not dated her sampler but I would think circa 1820-40. This style of samplert one would expect from a girl of at least 8 years old. From where it was brought a possible date would be 1835. A Mary Ann Oldbury is recorded as having been born in Shropshire in 1829. Condition untouched. Could do with a good clean, retains its original pink backing cloth. 12 x 16 inches. 30.5 x 40.5 cm.

Frame size approximately 11" x 23" Nice frame with board on back held in place with square nails; has remains of paper tape. A very nice authentically old piece. Ready to hang. Because of glass and thick, sturdy frame this is a heavy piece weighing a little over 3lbs. Please s ee all photo.s for best description. My 1st photo. has what looks to be wear in the lower center of piece. But this is not accurate; this is just where the camera caught strange lighting. Also.
