Revolutionary War Family Bible/Brackett/Pickering/NH
This volume 2 bible belonged to relatives. of Dr. Joshua Bracket who was the first president of the New Hampshire medical society and relatives of Timothy Pickering who was quartermaster during the revolutionary war. Many genealogical entries up to around 1900. perhaps 30 or so maybe. many newspaper articles included. some of the entries were old enough to have went to revolutionary war gatherings.Oldest person entry was a person who died in 1802 who was 78 years old. I believe the first owner of this bible either was Alice Pickering(1757-1838) or the the daughter of Alice Pickering(Martha) I believe she(Martha) wrote the oldest entries in this bible. People who were perhaps born in the 1700s etc. Martha P. Brackett who was born in 1785 and died in 1856. John and Thomas Pickering were brothers and were born in New Hampshire I believe. John ... morein 1637 and Thomas a few years later. They were known for being super strong. Thomas was slightly stronger. Thomas fought off two Englishmen who wanted to conscript him into the English navy by force. John was a captain in the military. The grandson of Captain John was Deacon Timothy Pickering who was married to Mary Wingate. Together they bore Colonel Timothy Pickering the famous revolutionary rebellion leader who commanded a regiment and later became quartermaster general. He fought at the battle of Concord and Lexington in 1775. John and Thomas had 4 or 5 sisters. One of these sisters married a Brackett. Thus the whole love story of the Bracketts and Pickerings began. Thomas Pickering had many sons and daughters. His third son was also named Thomas.1703-1782) This son Thomas' first wife was Mary Downing The son Thomas' second wife was Molly Javorin. Son Thomas and Mary Downing bore Nicholas Pickering. Nickholas Pickering and Hannah Bickford then bore the grandson of the son Thomas Pickering. His name also was Thomas Pickering. This is a 1977 Wilton Storybook cake pan. Complete with the full color original insert and the decorating instructions pamphlet. The pan has a couple of minor dents in the bottom, and some scratches on the bottom from storage with other pans, but they won't affect your cake. This is the one cake mix size book pan. The pan is dated copyright 1977 but the insert is dated 1987. The insert has a small rip at the bottom edge, and a couple of faint spots; it gives ideas for different cakes made using this pan: Storybook, Graduation, Baby Shower, Anniversary. ANTIQUE VINTAGE large brass/metal family Bible book stand / easle pulpit NICE!!
This is a beautiful piece. Large brass Bible stand. Surface of platform measures 13 3/4" wide X 12" high(big enough for a large family Bible) Lip on bottom of platform to support Bible is 1 3/4" Unit stands 5" high with platform folded down. Platform can be placed in 10 height positions(from flat to highest position) This piece had some damage to it and was reconditioned. If you look at the 2nd and 3rd pictures you'll see a'bend' in it. It was straightened as much as possible without causing any structural damage. There was a spot where it needed to be re-soldered under the book platform. The brass base had a lot of tarnish on it so it was cleaned and painted with"Metallic Classic Bronze"gives a great antique appearance and matches the original brass of the book platform quite well. When you're displaying it with a Bible on it and looking at the front. The damage I mentioned can hardly be noticed. Antique Catholic Family Bible 1800's
Very old Catholic Bible.I have no idea of it's age.But I believe it is from at least the mid-1800's. On the first page there is a list of the Bishops and Arch- bishops that approved the edition.I Googled several of the names and their terms were between 1830's and 1850's.The Bible has a page of Births,deaths,and marriages.The name of the family listed is Willis. Also,in the back,there is a place for pictures. This Bible is in rough shape and needs lots of repair.It also smells of smoke.It was probably in a parlor at some time where people smoked a lot.The first several pages are brittle and very worn around the edges(PIC 7)There may be a cover page missing. Here's a family Bible dated 1814. Measures 10 7/8" tall X 9" wide and 3 1/4" thick. Has 5 raised bands on spine. I'd say it's in good to very good condition considering it's 200 years old. Small pieces from top and bottom of spine worn off(1st picture) Crack in leather down middle of spine. Corners of both covers rubbed. Separation shown in 8th picture(this is in line with the external crack in spine) I'm thinking there was a previous repair.if so. It was done well as the Bible opens and closes easily with no looseness. Pages have typical foxing and discoloring for a 200 year old Bible but still very legible. The family pages have been removed. The title page has'family record page 677' hand written on the top but again, they've been removed. All scripture pages, Apocrypha and Concordance are ... morein tact. It is a rare color illustration by James Clark Waite of a mother. Father and baby. Mom is reading the bible outloud. A cat watches. Lovely religious scene. The page measures approximately 21.75 x 15.5 inches(55 x 39cm) It has two folds. Where it was bound into the original journal over 100 years ago. The fold lines are clean without any darkening, but it is starting to splt where they meet(so I advise securing it on the back with archival tape prior to framing) The back of this print is blank. So it was probably a"special supplement" that was added to the weekly journals. These supplements tend to be much rarer. The page is in excellent condition for its age. Back then. The paper ... morewas high quality and the print and illustrations are crisp. Based on the date, it is probably the rotogravure printing technique. This is NOT a recent copy or modern reproduction. This Holy Bible is the most illustrated Bible I have ever seen. It is an over-size at approx. 8" x 12" and almost 3" thick. It weighs almost 6 pounds! It does have some condition issues with the front cover(see photos) but the rest of the Bible is in really good shape for a 65 year old Bible. It does have on about page 3 a"Presented to" and that is filled in. It looks like in Christmas of 1953. That a husband gave this to his wife. I really never buy any type of a book at estate sales-But this Bible caught my eye and I planned on using it myself or I would really would not have bought it and paid as much as I did. I looked through it and could not believe the amount of pictures and illustrations. Once I got it home and looked at it a little more carefully-I see that it is a Catholic Bible. Contains dozens of plates throughout, some quite beautifully engraved, bound in original stamped leather boards; the spine with large raised bands and the original title label. Boards still attached although split externally at the joints exposing the cords. Family info on the rear EP and pastedown for the Taylor and Hyde family in the mid 1800s. Pages with some stains, also a few leaves throughout with chips, but overall decent. Includes Apocrypha as well as Psalms of David at the rear. Very rare pulpit Bible/imprint not often seen for sale. Here's an antique Pictorial Family Bible. Blank family pages. Couldn't find a print or copyright date but guessing late 1800's or very early 1900's. Really looks great! Measures 12 1/4" tall X 10" wide and 2 1/2" thick. Many beautiful illustrations. Some in color. Covers. Spine and hinges are solid, hinges good. Spine had started to separate and a previous repair was made with what looks like clear epoxy(look at last picture) Still a very nice Bible and opens and closes easily. Great piece at a great price. A. J. Holman& Company. FAMILY HOLY BIBLE- SELF PRONOUNCING EDITION 1935 Holman Editions were first published in 1872. The firm was established that year by three former senior employees of the Harding publishing house: Andrew Jackson Holman. Major J. Parker Martin, and master bookbinder George Lare. Six years later, William Harding sold off the Harding Bible and photo album division to the Holman firm. A. J. Holman produced dozens of Bible editions during almost nine decades as an independent publishing house. The firm was purchased in 1961 by another Philadelphia publisher. J. B. Lippincott, then re-sold in 1978 and moved to Tennessee. In 1993, the Holman Bible Company was acquired by Broadman Press to form Broadman& Holman, which continues to publish King James Bibles as well as more modern English and Spanish Bible translations.
