Up for auction is a wonderful old Sampler from my Father-in-Laws estate. Made by Margaret Wild age 12. In 1826. There is some wear at the top. I am unable to make out the saying. The rest is lovely with a castle, fence, trees, birds, flowers, and a wonderful flower border. The frame measures 26 L x 20 1/2 W outside and 21 3/4L x 16 1/2 W on the inside. It weighs 8 lbs without packing. There is a slight reflection of me taking the photos that looks like discoloration. But is my shadow. Please ask any questions before bidding. Pretty little marking Sampler dated 1898. Vibrant red stitching in 3 rows of alphabet. This is an English sampler with the name Maria Billon. Age 9. The overall size is 11 x 11, great small size. The sampler has been preserved on acid free board. The border is a zig-zag pattern that goes all the way around the sampler. Two birds and a basket are at the bottom. This would be a great sampler to add to your collection or is substantial enough to stand on it's own. It is a fantastic value.

Early Victorian Sampler- Dated 1840 Here we have for auction this delightful antique sampler. Done by a young girl called Mary Simcock and dated to 1840(the zero of the date is in a different thread, so whether she changed the date or finished it earlier than expected, we have no idea) The sampler is unframed and the original mounting and pins securing the fabric to the board back can be seen. It depicts a rural scene around harvest time, with a lady in a blue and red dress with a rake over her shoulder, with her crops in the field behind her and sheep at her feet- there is also a little church amongst the trees in the top left of the picture. The sampler is in wool, with the colours having survived very well, with the red and blue of her dress still bright, as well as the yellows of the crop, and the blues of the floral border also in good ... morecondition. 175 YR OLD EARLY ANTIQUE 18X19 SAMPLER DATED 1838 ~ HOUSE, ANIMALS, LADY AAFA
Here is a sweet and truly impressive embroidered sampler. It looks like it was done with silk thread on an open weave linen. It is signed in the needlework"Elizabeth Currin s Work- Aged 17 years- Wrought at Laxey Glen school septembher 11 1838" The designs include a delicate flowering vine border. A 4 line verse, baskets of flowers and a picture of a home and grounds, which are packed with many animals. There is a shepherd woman with a dog, sheep, deer, birds and peacocks~! There are some other mystery animals as well. And please find the tree with a bird stitched right in the middle of it. Elizabeth did not finish her sampler(notice how the green grass is not stitched in the pasture to the left of the walk) For whatever reason. She completed the animals but did not fill in the grass. This only adds to the folksiness of this 175 ... moreyear old early piece. The colors are mostly dark green. Brown, off white and hints of light blue, yellow, and pink. The sampler is framed with glass. Which is not of the same period of the sampler, but age appropriate looking. This sampler is in very good condition. With some light staining and wear. The only holes I can find are on the very edge, upper right side, as pictured. Also, there is a bit of dirt under the word"drowsy" in the verse. The frame is very solid, and has some light rubs on the corners. Framed size is 19x18.5x7/8 inches. The sampler itself is 16 3/8 x 15 7/8 inches. I describe each item to the best of my knowledge. Exquisite Antique c. 1852 Victorian Needlework Sampler
FREE SHIPPING ANYWHERE IN THE CONTINENTAL US! What an extraordinary find: this large needlework sampler came out of a house in Connecticut where there was a large collection of antiques samplers. This was. By far, the most magnificent. Measures a large 25" x 25" It is displayed in what appears to be the original antique wood frame with original glass. The sampler is loaded with symbols, all beautifully executed. Still very colorful. The pictures really don't do this sampler justice. The only real wear I see is to the upper right corner, which I have photographed. Also, the backing of the frame has been replaced with a taped piece of white cardboard, but of course that can always be properly finished and doesn't diminish the value of the sampler. There are no stains or obvious holes to speak of. If you see a dark spot, it ... moreis probably a reflection in the glass which occurred while I was taking photos. It is in amazing condition for its age and must have been prized for its stunning workmanship. Produced by Martha Wilkinson, aged 13, as stitched into the center of the sampler. The top frieze has two dogs framing five different types of potted flowers. The central potted flower has a red breasted bird perched a top and framed by two different style butterflies and two bees. A man holding his hat with a staff and woman flank the tree trunk amidst seven sheep. Two stylized trees are on each side with a squirrel on top of each. In an arc around the oak tree are more potted flowering plants and two geese or swans. The sampler has not been removed from the frame and has not been laundered or ironed. Fabric has yellowing and light stripes of beige discoloration most likely due to being mounted on board. Sampler has six pinhead or smaller holes/rub wear along and within 1/2" of the outside border of the image area. There are two less than 1/4" holes. This 11" X 18" framed sampler is protected by glass and the backing of the picture frame. There are our stains to the fabric which do not blot out the image. Merely change the background. The lowest one is about 2 1/2" square, the one above is about 2" square, and the highest one is approx, 1" square. The one on the right, is about 1" X 2" Other than the stains, the piece is in very good condition. There are no rips, and all the lettering is plainly visible even through the stains. The Sampler begins with Capital Letters( 2) of each letter, numbers to 14, followed by Capital Letters in Bold, and then small letters. There is a phrase which