Adopts Them For His Own. Upon research I have discovered this verse is taken from a poem written by John Henry Newton(1725-1807) who was an English anglican clergyman. It was re-published by William Gadsby(1773-1844) in a hymbook titled"A Selection Of Hymns For Public Worship" Better known as Gadsby Hymns. After consulting an expert. They thought it was most likely english and dates to the 1st half of the 19th century. It appears to be handwoven linen with silk embroidery thread. This piece is filled with beautiful fiqures& designs. Beneath the verse is a center tree with 6 birds perched on branches. 16 flying insects/butterflies. 3 birds in flight with insects in their beaks. A flower& leaf border. Smaller trees, flower filled urns, additional birds, critters, foliage& borders. Needlepointed in colors of browns. Yellow, shades of blue& greens, tan, black& cream. It measures approx. 15" x 15" and includes what I believe to be the original frame with wooden back. There is a backer paper board between the sampler& the back of the frame and it bears the design of the sampler itself. The girl/woman who embroidered this piece was named Mary Corner. Her name is needlepointed in the lower corners. There is no date embroidered. There is discoloration around the border. The fabric itself is very sheer. stiff and light. Which depicts an altar, surrounded by birds, urns of flowers, and a nice blue and spring green border. I bought it from an East Coast dealer and I believe it is American, although I can't be absolutely sure. The date appears to be 1852, although there are a few missing stitches in the 5, so it could possibly be 1892. Also included in the design are the initials"BD" and 3 additional designs including an 8 pointed star, a sort of fleur de lis, and what looks like the beginning of another border in the upper right corner. The colors of this sampler have remained vibrant and bright with no significant fading. I bought the sampler unframed and placed it in a nice old frame in black with rust colored velvet on a dark green mat. The piece measures about 17 3/8" long and 15 5/8" tall including the frame. It is in nice antique condition with a tiny bit of wool thread loss, a bit of discoloration to the fabric, and some expected wear to the frame. For your consideration. I am offering the beauties shown in the pictures above. At an estate sale, I was told they are vanity scarves, maybe sampler dresser scarves. They were displayed on an antique vanity. It seems with all of these, they would have been more suited for a sideboard since there are 12 total. Maybe they were used on the sideboard and the dinner table. Please see the information I posted in the'item condition' Although most of them look like the pictures I have posted. This an Scottish antique sampler measuring approximately 42cms by 42cms. It is dated 1823 and was sewn by a Susanna Young aged 9. She has sewn birds. Trees, animals, her house and a verse. Also her name and date with thistles on either side. The sampler is in good condition with no holes or damage. There is some brown staining towards the middle but when the sampler is framed it probably won't be as noticeable. Posted with

In a gold coloured Oxford frame, with brass fittings to the corners(as shown in the photos) The righting is in English it reads May the giver and the receiver meet in heaven. It dates from the late 19 th century. It has been sewn with red and various green embroidery silk threads(they are faded) on a card background. Unusual antique embroidery S initial sampler type roses stitched vintage old
Unusual and interesting old embroidery item Wool worked on coarse linen. I'm unsure what this may be, it has two panels one has a central wreath of leaves surrounding a capital S. Pink roses within the frame. The other panel has six rows of pink and red flowers between lovely blue lines. It is the wrong shape for a cushion or seat. Perhaps it was intended to cover a book or album? Any ideas? There is a piece of the linen cut away at one corner. Otherwise it is in good nick, there is a tiny hole at one edge of the linen backing. I'm not an expert so if you have any questions do ask. Someone's very painstaking work from long ago. Very shabby chic, would be lovely framed or made into something. Nice present for a collector with an S initial.

This is a old grain sampler about 62 inches long. I don't see a maker name on it. It has 7 holes each has a 5 inch opening.The main barrel is about 1 1/2 inches across the handle is a little thicker. I didn't try to polish it but i'm sure it would polish up nicely if you wanted. Its all brass but the inner tube is steel it has tarnish surface rust.

