Books about the history of the Papacy

The Vatican and the papacy have a grand history and there are several books that discuss this rich history. The Papacy is more than two thousand years old. Since the establishment of the papacy, numerous changes and reforms have been made in it and several struggles were initiated to protect its position and mandate. For instance, the power of papacy and the way that the Roman Catholic Church's affairs are handled have been changed several times until current times. The stories on how these events took place are well and comprehensively discussed in the papal history books.

Generally, these books discuss the history of the papacy and give extensive explanations on the history of papacy. They state the struggles, conflicts, conventions and councils that were formed to establish the status of the papacy, the opposition that each papacy encountered. They also describe how the Catholic Constitution was formed and how the papacy has managed to unite all the Catholics across the world. Additionally, the books outline the various popes that have reigned ever since papacy was formed, their life histories, achievements and failures, death and burial.

There are thousands of books on the subject of  the history of the papacy. The following are just a few examples: "Absolute Monarchs, A History of the Papacy", by John Julius Norwich; "Saints and Sinners, A History of the Popes, Third Edition "by Eamon Duffy; "A History of the Popes, From Peter to the Present by John W.; Vicars of Christ, A History of the Popes" by Charles Coulombe; "History of the Catholic Church, From the Apostolic Age to the Third Millenium "by James Hitchcock; "The Pope’s Legion, The Multinational Fighting Force that Defended the Vatican" by Charles A. Coulombe; "Original Papal Documents in England and Wales from the Accession of Pope Innocent III to the Death of Pope Benedict XI (1198-1304) by Jane E. Sayers; The Papal Monarchy, The Western Church from 1050 to 1250) "by Colin Morris; "The Book of the Popes (Liber Pontificalis)" by Louise Ropes Loomis; "Italy and the Vatican at War "by S. William Halperin; "The Papacy and World Affairs as Reflected in the Secularization of Politics "by Carl Conrad Eckhardt; and "A Short History of the Papacy in the Middle Ages by Walter "Ullmann. Of course, there are many more books and we cannot list them all here.

These books are great sources of information about the Catholic Church and the Papacy; from the time it all began to its current status. They have been authored by prominent people who have extensive comprehensive knowledge of the history of the Catholic Church. Some popes have also written books that discuss the history of the papacy from their own insightful perspective.

The books are easily available and can be purchased online. Therefore if you want to read about the rich history of the papacy and the Catholic Church in general, you can make your order at any time over the internet and have an original copy of the book of your choice delivered to you.