reads: We all fade as a leaf. This listing is for a sampler that is probably from the mid-1800's. Although it is not dated. I purchased it from an estate in New York in the early 2000's. It has subdued shades of gold, brown, green, and red and features floral designs as well as dogs, birds and crowns. I believe it is stitched in cotton on a linen fabric and it measures 9 x 10.5 framed. There are some holes and fraying of the fabric. This listing is for an antique sampler from the 1800's. The young lady who stitched it was Amanda E. Johnston and she was 12 years old. The date is not complete. But it is from the 1800's. The third number appears to be either a 3, a 5, or an 8. It is stitched in wool on either cotton or linen cloth. I have counted at least 5 different stitches and some of the stitching has been lost. It actually appears as though some may have been removed on purpose. As you can see from the photos, there is a blank space at the bottom. Not sure if she chose to leave it that way or just didn't finish her work. The colors are still vibrant. The fabric was hemmed on the top, bottom, and right side and the left side is a selvedge edge. Rare 18thc Antique SHIP & SAILORS Needlepoint Sampler Wool & Silk HugeGold Frame
Hello. This auction is for an antique needle work, in ornate gold gilt frame. The frame measures 83 cm wide by 90 cm tall. And is constructed of plaster over wood with what appears to be the original gilded finish. The frame is all original with old hooks and paper to the back. Much of which is torn, you can peek through to see the back of the wool work and the brightness of the colours. The front of the frame has just a few small areas of damage all of which I have photographed, I would say four areas are noticeable with small edges of plaster lost, there are a few other little areas which are dark and not so noticeable, but generally speaking the frame is in a wonderful solid clean condition for age. The raised ornate surround frames the glasses by around 14 cm. There is no damage to the glass it just requires a clean, and inside the needlepoint ... moreis in fabulous condition. This dates at least 19thc possibly 18thc please see pics. The picture shows three figures one appears to be a man in uniform possibly a Captain. He has a scale model ship next to him on a table with a red cloth. Before him is a gentleman holding his hat and his hand to his mouth and seated a boy, possibly in nautical uniforms, or provincial costumes. There certainly seems to be a ship team, any advice appreciated. The needlepoint is in excellent condition with no holes it appears to be a mixture of wool and silk. There are a variety of different kinds of stitches, generally cross stitch, and smaller scale cross stitch for the detail of the faces. Antique SAMPLER BOOK of Crocheted Pieces I am pleased to offer for consideration this wonderful antique'needlework sample' book. These cloth books were popular in the late 1800s to early 1900s. School girls learned necessary needlework skills and displayed their samples in these books. The sampler consists of 109 individual pieces on 14 pages. Each arranged& hand sewn to it's page(several blank'pages' at the end) Made of orange cotton fabric. The closed'book' measures about 12" square. Using both fine and heavier ecru cotton thread. The designs are for the most part unique, a few in colors such as blue. Pink and yellow. Some pieces show an intricate and delicate pattern while others are more basic. There are many interesting details which you will discover as you examine the contents. One particular sample ... morespells out"LOVE" another has hearts- some are doily shaped. Others square. Antique Sampler Framed in a custom antique wood frame. 10" x 10" Dated early 1800s Alphabet is written three times in different designs Two names are at the bottom. It says, Hannah Foster was born May 12th the year 1810 Nancy T Foster was born July 8th the year 1816" The lower case s looks like an f and from what I've read. And seen personally, this was common in the1800s. I've seen tombstones from the time period with the S looking like an F. Condition: Antique quality with slightly faded letters. Common for the time period. No major damage or tears. Check photos carefully. R eflection on the glass in the photos shows as a white-looking blotchy color. The first image is the most accurate as to color and quality. It is tacked to a board. With very small tacks, and framed in a custom-sized wood frame. Age of the frame ... moreis unknown. The back of frame can be replaced or the entire sampler can be reframed. The back looks like it had some tape over the edges. I've searched on(Ancestry dot com) to find these two children. Assuming they are sisters. I found birth certificates for these two girls with these exact birth-dates. Born in Warner. New Hampshire. Both girls have parents recorded as Joseph Foster& Hannah Foster of Warner. New Hampshire. They had two brothers. Maybe other siblings, David and Stephen. Parents. Joseph and Hannah were also born in New Hampshire in the late 1700s. I don't know how far back this family goes in the USA. I'm dating this sampler. Again from what I've read and researched, to early 1800s. F rom the fabric used and the colors of the threads. I've had this sampler since the 1970s. But at the time could not find a history on the girls. It's only recently with Ancestry that a match was made. Someone framed this years ago. Antique embroidery sampler from 1842. Completed by Mable Moor of Throphill. Northumberland aged 10 years. I have carefully removed it from its frame which was damaged. The label on the back indicates it was framed at one time in Nairobi but it has made its way back to Northumberland. In is in good condition with no holes or fabric damage. Just some minor wear on some letter where the odd stitch may be missing. Some of the colours will have changed in the last 171 years and the background cloth has dark and light areas. Size is approx. 36 cm by 24 cm. Buyer pays postage.