Antique Needlework Sampler: c1840 by Selina Spring
Selina Spring stitched this fine piece in the month of November when she was ten years old. Her name is so adorable! Cheeky little Selina did not want her husband(most likely) to know the year of her birth. At one point the year had been stitched in. But decidedly. she was a lady who cared not to reveal her true age. I suppose we can all relate to that. This is common in samplers and I find it so endearing and love the fact that it probably worked! Was she getting too old to marry? Was she afraid of being labeled a"spinster" In the middle of the 19th century, this was a real concern for girls. The lives of these little artists are endlessly thought provoking. Selina's sampler is stitched in silk thread on linen and is a particularly fine piece. Her cross stitches are practically microscopic! The motifs include a very well done ... morebrick house. Most likely her family home, surrounded by evergreen trees, butterflies and deer. On either side of her name, there is a small swan and a large bird on a branch; above it is a crown and two cherubs with little, sweet hearts. At the very top, above the verse is a shepherd with his gun and two dogs. Was this her father? On either side of him is another large bird and equally large butterfly. Around the entire piece runs a flower and leaf vine. The verse reads: Soft and easy is thy cradle. Coarse and hard thy saviour lay. When his birth place was a stable. And his softest bed was hay. Was there nothing but a manger. Cursed sinners could afford. To receive the heavenly stranger. Did they thus affront their Lord. The piece measures 16.5" tall x 12.5" wide(without the frame) and 20" x 16" with the frame) There are a few small holes(shown in photos) but are backed with additional linen which hides them well. Antique American framed needlepoint sampler from 1759 18th Century
Wonderful old sampler. The sampler is dated 1759. I have no way to know if that's accurate but it's clearly a VERY old sampler as it's faded. It's hard to capture the color in something behind glass since I can't use flash but photo 1 is just about spot on. The rest of the photos are much more amber but they do show the detail better. I'm leaving this in the frame for this auction. I suppose if removing it and photographing the back is an issue AND the sampler doesn't sell I'll relist it taken out of the frame. However. Again, for this auction I am not taking it out. It's safer for transport in the frame as well. Early Victorian needlepoint of a spaniel standing in a landscape. There are buildings in the distance to the left and the spaniel has her head turned back, presumably looking at her mistress. The woolwork is very well preserved; the background is left unworked as was usually the case with these needlepoint dog portraits. I would date the sampler to the mid-19th century, circa 1840's-1850's. Quite large and heavy. The total framed size measures ~15" x 17.5" It is housed behind glass in a period, possibly original, rosewood veneer frame with narrow inner gilt liner. Winsome Antique Cross Stitch Hand Embroidered Sampler c. 1830 Wooden Frame Presented is an antique framed cross stitch sampler. This wonderful sampler features block letter and numbers and proudly bears the name of the stitcher: Hannah Sargent. Born November 12, 1816. and the message, Content and Peace Thy Dwelling Share. It is worked in tan, cream, and two shades of blue on a tan cloth. Some of the stitching matches the background and is hard to see in the photos. It has been framed in a nice wooden frame. The back of the frame reads. Hannah Sargent, sister of Charlette Sargent who married William Swett 1830. The frame and glass are in great condition. The paper on the back had ripped and had been taped back together a long time ago. There is a little staining on the sampler. Unusual Asian Pictorial Antique Needlework Sampler: 1834 by Elizabeth Moore
This incredibly unusual sampler was stitched out by Elizabeth Moore when she was just eleven years old in 1834. This would make her year of birth be 1823. As always. I am so curious as to what little Elizabeth was like. I am particularly intrigued with this piece because of its Asian theme and lacking in any religious verse. The pictorial nature of it is absolutely beautiful and the work is incredibly detailed with golden silk thread on extra fine linen. I did a little research on pictorial samplers and found this from the Metropolitan Museum of Art: A girl who was lucky enough to continue her education usually made a second embroidery at a ladies boarding school while she was in her adolescent years. This was usually a more decorative pictorial sampler or needlework picture. While less straightforwardly useful than marking samplers. Decorative ... moresamplers and needlework pictures also served an important function: they revealed the values of the girl and her family to potential suitors. The completed work was usually framed and hung in the parlor, proclaiming the maker’s obedience, patience, and skill. It also communicated that a girl's parents were wealthy enough to send their daughter to school and that the family valued the arts of refinement. The verses found on many samplers reinforced these messages, emphasizing the importance of female virtue, the value of education, and obedience to one's parents and to God. The acceptance of death and the remembrance of the dead, including the sampler maker herself, is another frequent theme. Girls usually signed their samplers, stitching their name, age, and the date the sampler was completed. These small bits of embroidered cloth are often all that remains to testify to the otherwise unrecorded lives of their makers. Reading this made me even more intrigued. Elizabeth. Records show she was born in Shropshire. The daughter of a farmer and butcher, Charles Shropshire. It is in good. Clean condition with some wear to the blue letters on the top part of the sampler. Colorful Antique Linen Sampler dated to 1887
This beautiful and colorful antique linen sampler was purchased from a dealer in San Anselmo. CA in the 1990's. The thread is a wool blend and it is most likely done in Berlin style. It measures roughly 22" x 23" and is dated to 1887. The stitching has been worn down and parts of the edges are damaged due to the original frame it was in and there is some slight water damage as you can see in the pictures. This appears to be a girl's first major project beyond her basic working samplers. It is mostly filled with alphabets but there are several picture motifs at the bottom that shows her ability.

Scarce antique bible verse sampler by Selina Wilkinson 1842 framed 19th
This antique sampler is somewhat unique in that it has a bible verse on it and shows the biblical reference. The sampler is done with red thread with green trim/outline. The sampler was done by Selina Wilkinson. It has the alphabet in 3 different sizes and styles and the bible verse Ecclesiastes 12:1. It is signed and dated Oct. 1842. The sampler itself is 8 ½ by 12 1/8 inches. It has gold matting behind it. The frame is 12 ¼ by 16 ½ inches. It is a period frame that likely dates to the same time as the sampler. The sampler has some small holes in various spots with most of the issues in the top left corner. There are a few veneer chips on the frame. Please see the pictures for reference.

1905 SAMPLER - Charming Antique Embroidered with Buttons
A sweet sampler done by someone named Sara in Nov. 1905 It is obvious by the style that Sara must have been a child. I love the three buttons on each side on the flowers. It looks like it is on linen. Slightly yellowed but really in very good condition. No stains or rips. It is securely framed in a simple green frame. And you will receive it that way, as I don’t want to try to separate it. I’ll leave that up to you. Up for your consideration is an wonderful estate sale attic find. This auction is for an lovely antique horse and buggy cross stitch sampler with a cross stitch poem. The poem in on the sampler says" Come in the Evening.Or Come in the Morning. Come When Expected or Come Without Warning. There is a date stitched into the sampler that says 1928. The cross stitch pattern around the perimeter of the sample is done in brown and green. The horse and buggy is done in black and the wording is blue. The fabric is a soft linen. This vintage/ antique sampler is in amazing condition but does have a couple of light brown spots in the upper right hand corner. This sampler does not appear to ever have been framed. I've placed the execution of the work as circa 1790 based upon the weave of the linen, the type of thread and the style of the work. In all my years of collecting I've never seen a piece like it. It is exceptional in every regard. The work is wonderfully raw and primitive and the Adam and Eve subject matter timeless and culturally important. Framed Size: 30" x 30" Work Size: 22" x 22" The piece is in very good condition overall and evidences one 1/4" area of cloth loss. One 1/16" area of loss and one 1/32" area of loss. The ... morelinen work surface is, with these minor exceptions, in superb condition. Two mirror image 4.5" x 6" areas of fold over/storage stain are decernable immediately to the left and right of the birds. The staining is light and, in my opinion, doesn't detract from the impact nor the value of the work. The stitch work is still vibrant and tight. The piece has been very carefully mounted and. Except for a 3.5" x 3.5" area, is pucker-free. The piece formerly resided in the collection of a wealthy Winter Park. Florida couple. I estimate the piece to have a wholesale value of $600. This is an UNFINISHED quilt top with no batting or backing fabric. It is a sampler quilt done with different blocks all make from coordinating vintage fabrics. It measures 71”X71” I am trying to describe everything as thoroughly as possible please email if you have any questions before bidding: Where this came from…My 98 year old grandmother passed away recently and our family is going through her things. She quilted for most of her life and we have stacks of finished quilts to keep in her memory. We have decided to list her unfinished projects. And unused fabric as well as some other items from her estate. The fabric is vintage and antique. To give you an idea how old the fabrics are. My 50+ year old sister and I remember having clothes made of a lot of the fabrics when we were young. My mother(now 71 years old) said she remembers having ... morematernity clothes made from some of the fabric as well. The last half of her life Grandma stayed rather close to home not venturing out much. As a result she did not purchase much fabric later in life so almost everything she had was vintage. My grandmother was not fond of animals and never smoked a day in her life so oddly enough I can guarantee the items are from an animal free smoke free home even though they are very old. Victorian Antique 1800's Punch Paper Sampler 'Thou art my Hope'. Anchor & Chain
This is an all original late 1800's antique Punch Paper Sampler. 23" X 10 1/2" Thou art my Hope' in colorful red to pink thread. Features anchor& chain. Green leaves, colorful flowers, blue wave type pattern. Looks like original frame 1" wide in fair to poor condition, missing some varnish on top and corners. Also original glass with some waves. Wooden back, new nails. There is some wear on the edge of the sampler from the nails, not very apparent from the front. Sampler is in nice condition. Some water spots and darkened from age, but still very colorful and stitching is in good condition. Selling as is, vintage, appears to be over 100 years old. Check pictures out for condition. This Auction is for A Victorian Era Needlepoint Sampler. Measures approx. 23 inches X 24 inches. Dated lower left corner. This needlepoint sampler is spectacular. Colors are still very bright and vibrant. It appears that this sampler was never blocked or displayed since it is not faded and it is not perfectly square. There is no doubt that the needlepoint was done with wool yarns. There are so many images that your eye wanders over and over and you still find things you missed the first time around. One side of the border has a straight line split that could be mended and one other small split on the other side. There are several places were there are missing stitches.worn from time.
